    Norway is an excellent choice. They have a lot of beautiful issues. Good advice Chris. Collect what you want and how you want. I get as much joy out of a stamp with little or no value as I do from a stamp with significant value. Perhaps even more joy from it.

    • @chrislovesstamps

      Hi Jeff. I totally agree with you. Norway has beautiful stamps. And it seems so obvious 'collect what you like', but when I was on 'that' forum, it wasn't too obvious and I felt the divide between those that love stamps and the elitists. That inspired this series. It feels it is all so obvious, but thought that if (new) collectors are experiencing this negativity, then we need to make ourselves heard and share information that seems simple.. Thanks for the comment!

    Nice! Norway is in the top 5 of countries I collect. And I'm doing it on a budget too. I agree with you Chris, there is lots of fun that can be had with stamps with little money going out. $10 - $20 (CAD) per month is pretty much what I do, although I tend to save up for a few months and then splurge and spend $50 at a show or buy a larger lot. A large packet of Norway (say, 500 different) would use up several month's of your budget but you'd have a fairly robust starter collection.
    I'm already looking forward to next month's continuation of this series. Can't wait to see how you build out your collection. 💖

      Hi Mark. Nice that Norway is in your top 5 countries. Do you collect newer stamps too? It is so nice to hear how you collect, that you sometimes save up too. The reactions on my videos are so warm, so different to other places on the internet. Thanks you for watching, commenting and looking forward to the next episode. I am looking forward to it too. It is in a sense a very concrete path, but also unknown in what I find.

    What a great idea for a new series Chris - looking forward to seeing how you develop your beautiful budget Norway collection! I collect world stamps and there is so much scope for spending many many enjoyable hours without needing to spend very much. I get inexpensive box lots of disorganized material from my local shop and there are often envelopes of nice older stamps, stamps on paper that can be soaked, old stock books that can be repaired, cleaned up and re-used, old stock pages, even occasionally a nice stamp album.

    • @chrislovesstamps

      Hi. Thank you for you comment and compliment. That local shop sounds like heaven to me, that you get so much fun stuff from there. Sometimes going specifically after spend you are missing is nice, but not exactly knowing what to find when you 'just' purchase a stock book for example is really exciting too.

    • @voneschenbachmusic

      @@chrislovesstamps Agreed! I keep thinking I will start purchasing specific items to fill missing items but am still finding so much new to me material. Also, not having to pay for shipping for bulky stuff is a huge benefit if the local shop has this kind of material.

    Chris, this is such a great idea. Looking forward to the next video. I also set myself a budget. At the moment I try to limit it to $50.00 Canadian per month. Being a bit of a dinosaur I do not have that type of cell phone to be able to use the stamp identifier app. I am fortunate that our local small library has the whole set of 2023 Scott catalogues that I can borrow. I then photocopy the pages that I need. I saved money by purchasing my binders at the local thrift shop and only cost $0.50 each. I try to do the same with vario pages and search for used ones on the internet. When I stated my German collection I bought bulk packets which, as you pointed out, are a good way to get started on a particular country. Now I am at the stage where I search for individual stamps. This is such a great hobby, so many ways to collect. Keep up the great work.

      Hi Daniel. Those are excellent tips. And you being 'a dinosaur' is actually helpful as it teaches me that there is other people with different ways and ideas of stamp collecting. Mind if I mention your comment in a future episode as I think it is important to point people to libraries as a possibility. Also making copies of pages finding cheap binders is an excellent tip I would like to share. Thanks for commenting!

    Collecting stamps shouldn't be an viewed as an investment. Inexpensive stamps are just as much fun and used stamps are a great choice. Thanks for all the links that I will visit.

      Hi Julius. I totally agree. A 1 cent stamp can tell as much of a story as an expensive one. I enjoy finding stamps that I don't have. A stamp catalogue for me is mainly to identify what I have and not have and to add a number to a stamp. Please check the links to the stamp channels, thanks for commenting!

    Really enjoyed this and it's great idea for a series. I'm on a budget too, a little less than your regular collecting budget, but I cheated and bought the supplies straight away with a stockbook and tweezers (and my first stamps, with the site just happening to have exactly what I wanted.) Hopefully it all arrives in the next week or two.
    I'm about to watch the next episode and if it goes where I'm guessing it does I think it'll be a great help to anyone getting involved in stamp collecting, and it's just what I was looking for for the past few days. Many people getting into a new hobby don't want to spend a lot of money straight away and showing it can be enjoyable from an affordable approach will even work to introduce people who may have more they want to spare for stamps in months or years to come.

    • @chrislovesstamps

      Hi. Cheating is good. :-) Although I won't do it with this series. I like the limitations. Good you got lucky with what you wanted was offeren too. We need that kind of luck at times!
      I hope episode 2 went where you thought it would. It is a bit of an intermediate episode, episode 3 will be more of a follow up (out due in May). A lot of stuff seems common sense, but maybe that is the risk also, and there are a lot of people looking on the internet 'how to get started'. Thanks you for the comment!

    Great idea for a series, Chris. I would love to see you "save" some of your budget to buy a stockbook full of stamps and see what's in there. i did this recently with a Sweden stockbook, and it is so much fun going through all the stamps and trying to spot varieties and errors. The original collector had each stamp in their collection for a reason, but what is the reason? I have to work it out... Literally years of fun ahead for me, for only a one-off cost of £15. Great way for a beginner to learn about stamps and stamp collecting. :)

  • @chrislovesstamps

    Such a great idea for a series. The hobby doesn’t have to be expensive. At the last show I went to I bought an old stock book full of stamps for $10, getting me both stamps and a stock book that’s still keeping me busy. Love your insights!

      Hi Ken. Thanks for the comment and compliment. Yep, this hobby does not need to be expensive in order to have fun. I would almost say that it is even more fun when you buy a stockbook like you say. There is not 'the risk' of an aftertaste when you buy something expensive. Not saying that an expensive stamp, or set, or anything can't be fun though :-)

      Hey Camiel.

      Hi Jerry. Thank you. It is totally possible, but I was surprised to see the negativity, elitism and entitlement surrounding some people, very narrow-minded. That was what the first take of the video was about. Then I thought I don't want to bring that negativity here. I bet on a 15 pound limit, you have to be strategic at times too, right?

      Hi Gadji. The tweezers I am using is the Lighthouse Pi 51. I really like them. Tricky to use at first, and it has not as much grip at the point as a 'shovel' type tweezers. I especially like it's length, which makes it easy on my hands if I hold it longer. I have a link here. I did not compare prices, just directing you towards the specifics:
