I appreciated that both for Wargreymon and Machinedramon they didn't have Augmon evolve fully into them. Rather they have these glowing energy shells that are hard to make out and only reminiscent of the final form. It gave me a real sense of urgency and a sign that things had gone wild and out of control. It's like the show's saying for Wargreymon this wasn't supposed to happen YET and Machinedramon wasn't supposed to happen AT ALL but the situation was just dire enough to push these boundaries.
Same. I like how evolution feels more earned here. A weakness of the older show is that evolution became munade and mega evolution quickly became stale. Here they almost tease us with the end result which make the eventual evolution more satisfying.
@@kronos1794 the only time I would say the remake rushed and kinda made the evolutions so bullshit was when they remade the OVA into the first arc.... For some reason. Having Greymon and Garurumon INSTANTLY fuse into Omnimon was piss poor. However, here it showed that the bond between Tai and Agumon is so great that Agumon can push past the limitations placed on the Digimon of the Digidestined, that require certain criteria. Unlike other Agumon, that can eventually evolve into their Mega-evolution fully, Agumon here was a shell, a mere glimpse at his final, strongest form. I like that. It's a spoiler for new kids, but at the same time not. Since you can't see it fully. It even enhances the bond between Tai and Agumon! Usually remakes are garbage, and tbh I hate the first arc with Omnimon. But man.. This remake it turning out fantastic. Darker than the original by a mile. If only Dragonball could have followed in the steps of Digimon.. So sad.

I watched digimon as a child so now that I'm a 27 y.o fan of digimon, I totally agree. 10/10. When yamato said to takeru "don't mind us, run if thing turns out bad". Taichi knew it's not gonna happen (he glanced towards takeru when yamato said that). Takeru will stay and try to save his brother, putting himself in danger. So to avoid that, he pushed yamato. But it happened anyway. That's why he got so mad and lost control. He's so heroic and so human in this episode. I love it. The way Takeru desperately running towards his injured brother also so touching. The angle of that scene is just so well-made.
The other thing that's creepy about it is that this dark evolution doesn't seem to be Tai's fault. He starts acting the way he does because he was douched with the miasma juice. So it's likely he was being controlled to some degree.

Interestingly Agumon said in the original series that he should just go and digivolve in to the next Dark Master. In the 2020 series he basically does.

I'm just satisfied they gave Metalgreymon much more use in the reboot than they did in the original and him becoming machinedraman was an idea I thought about as a kid, because of their shared arms. Glad it was finally connected. Then breaking out and then becoming wargreymon was a great transition.
A reminder, Millenniummon is created when Machinedramon and Kimeramon fuse. We saw an incomplete Machinedramon today. We might see a Kimeramon in the future. This is the battle against the Millenniummon line.
I really hope they did something more with Machinedramon other than “MaChIneDrAmOn BaD!!! WaRgReYmOn GoOd!!!”. They could tried to learn how to control Machinedramon’s power (More Power, less control compared to WG’s less power, more control?) and as Taichi and Agumon mature, would be able to combine the best of both worlds in the form of BlitzGreymon
Well milleniummon is born with jogress from the data remains of machindramon and kimerimon. We have the data remains of machindramon if we get to see kimeramon in this series then there'se a high chance we get to see milleniummon. Another reference to milleniumon is Eyesmon who is verry similar to Shademon.
@@Zekrom997 Well remember that not only does Blitz Greymon evolve from MetalGreymon Virus, an alternative evolution path, but also that Mugendramon evolves from Skull Greymon. It's very likely that this is what they're intending on happening. Machinedramon potentially is copied from Agumon's data or corrupted by Chimeramon and upon regaining sanity Agumon learns to harness this power and slide digivolve from Mugendramon into Blitz Greymon in a similar fashions to this episode.
This episode was a masterclass and it’s digimon at its very best. The great thing about digimon is that it’s both made for kids and adults however this episode would lean towards more for adults.

The best episode of all Digimon series hands down. I read that DoneDevimon's design was inspired by Venom and Spawn. Venom was always my favorite villain in Spiderman and it's super cool to see his influence in Digimon.
In all honesty, without even reading about it, the design, for me at least, looked like Spawn and Vemon fused into one with some highlights of Myotismon.
Its my favorite episode too, so far. And I think a more appropriate name would be VenomDevimon, since the similarities that it has with Venom and VenomMyotismon are remarkable

I am just surprised by how much more Takeru is being integral to the plot than the OG series, this boy is useful and you get a sense of satisfaction every time he goes out on his own.
Its nice to see Digimon keeping with its dark origins in this remake/reboot of the original, as Digimon has always been so much more mature than other monster taming shows.
It's been almost two months and my jaw still drops when I see DoneDevimon's mouth chomp down on Tai. I don't remember any situation from 01 or 02 ever feeling THIS hopeless or desperate.
The Digimon Our War Game movie did feel pretty desperate to me. The moment of triumph, with both Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon landing attacks at Diablomon, with Brave Heart in the backround, but then Koushirou has to go the bathroom (and Brave Heart gets stuck on Show me your brave heart which i don't remember happening in the anime, clear signal that something was wrong) and Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon miss their attacks and the computer freezes (Brave Heart stops) and Wargreymon stops moving. Then Koushirou comes back and gets mad at Taichi for freezing the computer and fighting with Sora. When we come back at Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon, they are destroyed. And the countdown begins. Diablomon is multiplying and 2 missiles were launched. But Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon don't give up, they will face Diablomon again. After facing imposible odds, and being beaten, the desire for justice of all the people watching the fight forces an innatural, imposible evolution. But even Omegamon isn't able to hit Diablomon until Koushirou sends all those messages at Diablomon's address. It takes the strongest digimon at that point in time and weakening Diablomon in order to achieve victory. Definitely the most desperate struggle.
I am happy to see that adventure 2020 is having a personality if it's own, it's a reboot not a re make , brings something good to the table. I feel the role of the other kids could be developed further.
The reason for the glowing bodies of MAchinedramon and Wargreymon, I believe, may indicate that the transformation was incomplete, and while Wargreymon comes out as a complete digimon, tthe glowing body may indicate that it's missing something, as it's caused by Agumon's desire to save Taichi, and seemed to be independent of the digivice, the same with Machinedramon, considering it's both glowing a hot red color and missing his iconic back cannons, it may indicate that these are incomplete evolutions. I dread to think what would happen to Agumon if the transformation completed into a complete Machinedramon, could he really come back after that?

