Proud Raccoon mom here: raccoons aren't weird! My horde of weaponized cuteness guard me and my outdoor kitties from other pests. They eat all the ticks, chase wild aggressive dogs away when they try to run at me or my kitties, and rob my pockets for treats when I'm outside. They're lovable and sweet! They also no longer terrorize my neighbors by tearing open garbage bags or tipping their trash bins over. They all know I feed them so they leave everyone else alone. Bonus: I get a fresh batch of kits every year in the late spring! They look like Tribbles from star trek, and even kind of sound like them too!

This video reminded me of "my window granny". I sort of miss her now. She was 85 when I moved next to her and she startled me countless times when I randomly saw her behind my window, talking to my cats and amusing them. She was living alone and I think she made up any excuse to come and have a small chat with me and she even ran outside without shoes when I was walking my senior cat outside. Rest in peace, window granny. Somehow I even miss her from time to time.

I'm the crazy neighbor too! I was homeschooled but during my teen years i suffered extreme medical problems, esp mentally, so I had to temporarily put school on hold for a few years. I found running gave me some pain relief from the adrenaline & it cleared my mind briefly, giving me a sense of semi sanity. We lived in a bad neighborhood, though, so I wasn't supposed to leave the backyard. Hence I would spend most of every day running circles around our tiny backyard. It created a dirt track about an inch deep. I was extremely shy, so I would run away whenever a neighbor was out. Just this teenage girl spending all day, every day, walking or running in a small circle.
Briefly, though, the house with 11 young kids & no adults all summer topped me. No idea how that happened or where they disappeared to.

My dad was that guy who bitched about people parking on the street in front of his house. He lived on a cul-de-sac where his house had a very small street presence in front, enough for his driveway width and grass the width of a small car. A neighbor with a small car always parked there, and he did nothing but complain about it every time we visited. He had a long driveway, plus both of his cars always fit in the garage. So it was never a parking issue for him or his visitors. It just pissed him off. I tried as gently as possible to convince him to the fact that it was public property, and anyone can park in the street in front of his house whether he likes it or not. FWIW, I also live on a cul-de-sac. The shape of my property gives me a very large street presence in front of my house, enough for 4 or 5 cars to park there. People are always parking in front of my house. But I realize it is most certainly public property and there's nothing I can do about it even if I wanted to.

My former neighbor was a diagnosed schitzophrenic. She would set fires, when she was off her meds. After one of her fire setting episodes, she barricaded herself in her house. Initially, they were going to call the SWAT team out While waiting for SWAT to show, she stood in front of her big picture window and flash her boobs at the cops and fire dept. ( She was in her 50's at the time) Eww.

Right, it was new years eve, we lived in a house in the countryside, and we were going to have a fairly large fireworks display, and party with live music. We let the three other houses nearby, and our next-door neighbour know too. We pushed letters through the door, knocked if they didn't answer, so they were all aware. Next door neighbour gives us a call, telling us it's ok to do the fireworks. Weird, considering we weren't asking permission, but we thanked her, and went along with it. Cut to the night, we're about to launch the fireworks when the fire brigade turn up at OUR house. They'd got a call from the next door neighbour of a large fire. Few months after, she started pouring water through the walls we shared, when she knew we were going to sell the house. Those aren't even the worst things she did.

Lived on top of a guy, with a round stair connectiog to both our front doors (basically two identical apartments stacked one on top of the other into a house) which lead onto a plateau of tile stones, and then came the gravel parking spaces (The area surrounded by other houses, so we share the gravel patch in the middle for parking). For obvious reasons, our bikes shouldn't be in the gravel, as there is almost only space to park cars and for everyone to back out and get going. Our downstairs neighbour who owned the plauteau, refused to let us park our bies, despite him ony using a small portion of it for a surfboard... He never once moved it, much less used it, and there was plenty of space for our bikes, plus whatever he'd want to use the plateau for. We ended up beefing for a while, and he put up damn signs connected by rope, with big fat spraypainted letters ''STOP, ONLY FOR THE GROUND FLOOR!'' At first i laughed, thinking he'd have to go under the rope if he wanted to use his space, but then realised... He doesn't use the space... Bro put up a physical barrier, for empty space he didnt even need or use..... He also complained when we put out bikes in the shared basement front room. He was truly unpleaseable

I'm definetly the crazy neighbour as I'm a single woman living in the countryside in an over 300 year old cottage with no running water and no car. On top of that, when I moved here I had a whole team of huskies that I of course had lengthy conversations with and even made up their replies.
Then the neighbours rarely see me, so I do wonder what rumours they are making up about me.

