    I concur with John Browning sir. Leave her simple, original, and beautiful.
    I love mine. Very grateful I picked one up.
    Thanks for the video.

    Just got my first Colt. I love the 1911 Classic. I was hoping you’d give your opinion of the polymer mainspring housing. Really considering the EGW Arched Steel MSH on mine. Just not sure it’s worth it. Great review!
    I agree with the only 1 mag concern. I bought 3 more that match exactly.

    • @glocksrock1
      @glocksrock1  ปีที่แล้ว

      The plastic mainspring housing doesn’t really bother me. If I build one up I’ll usually change it but only then

    I have had 7 of these. The exact model. I now have 2, one blued like yours and one in stainless. Long story. I sold the others slowly for money as I wanted to open a business. I shot hundreds of rounds through all and not a single feeding issue or any other issue.
    They have started to use different mags but most came with a checkmate mag. I could go into a whole video and I probably will at some point and why I believe these are the best 1911 magazines on the planet. I have not used any other type of magazine in the previous mentioned 1911s failure free. I have also used the same magazines in my auto ordinance and Smith and Wesson’s and Springfield’s and since I started using these magazines I have not had a single malfunction in any 1911s. My auto ordinance had some issues with the stock magazine and when I started using the check mate magazine I had zero issues. The anti-tilt follower is a must however checkmate does use both. if the follower at the top has a patent of 6.56 0.907 that is the magazine I am referring to and although their springs are not as strong and long lasting as a Wilson combat you can see the follower is more vertical pointing towards the barrel when it is inserted which helps for reliable feeding.
    Great gun and I agree with everything you said!

    The pistol is very attractive. I do believe to change its already classic appearance would not be necessary. Keep it like it looks now

    Outstanding pistol! Classic lines and from the original maker. Any fan of the 1911 needs one.

  • @BillyRao1
    @BillyRao1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like the classic lines, but dehorning, since it shouldn't be painful to shoot. New sites, like the Harrison Retro make it easier to acquire a target. Doing a trigger job all make sense. I would also send it Nighthawk and get it coated in smoked nitride.

    • @glocksrock1

    Sounds like you need a Gold Cup National Match. For the amount you may be spending on a major facelift for this pistol, a Gold Cup would fit your pistol needs. Leave this great looking pistol as is.

    I’d like to see checkering and reduced size of hammer. Keep as close to original as possible but still able to claim it custom.

  • @davidnoot4995
    @davidnoot4995 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like that the hammer and slide stop are tool steel. I just looked at the firing pin plate on my Colt 1911c under the microscope and see a hairline crack from the hole to the lower left cornered out area. This is definitely a part that should not be MIM. I’m going to replace it with a tool steel one. Luckily it’s not too expensive of a part.

    I love Colt. I have a stainless Combat Commander. Did a trigger job on it, checkered the front strap, Ed Brown checkerd main spring housing and mag well, Smith and Alexander grip safety, crowned the barrel and some nice G10 VZ grips. Its s tac driver with my Trijicon nightsights. I would do a trigger and reliability job on that beauty get some ivory or camel bone white grips. DLC coat it with polished flats. Get that Clint Smith look. Good luck with it. Let us see how it comes out.

    Put a arched main spring housing polish the sides of the hammer and buy some vintage series 70 grips.

    • @sonnygunz9207
      @sonnygunz9207 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s exactly what I did. My slide to frame fit isn’t what I consider tight but the barrel locks up like a bank vault and I can shoot a silver dollar at 24 feet ,4 out of 5 shots. I like the look of the arched MSH but the feel of a flat MSH. It’s an amazing gun for the price. Love the Colt Government model.

  • @AGC828
    @AGC828 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I never noticed how the hammer is too long on the "Classic". The whole point (or partly) of having a high-rise beavertail is to prevent hammer bite. There should have been a "seat" for the hammer. Colt messed up there. I'd swap out the hammer and beavertail with a Wilson. Love the bluing and classic grips. Add a magwell. Basically the Nighthawk Colt Model 70. Keep us posted on your upgrades...like to see what you end up doing with yours.

    I would be interested in your opinion on the quality of the build parts on a Sig Sauer 1911

    • @glocksrock1
      @glocksrock1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When the GSR line of Sig 1911’s were introduced they used all tooled steel components. The newer guns now use MIM small parts. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it is worth noting. The slide frame and barrel on the Sig is forged and of good quality. I think they are good 1k dollar guns. I have been looking for a tac ops 10mm but the prices have shot up on them.

    • @richardknowlton7532
      @richardknowlton7532 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@glocksrock1 I have a Sig Nightmare commander size 1911 in .357 Sig that seems to have held up well for years. Not bad for an 800 gun considering its all steel with front and back checkering and very good nite sights. I think your on the right track with that Colt Classic build. I have several 1911 Colts in 45 ACP that I would never part with. Good luck with your build and very impressed with your TH-cam presentation!

    It was my understanding that the barrel lugs were on top and locked into the slide, not the slide lock below ? Can you elaborate please.

    • @glocksrock1
      @glocksrock1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The barrel has lugs on the top that lock into the slide but the lower barrel lugs or barrel feet set on the slide stop.

      glocksrock1 Cool. I look forward seeing where you go with it. I two toned my hammer and trigger. Added medallion grips and painted the front sight. I’ve carried it for about 80 days now and put 731 rounds through it. Not a single malfunction. I have 24 mags for it and they all run 100%. I can shoot the classic lights out. The barrel fit is really tight, the slide to frame fit has some play but its not holding back the accuracy at all. Love it. I’d buy a second one if I wasn’t jonesin for a WWI & WWII models. Thanks for taking the time.