Hearing your appreciation for this episode and show (one of my favorites) really illustrates to me the divide between those of us capable of enjoying Digimon Adventure 2020, and those who apparently hate literally everything about it. I myself enjoy it for what it is; not as good as the original for sure, but also nice for being different and doing some genuinely cool things, warts and all.
@@skip031890 tamers has everything on this episode. this episode wasn't that scary or dark, their have been plenty of digimon seasons where the good digimon goes bad, even tamers did it, but if you think back to tamers with guilmon going evil, jeri being corrupted by the D reaper( that puppet talking by itself is still unnerving) Jeri f*uck up nightmare sequence, jeris evil copy, plus the entire final arc and the imagery used would give any man a sleepless night. I know its easy to get caught up in all the hype and forget what happened in tamers, but trust me tamers is f*cked up in ways this show can only imagine. just wish the fanboys stop overblowing everything out of proportion.

I haven't been watching, but I have been keeping up. The fact that Agumon broke through his rage and darkness to digivolve into something greater was honestly great storytelling, especially when even after 2 massive power-ups in the same fight still wasn't enough. I personally think that going forward, achieving WarGreymon again shouldn't happen for a while. Like let the other kids' Digimon at least achieve some alternative ultimate form like MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon did. Then when the next big-bad shows up, have Agumon digivolve back to WarGreymon out of desperation, but still not be enough, then let it be Gabumon who finally achieves his own Mega form and they struggle to take the villain down, but ultimately succeed.
I think WarGreymon is going to become a normal evolution for two reasons. First, episode 5 made it explicitly clear that we are going to get the Mega forms of at least the first six Digimon (otherwise they wouldn't have shown them). Second, the same episode hinted that there is a named level beyond Mega, which would explain why we saw WarGreymon less than halfway through the series.

As a 23 year old fan of the franchise I loved this episode. It was heartbreaking. I was honestly speechless throughout most of it. It was gorgeous but utterly terrifying. I highly doubt we’ll ever see Matt go through a dark digivolution but I’m so excited on what else there is to come for this series. All I can ask for now is that the kids get their Megas. This show has already checked off all my other boxes

Its been two years since episode 24 premiered, but the dark evolution and the moment where angemon helps agumon snap out of his rage and we see agumon crying as he reaches out to tai still brings tears to my eyes. I think it's the best example of *showing* how much a digimon loves their partner that the franchise has ever done. And I think that's one of adv 2020's biggest strengths, showing how much the partnerships mean to both human and digimon.
Best episode in this series like OMG. Donedevimon was like venom + devimon and right after the episode aired, donedevimon got a card for set 4 (great legend) of the digimon TCG with a broken skill 😈

@@blllklbn4055 I like the fighting focus, I think the old one was more budget constrained than anything else. And the character development actually happened when the kids got separated after the final Etemon fight. I think the new one is doing right by taking it slow with the character development. They're making the reboot without ignoring the original, which is the right thing to do.
Digimon Adventure 2020 it's infinitely better than the 1999 digimon adventure anime with the exception of the ost the only thing the adventure 1999 anime is better in is the ost thanks to Koji Wada may he rest in peace