My family still owns the house my great grandma bought when she came to the States. The neighbors have been there for a long time. The husband to our left was insane. As a kid i remember him shirtless in the streets with an axe(? Cant remember) yelling at my mom. They argued a lot. He eventually had a heart attack and lived in a home after that

He didn't become the crazy neighbor, he was the crazy neighbor when I moved in. I've lived at my place over 3 years, live in the middle of nowhere (very rural) Kral (Crazy Karl I call him) is my closest neighbor (about a 2 miles down from my place). He's a functioning alcoholic (always drunk when I see him) is paranoid, believes in many conspiracy theories (especially about gov) has a lot of guns, and doesn't like strangers. Took me 2 years to get on friendly terms with him (usually by buying him beer)
He actually helped me clean up my pond (can see in one of my older shorts) good guy... so long as you don't bother him. No I'm not gonna record or take a pic.. he doesn't like that

I dont usually post my stories in the comments but i feel like this one needs sharing (i laugh agout this now, so feel free to laugh). I am the crazy neighbour. In sep 2019, i was 13 and was struggling heavily with my mental health. I obviously live at home with my parents, and we where doing everything we could to keep me out of hospital with help from my psychiatrist. I had been having a psychotic episode for about 2 weeks, and genuinely believed the zodiac killer had trackers on all my clothes, was stalking me from a row of houses behind my house (that doesnt exist, my house backs onto a field), and had cameras strapped to pigeons to stalk me. One night it got exceptionally bad and my parents had to ring an ambulance, who had to get police out first becauee of how "erratic" i was being. And by erratic, they mean i was sat on the sofa, deadass naked thinking the thermometer was a gun (its one of them laser thermometers) and saying "pew pew, im gonna fucking get him". I heard the sirens from the police pulling up and my dad go to the door. I bolt to the front door with my dad and the thermometer and dart out the house screaming "hes after me, hes found me, my parents set me up, someone help me". Please remember i am fully naked. FULLY. I had my left sock on and that was it. I get decked by 4 police officers after about 2 minutes of them chasing me. I ended up grazed and bruised to hell and back, but they where really nice about it, and i understand now why they had to do it, as i was also heading for a main road and a bridge. I ended up sectioned for about 3 almost 4 month, and came home with a diagnosis of bipolar 2 and a bunch of new meds (they REALLY help me though). A bunch of my neighbours came to see me as we live on a street where eveyone knows everyone, and a lot of odd/innapropriate/out of pocket jokes where made. They are all lovely people though
Most recently (March 2023), i was once again in a psychotic/manic episode and thought that parasites where living in our bins, sneaking into our house at night and infesting me and thats why im disabled (its not, i had a genetic screening in 2020 and got a diagnosis). In my genius brain, the only way to "kill off" these parasites was to set the bins on fire to kill them all. So 2 am rolls around, i have a couple lighters, some paper and a bunch of boxes of matches i had been buying the last couple of days. I sneak outside. Get all 4 wheelie bins in the middle of the street (i live on a cul-de-sac) and set them all on fire. Luckily one of my neighbours comes home from a night out before too much damage was done. That time, luckily, i was fully clothed

Woof, I have an interesting story here, in around august to December 2022 we had a Hawaiian family move in right next door to our apartment, ( context we live on the bottom left apartment, they lived on the bottom right, two neighbors on the second story above. ) they were… questionable at best. I think the family consisted of a mother and father, I think 3ish kids? And a bulldog looking dog, not sure exactly. And I think they liked to have other family come and stay for weeks at a time. The problem is, these apartments really are not that big. These only have two bedrooms one bathroom, and whenever these people left there door open we could see that there were bunkbeds set up literally in the entryway by the door due to the lack of space. Also a commonly “who cares” rule but a rule nonetheless, your not supposed to have pets, yet they came in with a bulldog? Ok. That was just the start of their reign of terror. They would leave out trash or completely random scraps in front of their doorstep breaching into ours, their apartment stank to high hell, the dog would randomly get out and start walking around our patios and shitting on them, kid you not we have an actual picture of the dog mid shit on our patio, the kids would play what I can assume is either catch or baseball practice or both, right outside our apartment back doors in a small grassy area that’s maybe 5 feet wide, when there was a huge open area fully suitable for any ball games readily available to anyone to use-still persisted on doing this right behind our glass backdoors and windows, would ride dirt bikes in laps around our apartment building or the point of their being literal dirt tracks in the ground after a while in a circle, the kids would also always wave to us through our back windows EVERY, FUCKING, TIME, they went by, leaving us no privacy, which drove us fucking crazy all summer long, they would host what i would describe as a parking lot family barbecue and car repair session, where the whole family or more would sit out in the crowded parking lot fixing cars while breaking out chairs and eating, every Saturday or Sunday this happened, can’t remember which day, and they had 4 different cars in the again, very crowded space leading the complex to but in a 2 car rule, which is still present to this day and only applies to the people they decide count for some reason, the final straw was when one of the kids started yanking on the bolts to my fathers classic bronco that is VERY fucking rare and expensive to fix, he and I saw that at the same time looking out a window together, he basically flung the window hard enough to almost break it, yelled “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING GET THE FUCK OFF OF THERE” or some variation of that, bolted out the door fast enough to completely knock me on my ass while running, and when he caught up to the kid he lied and said he didn’t do anything literally seconds after doing it and getting yelled at, turns out this family basically dine and dashed out one night in December when I was gone on vacation but my dad was still home, just packed their shit and booked it at 12am without saying a word, WOW

