This is hands down one of the best documentaries I've seen in quite some time. Dave Thomas was truly an incredible man who absolutely changed fast food. I never knew he had such a big impact on the creation of KFC. That would explain how he was able to out maneuver BK and McDonald's while under the radar. I've always preferred Wendy's over BK or McDonald's because their quality is always better. I'll only ever go to McDonald's or BK as an absolute last resort. How does this documentary not have 100k+ views???? Definitely kept me interested and I learned some things about Dave Thomas I never knew. This was so well put together. It's a shame there aren't several million views, but hopefully this will change. Truly awesome documentary. Definitely deserves 5 stars plus!!!

Until I watched The Food That Built America, I had no idea that Dave Thomas started out as a franchise owner of KFC. I still remember the Wendy's commercials with him. He was truly revolutionary. When McDonald's and Burger King were famous for using frozen burgers, he pledged that his would always be fresh. And he used the leftover meat to make chili. Plus, his square burgers made the competition's look smaller by comparison. Truly a smart businessman.
At 51 years old I can still remember working for both a McDonald’s and a Wendy’s in my teenage years. I was always amazed by the quality of Wendy’s food. The burgers would literally come in on metal trays completely fresh and never frozen. Today I still prefer Wendy’s when I’m in the market for a fast food burger!!

Most kids do a biography paper on outstanding accomplished people of our country, former presidents, their heros... I did one on Dave, my hero. He is a true representation of what America can offer and is all about.

I used to be an investor in Wendy's back in highschool. When Dave pass away and Arby's brought them out I sold my stop. I am glad I did because the quality has went down
I’ve definitely heard that sentiment about the quality going down but they are still in my opinion still head and shoulders above McDonalds and Burger King in taste. And they do continue to crank out unique offerings “Pumpkin Spice Frosty” “Loaded Nacho Cheeseburger” as most recent examples. I discovered Wendy's in 1980 in Kamloops. At the Valleyview location ,McDonald's and Wendy's were right next to each other , ( now there's a car wash between them ) I'd get a TRIPLE BURGER and a drink at the drive thru , and eat the Wendy burger while going through the McDonald's drive thru . I would also give them the Wendy's garbage! Gotta love those McDonald's fries !

The quality of Wendy's food was always better than the others, also the way the food was assembled. McDonalds has frustrated me for years with misaligned burgers and fish sandwiches that half of the cheese was stuck to one side of the box and the condiments on the other side. Burger King is still the worst on flavor.
I'm in 2022 watching like "Good Lord, Burger King is running wild! Shots fired!" 🤣 Also it turns out Wendy has been the Queen of clap back since the early days 🤣

Dave Thomas WAS Wendy's. The perfect spokesman, rags to riches, likeable... His death was a major blow to the chain, which still hasn't really figured out how to recover. First Wendy herself was chosen as a spokesperson,, then a skinny prettier version was presented but she just didnt catch on either. They still haven't found a solution and have faded out a bit. They need a totally new advertising campaign, perhaps using all the old footage of Dave tastefully, show an old commercial, then continue on talking about Dave and how his memory has inspired an old or a new menu item - I'm no ad expert, but they really need a new image/introduction to the younger market and reminder to the older crowd. I'd still rather eat there than McDonald's or Burger King.

The quality of Wendy's food was always better than the others, also the way the food was assembled. McDonalds has frustrated me for years with misaligned burgers and fish sandwiches that half of the cheese was stuck to one side of the box and the condiments on the other side. Burger King is still the worst on flavor.

Try a big Mac you have to reassemble it yourself everytime. I haven't eaten McDonald's in years for that reason. Arby's is a close second.

Dave Thomas WAS Wendy's. The perfect spokesman, rags to riches, likeable... His death was a major blow to the chain, which still hasn't really figured out how to recover. First Wendy herself was chosen as a spokesperson,, then a skinny prettier version was presented but she just didnt catch on either. They still haven't found a solution and have faded out a bit. They need a totally new advertising campaign, perhaps using all the old footage of Dave tastefully, show an old commercial, then continue on talking about Dave and how his memory has inspired an old or a new menu item - I'm no ad expert, but they really need a new image/introduction to the younger market and reminder to the older crowd. I'd still rather eat there than McDonald's or Burger King.