This episode has one of the darkest moments yet. Taichi's Berserker Mode rivals that of Takato's, but Taichi was consumed and Angemon saves Agumon instead.
On a scale of one to ten I'd probably give it thirty, I was a massive Digimon fan of it's former saga, and Just Couldn't Wait For The Next Episode after each time they popped one out.
I 100% agree with you dude. My brain literaly froze and my jaw dropped from when Taichi and MetalGreymon went berserk all the way 'til the end of the episode!
This episode is my favourite, I think. It's so full of feelings. The moment when MetalGreymon sees Taichi EATEN is so awesome. His eyes go crazy, he runs towards Donedevimon filled with RAGE that is so appreciated, showing the connection between them. Not fully evolved to Machinedramon but still that makes create damage.. and finally how Angemon (with the music on the background!) calming Agumon down, he bursts in tears and "breaks free", then showing silhouette of Wargreymon's form, although that is not completed either. Yet. And this episode made me appreciate ep 30 where we finally get Wargreymon.
This show has 2 kinds of audience to target. Both new and old audience, so there is no suprise that the battle is more violent in comparison to the original. Thus, this reboot is produced by TOEI, the same studio produced Dragon Ball Super. The action is very excellent in the hand of this studio. I feel like I was watching Dragon Ball Super. I really like what they are doing to the Digimon franchise.
I had no idea there was even a Digimon reboot, but after seeing your preview of sorts, I'm hella interested. I remember Skullgreymon from the original and always wished something more had been done with alternate digivolutions.
I guess I'm one of the very few ones that never even thought about Machinedramon being the next step in MetalGreymons Line... it does make so much sense, that it hurts to not have thought about it
THIS IS HOW IT IS DONE!!!! PERFECT CONCLUSION TO THE DEVIMON ARC! Definitely MUST WATCH episode by every Digimon Fans .... This Episode was Dark, Emotional. Badass and animation wise it was also satisfactory.... 1) I really how MetalGreymon put his own fight against DoneDevimon.... it was badass I really love how they utilise Ultimate Forms in this Reboot! They really needed that! 2) Mugendramon/MachineDramon cameo was top notch! It was incomplete because Full MachineDramon requires some other machine digimon parts.... was very interesting detail by the writers again.... if it was in full mode DoneDevimon would be truly ''Done'' in a second... and everyone was a bit disappointed cause we probably won't get SkullGreymon... but now they gave us something even better!!!! 3) At the beginning I was a bit annoyed but now I understand why writers made Tai-Yamato-Takeru separated from the others... the scenes focusing on few characters' efforts/fight make them more intense, meaningful and you feel the struggle.... also I don't like to see just one Digimon is kicking everyone asses at the same time unless it's MAJOR... I mean MAJOR Villain (I love Devimon but it's not Milleniummon).... again very good decision by the Writers! 4) WarGreymon my boi made his entrance! No offence I love Omnimon.... but I love WarGreymon more... I am just so happy what they done with him even with his entrance.... that shows he's not just going to be Omnimon food as I feared.... 5) Agumon - Tai Scene.... how Agumon cries.... really made me feel so bad for him... that was a great emotional scene 6) Finally Patamon! They made Devimon Great! ...this time we really felt like he's a really threatening villain .... first we saw his intelligent then monstrous form.... Great Conclusion to his arc.... Note: I don't expect them to go for Myotismon-VenoMyostismon though since that was very similar to that....
Im pretty sure they are going for Myotismon-MaloMyostismon instead considering Myotismon had two story arcs in original adventure 01/02. so they are probably going with sadistic villain aspect angle with MaloMyostismon if he becomes villain. IMO they need do MaloMyostismon justice and redeem him after that 02 "defeat".
I think that if Taichi and Agumon learn how to control the Machinedramon evaluation or learn how to use the Wargreymon going into the last evaluation (from kizuna) it seems like in the reboot toei is trying to get through every evaluation of each digimon

Exactly that was Machinedramon's incomplete form not only his cannons were missing but also his power level clearly was lower. Also he just fought in berserk mode without strategic thinking.... otherwise Donedevimon would be done in few seconds :D :D
yeah but i don't think Infinite Cannon would have helped in the fight honesty because: A:Donedevimon would just block both of them with his hands making them explode on themselves like he did with tail. B:Infinite Cannon is really slow attack and needs to charge up and could easily miss its target because Donedevimon is too fast and would stay away from it's range. Infinite Cannon mainly works on opponents that are immovable or very slow. (even you can use this as strategy in digimon world next order when you fight machinedramon) The only shot it could have worked it is when he had Donedevimon pinned down but it just goes back to DoneDevimon using its arms again to block attack. but that just my opinion because Infinite Cannon was stopped/disabled by another digimon before in Xro wars and in this fight it would have backfired and do more harm on machinedramon then it does with Donedevimon.

I am a huge Digimon fan from a young childI it is the only anime that stuck with me through the years and as a standalone episode I think it was very good, but I am too old now to be impressed my One Piece fight scenes from 10 years ago and no storytelling or worldbuilding and expending the decades of lore that Digimon has to offer. If it was the remake of Frontier I would be totally fine, but it is Adventure and I am getting tired of waiting for something that simply isn't coming story wise. I am still going to support the season no matter what but it looks like I have to adjust my expectations and I have only vague hope that where will be at least one or two episodes like episode 12, I don’t think we are getting episodes like Mamoru Hosoda’s Home Away From Home episode. I really like your reviews, keep up the good work, yours and the old Billiam’s reviews are beginning to get more interesting than the episodes themselves.
To be honest, this is also my favourite episode, despite how I didn't supported a Dark Evolution at first, but how this all played out, I just loved it, it's well made. And I love how Metal Greymon felt the Grief in losing Taichi, and the rage at DoneDevimon for eating Taichi, it's like even if there is a Dark Evolution, the bond between partners is still strong, it's still there. And how they displayed Taichi is irreplaceable to Agumon, just makes me love this episode so much more, the bond between partners is strong, and I love that moment when Angemon came and reminded Agumon who he was fighting for
Yup, this Animation really gives me vibes to the old 80's and 90's detailed hand drawn anime. No (bad) CGI, no simple drawn characters but a amazing drawn animation with detailed characters, fight scenes and environments. I hope this will get a season 2 (I need a high detailed Flamedramon in my life) or even a Tamers reboot.
This episode was sick af. The animation was brilliant & surfaced so much emotional response. Got to say I love the boldness of TK & Tokomon that keeps happening. I would deff agree that the highlight episodes from this new series make me feel that my appeal to it is not just nostalgia driven, and new comers will very much enjoy it as well.
Mugendramon was missing his back cannons. The next episode will focus on Mamemon, who’s evolved form Metalmamemon has the same cannon as Mugendramon back cannons on its arm. We’ll probably see complete Mugendramon soon, which would be awesome.
Seeing Agumon Digivolve into Machinedramon reminded me when I first saw Agumon turn into Skullgreymon back in Adventure 02. That will always disheartened me to see that happen. This now tops it as Agumon Digivolve out of pure rage and fear if loosing Tai. This is something I love with this reboot, finally bring the bond between human and Digimon ever since that discussion the cast had in the original series second and third episodes.
imo many people seems to forget that even the original adventures (+02) had lots of very adult and dark moments. this is one of the main reasons why as a child i picked digimon over pokemon. the alternate universe remake aka 2020 is amazing even if i had to beat myself to watch it because it's now "my digimon adventures". a very great moment and a very great series.
I don’t feel surprised that this reboot included darker and more mature moments than it’s predecesor. The creators of this franchise already know that most of us who grew up watching digimon are young adults so they can get away by creating more dark situations and even more serious dialogue that better fits the current age of the audience that have spent decades follow the development of this franchise. I haven watched a single episode of this new reboot but it seems so cool thanks to this video. Heck I haven’t even watched Kizuna and Tri lol.
Interestingly enough this is similar to what Takato experienced in Tamers after Beelzemon killed Leomon, Juri's partner, he was so enraged and wanted so badly to exterminate Beelzemon he made his digimon evolve right into Megidramon, except that time he wasn't affected by miasma and his digivice broke, also Megidramon kinda put the whole digital world in danger but that's literally his profile.
Ok this episode was epic. Animation surprised me ngl i thought it was just gonna be really good in the end of the episode and not pretty much the whole episode. There are 2 things that i dont like 1. Tokomon summoned a force field and it worked on a ultimate/mega level digimon that didnt make any sense 2. Devimon is really a dissapointment in these 2 last episodes i thought this guy was gonna beat metalgreymon and weregarurumon with his brain or something in his adult/champion and slowly getting angry and stuff and it would make more sense why he would be so mindless in his donedevimon but the build up lead to a dissapointment they couldn't even make his mouth move that are all the things that i didnt like but this episode was solid and wargreymon at the end damn that was cool i love how wargreymon was like machinedramon kinda semi evolved. That are my thoughts about the episode and keep up the good work man.
Seems Tokomon still has access to much of his power from his days as Seraphimon, odds are the more he uses it, the less he'll be able to use it until he reaches Mega. Same for Gato/Tailmon.
This episode once again is themed around HOPE. The moment Takeru n Angemon gave hope to Agumon, his crest once again glows. In the original, Angemon plays a role of the evolution. Few moments later, Tokomon evolve. I love how these moments actually trigger their first evolution. Only in few latest episodes that they started to display the crests constantly n I'm expecting the series to explain them some episodes later. . Also I believe this might not technically be WarGreymon evolution but more of a teasing. They might say that it's a 'mysterious holy light or something'. But if so, we know the format of Digimon episodes, next will be MetalGarurumon then others. If they went with this, other Ultimate(Mega) evolution doesn't feel as hype. P/S: I love the comparison of the cracked moment when MGreymon covered in miasma vs the one where the light comes out.

