I walked the same stretch of canal with my friend about 10 years ago. We love the canals and walking parts of them especially near mariners. Great memories as he is not with us now. I'm from staveley and watched your film there. Very good. I'll subscribe thank you.
It isn’t just a worrying time for the canals, it’s a worrying time for our whole world. The whole western world is in the grip of complete and total incompetence. Has a boater of almost 10 years, I will do my bit to keep an eye on the particular places I tend to frequent, helping out wherever I can. Our heritage, our birthright, must be protected. When you work on heritage and learn about the blood sweat and tears that went into it, in often appalling conditions, one will understand. Another informative video, shame that we didn’t see any moored or moving boats, interestingly, the lock gear hydraulics are the same standard as the first 6 locks on from the Derwent mouth to Stenson Bubble on the Trent and Mersey. It’s interesting because to the best of my knowledge there isn’t a manufacturer or location name on any of them … can anyone find out, because they’re the easiest to use and very robust. Usually here as ‘thoughtsonnarrowboating’ btw!
I agree it's really worrying that the canals are not better supported. The heritage, natural world and green corridors they offer in towns and cities is so important. I only saw one narrow boat on the move. I'll try and take more footage of boats on the move in future videos.
Yes it’s a Worrying time for the Canal Network, hopefully things can be sorted out. Shame there was on Narrowboats on the Canal, is it open? Is Derbyshire your County? Here is another Tip for you to help you a little I hope 😋 Any news on your Members area yet?
Thank you. I only saw one boat on the move. but it's good to see the Huddersfield Broad Canal looking in such good condition. I'm just across the border in South Yorkshire. I'm going to try and hit 1,000 subscribers for the advertising income, then come back to the members area. My back problem has slowed me down unfortunately.
The canal is open but you have to book passage through lock 1E on the Narrow Canal on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This restriction no doubt puts boaters off using the Huddersfield canals.
@@andrewthomas3270 Hi hope you are well. Apologies for the late reply. Hope you are well and thank you. I live near Sheffield so just outside Derbyshire. Not much progress with my members area unfortunately, I've been slightly slowed down by some recent back problems and the weather. Hope to be back out there this week, all the best Mike.
Of course, successive governments will be lobbied to increase funding, but to my mind there is massive scope to increase tourism. You only have to read the comments on narrowboat channels from overseas viewers who have no idea so many of our historic inland waterways are still navigable, that they're mainly used for leisure, that anyone from anywhere can hire a boat and that no training or qualification is required. What other country has this? Why aren't we publicising it more? As a boat owner myself, I'd be quite happy for there to be more congestion if it meant increased revenue/funding.
That is an excellent point about the potential of tourism. I think our canal network is an excellent selling point too. I would love to switch from gongoozling to boating, will look into it.

Thanks very much. It's excellent the progress of the canal restoration at Staveley.
Thanks
Thank you. Have a good weekend.

No plastic debris in the water!
One of the cleanest sections of canal I've visited in a while. Good job Huddersfield!
No boats?
I only saw one boat on the move. Water levels looked low in places which might explain it.
They have been selling off the silver since they took over
Hopefully this will be the last time. I think the reservoir maintenance is costing a fortune.
Like most things here they will only be affordable by the very rich!
I hope canal boating will be an option for everyone but the system is definitely under pressure.
