FC Kaiserslautern has around 320 fan clubs internationally with over 14,000 members. The first official fan club, Nomborn, which still exists today, was founded on 9 June 1969. The most fanatical supporters are in the West Curve, which became famous throughout Germany for its vociferous fans. The atmosphere on the Betzenberg has always been very heated. Even in the early days of the Bundesliga, the Palatinate crowd was described as the rowdiest in the league, but Betzenberg has long played a pioneering role, especially when it comes to volume. After FCK defeated Real Madrid 5:0 in the 1982 UEFA Cup, Real's coach Vujadin Boškov, for example, could not remember "ever having experienced such a vociferous crowd.
As with all clubs in German professional football, there are Ultrà groups at FCK. In the mid-1990s, there were initially smaller ultra-orientated groups whose members and other fans came together to form "Generation Lucifer" in 1998. The "GL" is still the largest ultra group at FCK with over 500 members. Other important groups today are "Frenetic Youth" and "Pfalz Inferno
The fans of 1. FC Kaiserslautern maintain several friendships with fans of other clubs. The ultra group "Generation Luzifer" is friends with the ultras of "Horda Frenetik 97" from FC Metz. In recent years, two hooligan groups from both clubs have also started a friendship between 1. FC Kaiserslautern and VfB Stuttgart. This has been growing ever since. Many other fans are now also committed to this friendship and it is very much alive. The oldest of the current major links is with the fans of TSV 1860 Munich.
Historically, the first major rivalry after the Second World War developed with FK Pirmasens in the days of the Oberliga Südwest as the highest division. This rivalry is still anchored in the collective memory today, but no longer plays out in matches due to decades of different league affiliations.
Even today, FCK fans mainly have rivalries with fans of clubs that are also located in south-west Germany. Long-standing rivalries exist above all with SV Waldhof Mannheim, Karlsruher SC, 1. FC Saarbrücken and Eintracht Frankfurt due to many past derbies.