Actually, it's less about plot armor, and more about the kids lacking the common sense that isn't a good idea to ride your digimon. Back in the original they rarely ride them. In this one, they ride them almost all the time.
Agreed that the overall story is still uneven. When this show is great it is great because of individual episodes, not serial storytelling. When it is good, it's not for the same reasons as previous seasons were good. Adventure 2020 is a shonen battle series starring the Digimon Adventure characters; it's almost not in the same genre as Adventure 1999. When we get episodes like this one, I'm fine with that. My one problem is, based on how the series has been so far, we're probably going to get several episodes with iffy animation and iffy writing before we get another one that hits it out of the park. I'll look forward to it when it does happen, though, whether it's the next episode or ten episodes from now.
I feel the storyline line could be pretty interesting. Its still just the start and the series will have over 60 episodes. They have been dropping many Easter eggs such as this one where metal greymon turns into machindramon and the crystal containing moon millenniummon has also been shown, so This can all be a buildup for zeed millenniummon to show up and also machindramon is required to create zeed millenniummon and most probably the machindramon required to create him could be tai's agumon. I feel there will be lots of og Digimon references that will be thrown in the up comming episodes for a great buildup atleast I hope the series will be that way
As a mad Takeru fan, I’m so glad he’s getting some action that he’s missed out on until now, but still a bit uncomfortable on how this became the Taichi Yamato show.
Machinedramon and Wargreymon were in an incomplete stage, which is why they were glowing instead of the usual form that we see on every Digimon, it means that Agumon technically hasn’t reached mega stage yet, BUT he already reached it probably half stage (?) but he still needs more time, power, character, etc to evolve to either Machinedramon and Wargreymon. Holy smokes, they really stepped it up for Agumon, not to forget Tokomon too! He’s just a baby but he he is still able to summon a bubble strong enough to shield a MEGA level Digimon’s attacks long enough until somebody else steps in to save them. I must say they really amplify Patamon’s line of evolutions powers. The Holy Digimon in this series is just so good, so many powers. He can boost and heal allies, cast light to banish darkness (destroy a castle), empathetically reaches out to Agumon’s inner state, high level defense? I’m starting to wonder what else they’ve got in plans for Angemon / MagnaAngemon. Will Angewomon also have the same kind of powers? This episode was dark but good and that magical girl evolution to Patamon was adorable that it soothes out the grim reality happening. Will Tailmon / Hikari play a role when Weregarurumon does dark digivolution?
I would also point out another detail that makes this "Machinedramon" different from what we know. He's smaller, and lacks the giga cannons he normally has. Perhaps this is a incomplete evolution? Like he could turn into a Machinedramon but is unable to complete the change, something is missing, maybe he lacks the energy or power to do it. Or the data for it is incomplete, let me explain, Machinedramon's body as many other cyborg digimon parts in him. Metalgreymons left arm, Gigadramons right arm and metal head plate, Metaltyranomon's jaw (possibly the body too) Andromon's head is used as the knees. And lastly 2 MetalMamemon cannons for the back guns. Now what do all these digimon have in common besides Metalmamemon?
I agree that this episode is the equivalent to demon slayer episode 19. The score beautifully swelled as agumon cried out for taichi was absolutely astonishing! I love this new series as much as I did the original all of those years ago
True! I struggle with deciding to use the English or Japanese names. If I go with Japanese names, the English only fans say I should use the English names. If I use the English names, the Japanese sub fans say I should use the Japanese names. You can’t win!
@@thedigiknow You could always mention both names on screen like "Machinedramon (Jp. Name: Mugendramon)" as you are talking about it. Although, that will matter more when you are talking about the *Digimon evolution levels* as that can get really confusing between the English/Japanese level names, especially when talking about the *Ultimate Level* which is VERY different between both versions (I personally like the *English* Digimon evolution level names more tho).
I’m probably late to the party, but man I loved this episode. When Yamato was thrown to the ground, I was on the verge of crying, but when Taichi was eaten, my eyes became a waterfall. I felt really sad through most of the episode, but when tokomon and Takeru helped agumon, I had a sense of hope and and was starting to cheer up, but then I got confused as to how Mugendramon/Machinedramon became Wargreymon. But overall, it was an amazing episode, not perfect, but the bad parts are far out weighed by the good. 10/10.

