    I'm highly considering getting into this trade. This type of work for me looks like it would be very mentally stimulating. I tried getting into automotive repair and even went to school for it, but that didn't quite work out for me. HVAC looks so much more promising. In a nutshell, if I could get paid to work with my hands and fix things with tools all day, I'd be happy as a clam. You mentioned in one of your other videos that in this trade you'd most likely be working by yourself all day, and as an introvert myself, that makes it sound even better to me.

    Broken threads suck.... nice repair. If you have not seen the Reed Solutions Kit for cutting and fitting PVC for a perfect joint every time, it’s worth a look especially for pipe under pressure in my opinion. After watching a video on the best way to cut and fit pvc, I feel like I have been doing a less than professional job for many years. Peace

    for pvc/other fairly soft flexible material unions, you'r best off using a strap type wrench to grab them without causing distortion, which will in fact squeeze them tighter and make it harder to remove or cause you to break everything off.....
    and I said that way early in the video, as you text commented about it ;)

    I have a client that specifies Titanium is used on heat exchangers where the water is used in a swimming pool. If they are using the chilled water to cool a plunge pool, this could be why it’s titanium. It’s a pain in the arse because not many contractors know, so I’ve replaced stainless steel pool heat exchangers that are a year old because they’ve scaled up and the baffles have failed...

      Oh you sure did. There are ten Gen II systems here, I’m still working through all the bugs. Mostly wiring issues and some integration problems with metasys

    • @countrykid1640
      @countrykid1640 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh, nice! we have one as well a 6 systems, 86 heads that we have been fighting with. its a gen one system though. I did a start up at one of our larger contracts with metasys and they intergrated the vrf into it. just a little gen 2 6 ton 4 head system. heck that went over with out a hitch. they tied it in, tied in H link, hooked it up to bacnet, went into the gateway and set up a few settings and then discovered it in metasys and mapped the points. Also passing on a little info. if any of your equipment is made in 2017 and has a low ambient kit installed there is a bug in the firmware that wont let the system use the kit. we found that out on a install. installed the low ambient kit wired it in and set it up then went to put it in test and it wouldnt do anything and wouldnt display across the 7 segment display. come to find out that due to a firmware problem that wasnt fixed until this year it wont use the low ambiant kit even with the dip switch set and also will not go into test mode. you need to contact your TSM and have them install the updated firmware.

      Cameron Brown appreciate the tip. Having a flash drive fedexed to me as we speak with new updates for service checker. Have had some issues with it recently. I am good friends with our RTSM so I have great resources in that regard. Are you with jci

    • @countrykid1640
      @countrykid1640 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      well thats good. Last time i checked I have the current updates for service checker. And yes i am, out of the Indianapolis branch. 1 of 2 of us that went to the class on VRF. I work on RTU with simplicity, or competitor, as well as assist with water cooled and air cooled chiller repairs and PMs. sort of just a little bit of everything. still getting chillers under my belt. and want to tackle boilers next. ive been with JCI a few years and have been in the trade for 7 years. with a mixture of service and fitter/ plumbing work.

    I've had lots of problems w/ schedule-80 fittings to non-plastic materials, what I've found that works best is a hardening style pipe dope.

    • @throttlebottle5906

      careful with the type of dope and fluid in the system.......... much of the dope it is alcohol based...

    We just finished a controls project in a manufacturing plant near Middletown, CT and we had to install eight wet taps on schedule 80 CPVC because we could not drain the process cooling water. Doing it on the larger diameter pipe like from 3" up to 8" is pretty straight forward using a mechanical tee like a Victaulic or Gruvlok, however we had a few small ones to do on 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" and it is risky because the pipe can break. Our mechanical subcontractor who specializes in piping found some stainless steel saddles that did the trick, but boy were they $$$. I have seen that same setup as you worked on in a similar size, however it had glycol for freeze protection. Nice work as usual.

      snap, SPLOOOSHHH, plant down! plant down! danger will robins, as you get hung out to dry....
      IRL, they should have installed parallel piping with valving so circuits or sections could be drained and modified without halting the whole plant... but once again, being cheap, with a large side dish of poor planning and haste, does a huge waste make..............

    Looks like sch 80 PVC... I've done the PVC extraction game also... Why they didn't just metal piping instead?? Prolly factory design or like you said cost savings... They get really El cheapo i guess

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      most any type of metal commonly used would likely very early fail and/or cost through the roof at the same time.
      that leaves me wondering how it got broke, bad craftsmanship from install (threader worn out/chinesium pipe), some clown over-tightened or hit it with something to break it....

  • @crforfreedom7407

    I'm starting to get a hair-brained idea. I think I'm going to invest in an ultra-sonic leak detector. Bacharach makes a nice one. I've been liking the idea of being able to check for leaks under nit only, but I looked at your application here, and wondered if you were running enough water pressure to make the ultra-sonic work here. Had it been practical, it would of saved a call-back were you not planning to return the next day by letting you know immediately if it was holding pressure. I wonder.....

Is a 6-12 month trade school such as lincoln tech credible as a good entry way to land a job? electricians seem to take too long as i would have to complete a 4 year apprenticeship to achieve journeymen status. AK HVAC how do you handle walking up on a new piece of equipment? I work for residential/light commercial company and we get called out on a 40 ton Trane with intellipak and none of our Technicians are real familiar with the unit but two of us just start the normal diagnosis process and between that and the manual have gotten it working again. But I had another one go out and flip out cause he doesn't know how to work on it. So again how do you handle a new piece of equipment? Any suggestions form you follower would be great as well?

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      about the best you can do is try to find a full service manual in advance, assuming you know what it is or try to get one as soon as you arrive and get the model/serial as muchy as I hate "electronic junk" for field work, now days it's very needed because none of them have real paper or hardback service manuals and when they do, it;s chock full of errors anyway, but so it the "digiturd/junktronic" version ;)

    some of the "domestic" homes around here, I've found nightly "city" water pressure as high as *120psi* and it made me panic, after having installed some 300' of CPVC 10 years prior, as well as flexible lines.
    no it wasn't caused by check-valve/back-flow preventer/pressure regulator, without an expansion tank or failed tank. because that is exactly what I installed to bring it up to code and then some. he real city WP there would top 120-PSI at night, when the electric is cheaper and cheapskate water department/city refills all the towers (insider info or a brain that works better than shysters and button pushers) ohwell...

    I hate PVC with a passion. I have a hospital that has schedule 80 for its HHW lines. Such a pain especially since they seem to have been put in as an afterthought. Many long poorly supported runs. That foil insulation looks like trash. Like the factory uses the foil left over from employees lunches to insulate their equipment to save money
