Patience paid off in the end - in the last sequence Idom just kept spamming fireball in the neutral but Kawano had all the space to just walk back/not engage and stay safe. Yes it's abusable in the neutral but I wonder how that round would have ended if Idom just walked forward more instead.
When its last round and last match for EVERYTHING, everybody gets nervous, including Idom. Both were playing it safe, but time ran out on Idom's trigger so the tides turned. Could Idom play aggro to win? Maybe, but one counter poke from Kawano and it will be over, pointless what-ifs.

@@tamim3319 Infiltration would’ve made all these players look free. Also Fchamp would’ve did great as well. Too bad the FGC bann the best players
@@kelvin303 Ya Infiltration looked good before covid, he had few years where he was very weak due to bad characters.
@@tamim3319 Infiltration can play almost any character and destroy the competition. What’s even more awesome about him is he plays low tier characters, and shows everyone he can still dominate
HOLY SHIT!!! Every match at top 8 could have been the Grand Finals. Idom is a beast, but Kawano is also one. Amazing!
That was a monster run IDOM. Great SFV at EVO
Watching the grand final almost make my heart skip a beat and it all went down into the final round. I didnt think kawano can handle idom but he did made adjustment after reset. Well done kawano... He deserve to be a new evo champ.
Daigo's sets are always so tense!
Wow what a clutch grand final. Idom was playing scary good the whole bracket, just oppression. Have to admit that was the best sfv tournament I've seen since like season 1 evo.
That man Idom had me on the edge of my seat the whole time 👑
Idom did hella good 😭😭😭 it was intense
He got greedy 🙄 he could have provided way more better pressure than that
@@skipfuego6339 you definitely knew what idom should have done to beat the evo champ
@Skip Fuego armchair gamer lol
Amazing...iDom smashed it. Is definitely a winner in my books! 👊🏾
Okay, so how do you block cross-ups with projectiles? @1:00:48 Are you supposed to hold away from the side the opponent is on, or away from the side the projectile is hitting you? On the last hit of the projectile, from the blocking animation, he was holding left (juri is facing the orb to the right), but Seth was to the left of him.
Man, watching Kawano win it all was deeply satisfying. Especially that grand final. What a boss.
I love how ALL matches in street fighter are exiting. The lower the skill gap is between both players, the more exciting it gets. Same thing with 2 noobs or 2 daigos
Great tourney. Idom was amazing and I thought Gochikun was really impressive, his play style is amazing. Kuwano great persistence, not easy to keep your cool when you are getting rolled like that
That was such a great top 8, and a fucking fantastic Grand Finals! Had my on the edge of my seat. Great way to close out SFV, though apparently it's coming to EVO Japan next year as well.
Daigo, tokido are still in the elite class in my book!
I was rooting for Kawano all along. I like Idom, but Kawano deserved to win all along.
Crowd was dick riding idom too much
No deserving championship wins just earning them
The level of all the players is extremely high, just a pleasure to watch!
Diago at 41 still is the shit. You can tell he doing for the love because he’s already a legend and imo the goat
Without a doubt, consistency is why he’s one of the goats not only in sf but fighting games in general.
People saying free as if Idom didn't just go beat Japan's top of the top in back to back games in Loser's bracket gassing him. Props to everyone who competed and congratulations to Kawano for not succumbing under the pressure of Idom's streak!
its laura, they practically didnt play the game they could only guess lmao
@Jim Crawford Y’all focus too much over the “Region vs Region”, NA vs JP vs EU, thing in the FGC, instead of just respecting a player for who he is instead of where he’s from. I don’t really care about that since I don’t live in any of the high profile FGC country.
@@untitled.18 People will do anything to cope with an underdog slaughtering their favorites. Ignore the haters and support the gamers doing their best to bring us this amazing entertainment. This top 8 was solid, start to finish.
Idom is a fucking legend. I have cared very little about SF5 over the last few years but this top 8 was one of the absolute best top 8s I've ever seen regardless of game. Idom's run was absurd, and ti make it final set, final round and a close one at that was amazing.
i love seeing the crowd this into street fighter again. SFV was looking dead for a bit, but evo is always so hype
Fun seeing someone really rock hard with Laura for once
That EVO Finals was intense! Looks like Kawano is the new end boss.
Nah Infiltration would’ve made him look free. Infiltration is the GOAT of SFV FGC.
Kawano deserves the win. Only his Kolin could stop IDOM's rampagre
I look fighting games since day 0.