I appreciated that both for Wargreymon and Machinedramon they didn't have Augmon evolve fully into them. Rather they have these glowing energy shells that are hard to make out and only reminiscent of the final form. It gave me a real sense of urgency and a sign that things had gone wild and out of control. It's like the show's saying for Wargreymon this wasn't supposed to happen YET and Machinedramon wasn't supposed to happen AT ALL but the situation was just dire enough to push these boundaries.

Same. I like how evolution feels more earned here. A weakness of the older show is that evolution became munade and mega evolution quickly became stale. Here they almost tease us with the end result which make the eventual evolution more satisfying.
@@kronos1794 the only time I would say the remake rushed and kinda made the evolutions so bullshit was when they remade the OVA into the first arc.... For some reason. Having Greymon and Garurumon INSTANTLY fuse into Omnimon was piss poor.
However, here it showed that the bond between Tai and Agumon is so great that Agumon can push past the limitations placed on the Digimon of the Digidestined, that require certain criteria. Unlike other Agumon, that can eventually evolve into their Mega-evolution fully, Agumon here was a shell, a mere glimpse at his final, strongest form.
I like that. It's a spoiler for new kids, but at the same time not. Since you can't see it fully. It even enhances the bond between Tai and Agumon!
Usually remakes are garbage, and tbh I hate the first arc with Omnimon. But man.. This remake it turning out fantastic. Darker than the original by a mile.
If only Dragonball could have followed in the steps of Digimon.. So sad.

I watched digimon as a child so now that I'm a 27 y.o fan of digimon, I totally agree. 10/10.
When yamato said to takeru "don't mind us, run if thing turns out bad". Taichi knew it's not gonna happen (he glanced towards takeru when yamato said that). Takeru will stay and try to save his brother, putting himself in danger. So to avoid that, he pushed yamato.
But it happened anyway.
That's why he got so mad and lost control.
He's so heroic and so human in this episode. I love it.
The way Takeru desperately running towards his injured brother also so touching. The angle of that scene is just so well-made.
This is darkest episode so far in this season. Agumon's dark evolution is a way better than in 1999. Here, Taichi is closer to Takato and Masaru.
The other thing that's creepy about it is that this dark evolution doesn't seem to be Tai's fault. He starts acting the way he does because he was douched with the miasma juice. So it's likely he was being controlled to some degree.
Visually better, yes. But in terms of construction of the situation, the one in 1999 is better.
Although metalgreymon has a compelling reason for a dark evolution, it still feels like another random power-up in the series, a power-up with no build. On the other hand, in 1999, there was antecedent, development and consequences

I'm just satisfied they gave Metalgreymon much more use in the reboot than they did in the original and him becoming machinedraman was an idea I thought about as a kid, because of their shared arms. Glad it was finally connected. Then breaking out and then becoming wargreymon was a great transition.

A reminder, Millenniummon is created when Machinedramon and Kimeramon fuse. We saw an incomplete Machinedramon today. We might see a Kimeramon in the future. This is the battle against the Millenniummon line.

I really hope they did something more with Machinedramon other than “MaChIneDrAmOn BaD!!! WaRgReYmOn GoOd!!!”. They could tried to learn how to control Machinedramon’s power (More Power, less control compared to WG’s less power, more control?) and as Taichi and Agumon mature, would be able to combine the best of both worlds in the form of BlitzGreymon
Well milleniummon is born with jogress from the data remains of machindramon and kimerimon. We have the data remains of machindramon if we get to see kimeramon in this series then there'se a high chance we get to see milleniummon. Another reference to milleniumon is Eyesmon who is verry similar to Shademon.
@@Zekrom997 Well remember that not only does Blitz Greymon evolve from MetalGreymon Virus, an alternative evolution path, but also that Mugendramon evolves from Skull Greymon. It's very likely that this is what they're intending on happening. Machinedramon potentially is copied from Agumon's data or corrupted by Chimeramon and upon regaining sanity Agumon learns to harness this power and slide digivolve from Mugendramon into Blitz Greymon in a similar fashions to this episode.

This episode was a masterclass and it’s digimon at its very best. The great thing about digimon is that it’s both made for kids and adults however this episode would lean towards more for adults.

The best episode of all Digimon series hands down. I read that DoneDevimon's design was inspired by Venom and Spawn. Venom was always my favorite villain in Spiderman and it's super cool to see his influence in Digimon.
In all honesty, without even reading about it, the design, for me at least, looked like Spawn and Vemon fused into one with some highlights of Myotismon.

I am just surprised by how much more Takeru is being integral to the plot than the OG series, this boy is useful and you get a sense of satisfaction every time he goes out on his own.

