It freaked me out that even though it was written almost one hundred years ago, the world he described has too many resemblances with today society. It was a shoking reading

Very good and interesting explanation. I haven't read the book. I've only seen the 1980 TV movie. Looks like the biggest difference is the ending. I guess you can't very well show a mass orgy on TV can you?

I think as a utilitarian I came out of this book with a different perspective than most.
I imagine this isn't much of a dystopia in your view as people can't miss what they don't know, I haven't drawn any conclusions as yet because I've only listened to summaries.

Not really, the fact you have the ability to make this comparison and see right over wrong already proves it doesnt really match up. There are some similarities though.

It is, the normalisation of casual sex, accessible pornography, sex toys, pharmaceuticals used not to heal to but to numb someone to their reality, promotion of individuality and convenience above all else even at the price of a unborn child...
The brave new world won't appear out of nowhere, it will incrementally become our reality.

Just finished reading this book. A great summary and unfortunately I can see the world going in this direction. There are women who think it's disgusting to breastfeed children... so why not one day the idea of giving birth?
It’s already been happening for some time. I’ve heard quite a few women say they’re not interested in birthing children at all.

We have been living in this Brave World for a while... I don't think this book was groundbreaking, but it did raise a huge flag of human reality. It's hard to see how much worse it is now compared to 1932.

People say "I'm a progressive." Progressive toward what? Progress isn't good if it is toward evil. Were supposed to assume that "progressive" is always a good thing? But of course evil is now seen as subjective. If evil cannot be defined then we are done.