My family lived in an area that was "government housing." It was condo apartments. There was everything from robbery, vandalism, drug labs, and, of course murders (drug related). The police hardly patrolled our area, but they were aware of how crime-ridden the area actually was. 23 years living there, the amount of trauma from it all still haunts me almost 4 years later.

Downstairs neighbor was noisy, but nothing I could consider excessive. Then my mom moved out, leaving just my sister and I.... And hell started. Throwing of stuff, banging, Complaints of us WALKING and WHISPERING at night. (he told the landlord we we banging and screaming at 2 am). Then there was insane screaming at his place. We called the cops for a wellness check and they told us that he was "playing cards with the dog". Neighbor doesn't have a dog.....
    Then we moved.
I then saw that maybe while completely ridiculous, that previous neighbor wasn't purely insane. Man in the building next to our had two dogs he would let bark outside for long amounts of time. I saw him often raking the gravel and then using bed frame pieces he stuck into the ground as fence. He always had a random flag hanging at his balcony. If I came outside while he was too, he would come to the bottom of my stairs with his cigarette and start talking to me unprompted. In two sentences, he had started with antivaxx and jesus BS. He called me out once cuz he said he thought the building was on fire. There was no fire at all, I ask why he thinks that. "there's a lot of moving light". I ask if it is my sister's rainbow LED lightbulb outside, just under my stairs. Took him a minute..... Worst was all the random fireworks and that one time where he put fake police tape around his yard and kept mumbling something about a body. Errr, nope.
I'm glad he's gone now... Well, I knew when he left, because instead of moving out, he started around 7am to throw all his furniture down from his second floor apartment.......

Living in the same rented neighbourhood for nearly 20 years gives you a few winners.
1: Single mother, kleptomaniac son. Would regularly steal other kids' bikes and leave them in OUR back garden. Mum gave him hell every time.
2: DV couple, heavily autistic son prone to meltdowns. I'm not joking when I say my mother said the kid reminded her of Jeffrey Dahmer (to the point she never remembered his name - always called him Jeffrey). Got evicted for rent fraud, still kept a key hidden from the landlord - until we (accidentally) snitched on them without knowing about it.
3: Guy who leaves his Christmas lights up all year around, is probably some kind of user. Nobody calls him out on it because he's the go-to scrap removal guy in the neighbourhood, also he runs the community 'swap shop' food store.
4: I am also the crazy neighbour. Quiet guy, don't talk much, shout a lot on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and I'm a small hoarder.

My dad pulled the ugly pole out of the ground and I believe he was going to replace it with a clean looking one. Next day our neighbor came over and was yelling at my mom at the door because he "buried his dog there" like ??? sir. It was right next to the road too. So my dad put it back and it's still there 10 years later.

Preface : this isn't a "woe is me" post. I know what I did to put myself here, and while I'm sorry, I don't deserve or want sympathy. Nobody *owes* me a chance to make things different. It's not that kind of post and I'm not that kind of person.
I feel so bad about Janet because, like... I know I'm *that* neighbor. I'm just so lonely in my community and like... my entire family found a reason to duck spending holidays with me. I absolutely get why. I'm not going to pretend I've been a good sister, friend, or daughter... it's just... really lonely. 36 is too young to have nobody left who wants to see you on Christmas. I have enough self control to not peep or barge in on people who are trying to be alone, but I can understand, respect, and validate that maddening lust for human contact that drives someone to do this.