It's been almost two months and my jaw still drops when I see DoneDevimon's mouth chomp down on Tai. I don't remember any situation from 01 or 02 ever feeling THIS hopeless or desperate.
The Digimon Our War Game movie did feel pretty desperate to me. The moment of triumph, with both Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon landing attacks at Diablomon, with Brave Heart in the backround, but then Koushirou has to go the bathroom (and Brave Heart gets stuck on Show me your brave heart which i don't remember happening in the anime, clear signal that something was wrong) and Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon miss their attacks and the computer freezes (Brave Heart stops) and Wargreymon stops moving. Then Koushirou comes back and gets mad at Taichi for freezing the computer and fighting with Sora. When we come back at Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon, they are destroyed. And the countdown begins. Diablomon is multiplying and 2 missiles were launched. But Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon don't give up, they will face Diablomon again. After facing imposible odds, and being beaten, the desire for justice of all the people watching the fight forces an innatural, imposible evolution. But even Omegamon isn't able to hit Diablomon until Koushirou sends all those messages at Diablomon's address. It takes the strongest digimon at that point in time and weakening Diablomon in order to achieve victory. Definitely the most desperate struggle.
Piedmon was also pretty desperate since pretty much everyone was beaten by him and turned into a doll until MagnaAngemon showed up.
I am happy to see that adventure 2020 is having a personality if it's own, it's a reboot not a re make , brings something good to the table. I feel the role of the other kids could be developed further.
The reason for the glowing bodies of MAchinedramon and Wargreymon, I believe, may indicate that the transformation was incomplete, and while Wargreymon comes out as a complete digimon, tthe glowing body may indicate that it's missing something, as it's caused by Agumon's desire to save Taichi, and seemed to be independent of the digivice, the same with Machinedramon, considering it's both glowing a hot red color and missing his iconic back cannons, it may indicate that these are incomplete evolutions.
I dread to think what would happen to Agumon if the transformation completed into a complete Machinedramon, could he really come back after that?

The reason for that incomplete Mugendramon because they never meet MetalMamemon, they have no data, but they are going to meet them next episode.

Hearing your appreciation for this episode and show (one of my favorites) really illustrates to me the divide between those of us capable of enjoying Digimon Adventure 2020, and those who apparently hate literally everything about it. I myself enjoy it for what it is; not as good as the original for sure, but also nice for being different and doing some genuinely cool things, warts and all.

@@skip031890 tamers has everything on this episode. this episode wasn't that scary or dark, their have been plenty of digimon seasons where the good digimon goes bad, even tamers did it, but if you think back to tamers with guilmon going evil, jeri being corrupted by the D reaper( that puppet talking by itself is still unnerving) Jeri f*uck up nightmare sequence, jeris evil copy, plus the entire final arc and the imagery used would give any man a sleepless night. I know its easy to get caught up in all the hype and forget what happened in tamers, but trust me tamers is f*cked up in ways this show can only imagine. just wish the fanboys stop overblowing everything out of proportion.

100 percent with you bruh, this episode was dark, and it was for oldschool fan like us, 10/10.
I haven't been watching, but I have been keeping up. The fact that Agumon broke through his rage and darkness to digivolve into something greater was honestly great storytelling, especially when even after 2 massive power-ups in the same fight still wasn't enough. I personally think that going forward, achieving WarGreymon again shouldn't happen for a while. Like let the other kids' Digimon at least achieve some alternative ultimate form like MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon did. Then when the next big-bad shows up, have Agumon digivolve back to WarGreymon out of desperation, but still not be enough, then let it be Gabumon who finally achieves his own Mega form and they struggle to take the villain down, but ultimately succeed.
I think WarGreymon is going to become a normal evolution for two reasons. First, episode 5 made it explicitly clear that we are going to get the Mega forms of at least the first six Digimon (otherwise they wouldn't have shown them). Second, the same episode hinted that there is a named level beyond Mega, which would explain why we saw WarGreymon less than halfway through the series.

As a 23 year old fan of the franchise I loved this episode. It was heartbreaking. I was honestly speechless throughout most of it. It was gorgeous but utterly terrifying. I highly doubt we’ll ever see Matt go through a dark digivolution but I’m so excited on what else there is to come for this series. All I can ask for now is that the kids get their Megas. This show has already checked off all my other boxes

Its been two years since episode 24 premiered, but the dark evolution and the moment where angemon helps agumon snap out of his rage and we see agumon crying as he reaches out to tai still brings tears to my eyes. I think it's the best example of *showing* how much a digimon loves their partner that the franchise has ever done.
And I think that's one of adv 2020's biggest strengths, showing how much the partnerships mean to both human and digimon.
I love what they are doing with Digimon, I really hope it gets a ton of exposure so more people can enjoy this franchise that I love so much.
Best episode in this series like OMG. Donedevimon was like venom + devimon and right after the episode aired, donedevimon got a card for set 4 (great legend) of the digimon TCG with a broken skill 😈

I've been of the opinion that Digimon Adventure 2020 is not just a good digimon anime, but a great anime period since the Alteros form episode.
Yeah, untill this episode i liked it, but it was a lot worse than original in many ways. But this episode is so good.. I hope rest of the show will not dissapoint.

@@blllklbn4055 I like the fighting focus, I think the old one was more budget constrained than anything else. And the character development actually happened when the kids got separated after the final Etemon fight. I think the new one is doing right by taking it slow with the character development. They're making the reboot without ignoring the original, which is the right thing to do.
Digimon Adventure 2020 it's infinitely better than the 1999 digimon adventure anime with the exception of the ost the only thing the adventure 1999 anime is better in is the ost thanks to Koji Wada may he rest in peace

This episode has one of the darkest moments yet. Taichi's Berserker Mode rivals that of Takato's, but Taichi was consumed and Angemon saves Agumon instead.