Idom’s Laura still being IMPRESSIVE
2:20:35
UltraDavid, thank you so much. Once you guys started talking about bringing the power of the weird a few minutes earlier, I was wondering: "Is...one of these guys a Dune fan? Am I going to hear a joke? Please, let one of these two be a Dune fan...it's RIGHT THERE"
BOOM baby
James Chen is a treasure. This was a great evo top 8. I haven't played fighting games in over a year due to my best friend and fighting game partner dying in 2021. I'm happy that this has made me feel like I can start playing again.
Hey I’m sorry to hear that man
Get back in there man! Your friend would want it that way.
@@kayjay5414 I actually played CVS2 on dreamcast with a work friend today. I got goosebumps, I had a great time. Thank you.
My buddy is the loud guy screaming when IDOM holds the stick up 🤣
Boy! Kawano is very tough!
No one really troubled him in this competition until gachikun
Ya Gachikun tried to play footsie with him first 2 games and lost hard. Then he went yolo jumpy mode and it worked well.
Smug almost beat him to make top 8 it was mad surprising
Well Played Kawano! What a clutch! 👏
IDom is the MVP for giving us heart attacks! 😌
Couldn't have asked for a better way to end SFV's last EVO! ❤
But Kawano kicked his ass even with all the dick riders in the crowd
2023
still stunned by this match
proper sending off for SFV
These two together commentating are hilarious (Dave and James)! Their coverage of the Idom fights are 👌🏽 had me cracking up at times! 🤣 so technically on point too with what they see
fantastic showing
Kawana has a beautifully played Kolin! That's what I like to see.
What an amazing send off to an era!
Jesus, had to watch it again. Kawano kept his fundamentals in check under the pressure so well. iDom really almost did it aswell, a little too short on the command grabs but I know he wanted the blender guess for game situation. respect to both players and Top 8 in general. What a great Evo for the coming to an end SFV and seeing the OGs still placing Top 16 with new faces representing.
Not even playing this Evo has too much amazingness to put in 1 comment. I LOVE this stuff
Insane how Gatcha jumped off the wall to dodge a flash kick
43:54 it’s kinda scary how in sync these players are at the top level. They are literally on one wave length of consciousness lol. Even when they fix their masks… it’s crazy.
Some sick matches! Idom was differently taking names with that rushdown
Need a meme with him/ Laura on a steam roller
IDOM vs DIAGO was SF personified!!!!!!! WHAT AN EXCELLENT MATCH!!!
That was AMAZING
iDom was the mvp of this top 8
Indeed!
100% agree. Kawano was amazing, but Idom put his heart and soul into making it to the finals. He had so many greats to go through to get there.
he cant be mvp if he lost at the end.
That's true!めちゃワクワクさせられた〜!
pc版での日本勢との対戦が見たくてしょうがないよ!
He good, but Kawano better
That was truly amazing ! The finals !
My friend Doug REALLY enjoyed this.
Great tournament, very exciting to watch. What a way to end it of. GGs
Amazing Top 8
あまりに衝撃的な結末に身体が脱力して手に力が入らない笑
最後まで信じていてよかった。ありがとうカワノ。
KAWANO IS OUR HERO
1:44:33 why oil fuckin doesn't get rid of his controller by himself and order it to Tokido? I can't understand.
One of the BEST EVO final! 2022!
GJ all I enjoy it!
Shout out to Tokedooo!
Amazing event what a definitive sendoff to Street Fighter 5 and now it is time to pass the torch to Street Fighter 6
I see that champions periodically breath onto their hand. I'm about to become unstoppable at Street Fighter.
Hello. Could someone please tell me the brand and model of the hitbox pad that tokido was using in this match. The blue one.
Sick grand finales and juri looks 10/10
Did anyone take note of what happened at the end in the match with Idom and Kawano and how insane that was? the fact that Kawano didn’t have trigger and still avoided getting put in block stun to build it but because he caught two crush counters and then a vskill combo he managed to build the meter perfectly to close it out….I can’t believe what I just saw
40:09 what are these arcade sticks?
They are called hitboxes.
@@zlosxluk Thanks... It seems kinda weird too play on these things, almost like on a keyboard. But I guess it's a matter of being used to it...
The nerves really started to hit Idom pretty hard on that last round.
Excelentes juegos, la final muy dramática, y el campeón sin duda se lo merecía. GRACIAS POR TANTAS EMOCIONES
45:40 it was at that moment he F’d up 😂
Man... I love seeing James Chen again, commentating EVO is never the same without him
This was just fan-damn-tastic🙌🏽🙌🏽
Great to watch that much passion! Great games guys 👍
Anyone know what is the HITBOX using by Tokido?
So wats the theme music dat played??? Felt motivated listenin ta it
Odd question but does anyone happen to know where can I find a hat like Oil King's (red bull)? Can't seem to find it anywhere...
