    Toronto hoods are built in multi income areas. This area has complexes of government housing. Surrounded by private homes. These complexes are where the violence takes place.

    Great vid! I lived in TO from 75 to 1980, and grew up in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s just about 90 minutes away. Even in the late 70’s Jane and Finch was a “no-no” and there were local jokes about it!

    Jane and Finch's biggest crime is horribly dull architecture. And yeah, by Toronto standards, there's a fair bit of crime out there. In Toronto, most of the money and good neighbourhoods are in downtown and immediately surrounding it. You have to go out quite a ways to get to the shitty parts like Jane and Finch. But there are good people trying to make their way up there too. (Yes, I know there are lots of solid middle-class/rich areas in the 'burbs too.)

    I feel like “hoods” in Canada are a synonym to describe “low income neighbourhoods with higher than average crime rates” rather than a historically deprived ethnic neighbourhood like you see in the U.S. with black neighbourhoods or in Europe back in the day with Jewish ghettos. The main exception are the indigenous reserves up north but by textbook definition, there are no true “hoods” or “ghettos” in large Canadian cities

    • @tdotsblessing
      @tdotsblessing 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      There's no such thing as "true hoods" that makes it seem like it's a badge of honour... There's just areas that are a lot more run down and neglected. This isn't even something to be proud of but the modern description of a "hood" that most people are familiar with is a low income area with high levels of crime. If poverty along with murders, shootings, stabbings, & drug dealings are present in certain neighbourhoods in a city then by the modern description, that is a hood/ghetto. And unfortunately certain parts of Canadian major cities fits this description.
      Now are there WORSE hoods than Canadian ones? Of course, but that mean it’s not a "hood" now just because areas in Detroit, St. Louis, New Orleans etc. exist, two things can be true at once.

      There are true hoods in canada all over. There are mainly black neighbourhoods in Canada and always have been since the first was was built in the 1940s. Canada has cities that are worse than american cities and the facts prove it. There are true ghettos all over Vancouver and toronto. You didn't do your research properly.

      there is true indigenous hoods in Winnipeg that. would be qualified as ghetto by definition, the crime rate there are trough the roof and homicide rate too. But its the exception,,, there is not really other whole neighborhoods like that in Canada, except the Rez.

      Yeah…the high rises look like areas of Queens. J&F is stupid far from downtown. I think they just improved public transit to the area-used to take well over a hour to reach from Parkdale. Most of these huge complex’s are “garden style” meaning the developments do not face the streets and it’s all internal, maze like with only one or two small streets connected to the road. Also, Ontario has mixed income neighborhoods…meaning it was intentional to build nice suburban homes next to bland Soviet style Ontario housing.