This episode is my favourite, I think. It's so full of feelings. The moment when MetalGreymon sees Taichi EATEN is so awesome. His eyes go crazy, he runs towards Donedevimon filled with RAGE that is so appreciated, showing the connection between them. Not fully evolved to Machinedramon but still that makes create damage.. and finally how Angemon (with the music on the background!) calming Agumon down, he bursts in tears and "breaks free", then showing silhouette of Wargreymon's form, although that is not completed either. Yet.
And this episode made me appreciate ep 30 where we finally get Wargreymon.
This show has 2 kinds of audience to target. Both new and old audience, so there is no suprise that the battle is more violent in comparison to the original. Thus, this reboot is produced by TOEI, the same studio produced Dragon Ball Super. The action is very excellent in the hand of this studio. I feel like I was watching Dragon Ball Super. I really like what they are doing to the Digimon franchise.

I had no idea there was even a Digimon reboot, but after seeing your preview of sorts, I'm hella interested. I remember Skullgreymon from the original and always wished something more had been done with alternate digivolutions.
I guess I'm one of the very few ones that never even thought about Machinedramon being the next step in MetalGreymons Line... it does make so much sense, that it hurts to not have thought about it
THIS IS HOW IT IS DONE!!!! PERFECT CONCLUSION TO THE DEVIMON ARC! Definitely MUST WATCH episode by every Digimon Fans .... This Episode was Dark, Emotional. Badass and animation wise it was also satisfactory....
1) I really how MetalGreymon put his own fight against DoneDevimon.... it was badass I really love how they utilise Ultimate Forms in this Reboot! They really needed that!
2) Mugendramon/MachineDramon cameo was top notch! It was incomplete because Full MachineDramon requires some other machine digimon parts.... was very interesting detail by the writers again.... if it was in full mode DoneDevimon would be truly ''Done'' in a second... and everyone was a bit disappointed cause we probably won't get SkullGreymon... but now they gave us something even better!!!!
3) At the beginning I was a bit annoyed but now I understand why writers made Tai-Yamato-Takeru separated from the others... the scenes focusing on few characters' efforts/fight make them more intense, meaningful and you feel the struggle.... also I don't like to see just one Digimon is kicking everyone asses at the same time unless it's MAJOR... I mean MAJOR Villain (I love Devimon but it's not Milleniummon).... again very good decision by the Writers!
4) WarGreymon my boi made his entrance! No offence I love Omnimon.... but I love WarGreymon more... I am just so happy what they done with him even with his entrance.... that shows he's not just going to be Omnimon food as I feared....
5) Agumon - Tai Scene.... how Agumon cries.... really made me feel so bad for him... that was a great emotional scene
6) Finally Patamon!
They made Devimon Great! ...this time we really felt like he's a really threatening villain .... first we saw his intelligent then monstrous form.... Great Conclusion to his arc....
Note: I don't expect them to go for Myotismon-VenoMyostismon though since that was very similar to that....

Im pretty sure they are going for Myotismon-MaloMyostismon instead considering Myotismon had two story arcs in original adventure 01/02. so they are probably going with sadistic villain aspect angle with MaloMyostismon if he becomes villain.
IMO they need do MaloMyostismon justice and redeem him after that 02 "defeat".
The whole show has blown away my expectations. From the artwork, to the fight scenes. Even the way they changed the story. I've enjoyed every episode.
I think that if Taichi and Agumon learn how to control the Machinedramon evaluation or learn how to use the Wargreymon going into the last evaluation (from kizuna) it seems like in the reboot toei is trying to get through every evaluation of each digimon

Exactly that was Machinedramon's incomplete form not only his cannons were missing but also his power level clearly was lower. Also he just fought in berserk mode without strategic thinking.... otherwise Donedevimon would be done in few seconds :D :D

yeah but i don't think Infinite Cannon would have helped in the fight honesty because:
A:Donedevimon would just block both of them with his hands making them explode on themselves like he did with tail.
B:Infinite Cannon is really slow attack and needs to charge up and could easily miss its target because Donedevimon is too fast and would stay away from it's range. Infinite Cannon mainly works on opponents that are immovable or very slow. (even you can use this as strategy in digimon world next order when you fight machinedramon)
The only shot it could have worked it is when he had Donedevimon pinned down but it just goes back to DoneDevimon using its arms again to block attack.
but that just my opinion because Infinite Cannon was stopped/disabled by another digimon before in Xro wars and in this fight it would have backfired and do more harm on machinedramon then it does with Donedevimon.

I am a huge Digimon fan from a young childI it is the only anime that stuck with me through the years and as a standalone episode I think it was very good, but I am too old now to be impressed my One Piece fight scenes from 10 years ago and no storytelling or worldbuilding and expending the decades of lore that Digimon has to offer. If it was the remake of Frontier I would be totally fine, but it is Adventure and I am getting tired of waiting for something that simply isn't coming story wise. I am still going to support the season no matter what but it looks like I have to adjust my expectations and I have only vague hope that where will be at least one or two episodes like episode 12, I don’t think we are getting episodes like Mamoru Hosoda’s Home Away From Home episode. I really like your reviews, keep up the good work, yours and the old Billiam’s reviews are beginning to get more interesting than the episodes themselves.
Machinedramon one of my favourite digimon even in tv series or in game.
To be honest, this is also my favourite episode, despite how I didn't supported a Dark Evolution at first, but how this all played out, I just loved it, it's well made. And I love how Metal Greymon felt the Grief in losing Taichi, and the rage at DoneDevimon for eating Taichi, it's like even if there is a Dark Evolution, the bond between partners is still strong, it's still there. And how they displayed Taichi is irreplaceable to Agumon, just makes me love this episode so much more, the bond between partners is strong, and I love that moment when Angemon came and reminded Agumon who he was fighting for

Yup, this Animation really gives me vibes to the old 80's and 90's detailed hand drawn anime. No (bad) CGI, no simple drawn characters but a amazing drawn animation with detailed characters, fight scenes and environments. I hope this will get a season 2 (I need a high detailed Flamedramon in my life) or even a Tamers reboot.

