  • If you want to check the operation of the VIS motors on the KV6 engine and fix them yourself at virtually zero cost, here's is how to do it. There's a circuit shown for continuous monitoring (but watch the video for why you shouldn't continuously monitor the direction signals as this may actually make the VIS relays stick on), a section on testing the VIS motor on the bench, then the main bit is on removing, dismantling and fixing the micro switches and electric motor. These last two are individually dismantled and cleaned up to restore operation, not just thrown away and replaced.

    Thanks for the information about the vis motor Rover75 v6 177hp, I've just finished my Vis motor and it seems to be working well in idle and revving the motor it warmed up and settle to normal idling speed.
    Know I have to see how it reacts when driving motorway and normal roads.
    But it sounds and looks good

      Cheers. Good to read. Also try fitting those monitor LEDs that tell you when the VIS motors engage, you can feel the increased power when they change.

    Thank you comeinhandynow!! I've learned so much and will work on my vis motor.

    And just been driving through traffic stopping and starting, no problem matter fact the engine is idling at 3000 rph which is optional.
    The monitor box you were talking about find it OK except for wrong showing LEDs.

    Thanks for sharing your video. I have ordered a couple of VIS motors from the UK recently. I plan to attempt a repair on the existing ones (to keep as spares) utlising a test device which I will build myself. However my question is: Since you filmed this, has there been any ill effects that you are aware of by totally blocking off the filter on each motor housing to prevent oil contamination. I’m guessing no, but would be interesting to know. Thanks again.

      Thanks and no ill effects that I have noticed.

    Great video, as always.
    One question. So the valve should be open at idle. But the position with the engine off; or zero position, is open or closed? (For example; when you installed the motor)

      Thanks. Actually it is hard to remember now, but if you plug the VIS unit back in while it is off, you should be able to see it open and close with ignition on/off hopefully. If it is just fitted it shouldn’t matter which position it is in as it will reset to the correct one I believe.

    Truly wonderful and very helpful video. Thank you for your time in making for all of us.
    I have two old VIS motors which won't move and possibly needs to be be repaired. I was wondering if you can purchase separately this motor and micro-switches? Do they have them on e-bay?
    Please let me know I am interested. Thank you very much.

      Thanks for your kind comments. I haven't seen the motors on eBay or the like, but I'm sure they can be had somewhere because I have heard (on MGRover forums) of someone offering a repair service where they put in new motor and switches.

    Thank you so much for these MG/Rover videos! :) Bloody great! Flushing that first motor with some good old wd40 surely would have helped?

      Thanks for the nice feedback. You're right wd40 is great for flushing out gunk and helps in cleaning.

    Really good useful video. Have you any idea where I can get hold of just a balance valve? Mine has disintegrated and I'm struggling to get hold of one. I really don't want to fork out for a whole manifold, just for a very easily accessible and replaceable piece of plastic.

      Thanks. Not sure about where to get just a valve. Options are to try and make something to repair it, or get a secondhand manifold (eBay).

      Thanks for your reply. I did fear that would be the case, but as it turns out, a gentleman who frequents the forums has had them manufactured so I've managed to order one.

    Just bought an mg zs 180 the other day. And sprayed a whole tin of carb cleaner through the inlet manifold at the throttle body at varying rpm and wide open. The car is now sounding so smooth and there was some noise from the vis manifold area before I did this. Just thought I'd put this out there don't know how long it will keep the oil soaking of the inlet at bay but gonna do it twice a year for now. All my other cars I would only do it once a year but this has so much oil getting into the inlet. Just sending out my two cents if it helps anyone.

      Thanks for the tip. Still worth checking the VIS motors are working though, as carb cleaner wont fix worn out or oxidised motor brushes or switches.

    Hi, i watched your video and it was really helpful ... I just want you to ask... The power valves motor - i checked it .... Motor is turning, rele is clicking, same as micro switches ... Everythink looks gr8 - but - when i plug it into car with ignition on - there is no that calibration sound you show up. It is dead. .. does not move at all ... Is it probleme in harness? Or is there somethink iam missing? What should i check? The balance valve make this - reset sound so this is ok ... But this one not

      Try making that monitor circuit to see if it is operating or not.

    • @comeinhandynow
      @comeinhandynow  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also try testing it as shown from 30:20 in the video

    Hi friends, I would like to know if you sell this tab variable inlet manifold

    • @comeinhandynow
      @comeinhandynow  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try a car scrap yard or internet search. If you want the whole manifold.
