Jane by Charlotte - Q&A with Charlotte Gainsbourg

Q&A with director Charlotte Gainsbourg, moderated by journalist and writer Christina Newland on the occasion of the screening of Charlotte Gainsbourg’s directorial debut, Jane by Charlotte, as part of the French Film Festival UK 2022 at Ciné Lumière.
With a subtle nod to Agnès Varda’s Jane B. for Agnes V. (1988), Gainsbourg crafts an intimate portrait of Jane Birkin, a singer, an actor, an icon and her mother. Through the camera lens, they expose themselves to one another and overcome a shared sense of reserve.

Some few days ago, I watched this docu-film on TV5. Charlotte, you did a good job. Your love for your mother flowed through out the way you shot the film. You were able to show a strong and beautiful lady. She was proud of you. That scene in Serge's flat in Paris was 'superbe'. It was a walk down memory lane. I was tearful when she called you 'Mon p'tit chou'. Bravo Charlotte.

I think she is the personification of the word 'demure', with a touch of chic✨️ I can not belive with her parents, her mother lineage, her upbringing and her carrer, she still is this shy, modest, cute and lovely human! Polar opposite to the modern nepo babies.

Can you possibly translate what Charlotte says earlyish in the interview in French - I hear it as La chance beauté de bouton but that translates as the lucky button, so I’m definitely way off, I think - I would be appreciate it if you could help?😊