This episode was sick af. The animation was brilliant & surfaced so much emotional response. Got to say I love the boldness of TK & Tokomon that keeps happening. I would deff agree that the highlight episodes from this new series make me feel that my appeal to it is not just nostalgia driven, and new comers will very much enjoy it as well.

Mugendramon was missing his back cannons. The next episode will focus on Mamemon, who’s evolved form Metalmamemon has the same cannon as Mugendramon back cannons on its arm.
We’ll probably see complete Mugendramon soon, which would be awesome.
Seeing Agumon Digivolve into Machinedramon reminded me when I first saw Agumon turn into Skullgreymon back in Adventure 02. That will always disheartened me to see that happen. This now tops it as Agumon Digivolve out of pure rage and fear if loosing Tai. This is something I love with this reboot, finally bring the bond between human and Digimon ever since that discussion the cast had in the original series second and third episodes.
imo many people seems to forget that even the original adventures (+02) had lots of very adult and dark moments. this is one of the main reasons why as a child i picked digimon over pokemon.
the alternate universe remake aka 2020 is amazing even if i had to beat myself to watch it because it's now "my digimon adventures".

I don’t feel surprised that this reboot included darker and more mature moments than it’s predecesor. The creators of this franchise already know that most of us who grew up watching digimon are young adults so they can get away by creating more dark situations and even more serious dialogue that better fits the current age of the audience that have spent decades follow the development of this franchise.
I haven watched a single episode of this new reboot but it seems so cool thanks to this video. Heck I haven’t even watched Kizuna and Tri lol.

Interestingly enough this is similar to what Takato experienced in Tamers after Beelzemon killed Leomon, Juri's partner, he was so enraged and wanted so badly to exterminate Beelzemon he made his digimon evolve right into Megidramon, except that time he wasn't affected by miasma and his digivice broke, also Megidramon kinda put the whole digital world in danger but that's literally his profile.

Ok this episode was epic. Animation surprised me ngl i thought it was just gonna be really good in the end of the episode and not pretty much the whole episode. There are 2 things that i dont like 1. Tokomon summoned a force field and it worked on a ultimate/mega level digimon that didnt make any sense 2. Devimon is really a dissapointment in these 2 last episodes i thought this guy was gonna beat metalgreymon and weregarurumon with his brain or something in his adult/champion and slowly getting angry and stuff and it would make more sense why he would be so mindless in his donedevimon but the build up lead to a dissapointment they couldn't even make his mouth move that are all the things that i didnt like but this episode was solid and wargreymon at the end damn that was cool i love how wargreymon was like machinedramon kinda semi evolved. That are my thoughts about the episode and keep up the good work man.
Seems Tokomon still has access to much of his power from his days as Seraphimon, odds are the more he uses it, the less he'll be able to use it until he reaches Mega. Same for Gato/Tailmon.

This episode once again is themed around HOPE. The moment Takeru n Angemon gave hope to Agumon, his crest once again glows. In the original, Angemon plays a role of the evolution. Few moments later, Tokomon evolve. I love how these moments actually trigger their first evolution. Only in few latest episodes that they started to display the crests constantly n I'm expecting the series to explain them some episodes later.

Also I believe this might not technically be WarGreymon evolution but more of a teasing. They might say that it's a 'mysterious holy light or something'. But if so, we know the format of Digimon episodes, next will be MetalGarurumon then others. If they went with this, other Ultimate(Mega) evolution doesn't feel as hype.
P/S: I love the comparison of the cracked moment when MGreymon covered in miasma vs the one where the light comes out.

Actually, it's less about plot armor, and more about the kids lacking the common sense that isn't a good idea to ride your digimon. Back in the original they rarely ride them. In this one, they ride them almost all the time.

Agreed that the overall story is still uneven. When this show is great it is great because of individual episodes, not serial storytelling. When it is good, it's not for the same reasons as previous seasons were good. Adventure 2020 is a shonen battle series starring the Digimon Adventure characters; it's almost not in the same genre as Adventure 1999. When we get episodes like this one, I'm fine with that. My one problem is, based on how the series has been so far, we're probably going to get several episodes with iffy animation and iffy writing before we get another one that hits it out of the park. I'll look forward to it when it does happen, though, whether it's the next episode or ten episodes from now.
I feel the storyline line could be pretty interesting. Its still just the start and the series will have over 60 episodes. They have been dropping many Easter eggs such as this one where metal greymon turns into machindramon and the crystal containing moon millenniummon has also been shown, so This can all be a buildup for zeed millenniummon to show up and also machindramon is required to create zeed millenniummon and most probably the machindramon required to create him could be tai's agumon.
I feel there will be lots of og Digimon references that will be thrown in the up comming episodes for a great buildup atleast I hope the series will be that way

Machinedramon and Wargreymon were in an incomplete stage, which is why they were glowing instead of the usual form that we see on every Digimon, it means that Agumon technically hasn’t reached mega stage yet, BUT he already reached it probably half stage (?) but he still needs more time, power, character, etc to evolve to either Machinedramon and Wargreymon. Holy smokes, they really stepped it up for Agumon, not to forget Tokomon too! He’s just a baby but he he is still able to summon a bubble strong enough to shield a MEGA level Digimon’s attacks long enough until somebody else steps in to save them. I must say they really amplify Patamon’s line of evolutions powers. The Holy Digimon in this series is just so good, so many powers. He can boost and heal allies, cast light to banish darkness (destroy a castle), empathetically reaches out to Agumon’s inner state, high level defense? I’m starting to wonder what else they’ve got in plans for Angemon / MagnaAngemon. Will Angewomon also have the same kind of powers? This episode was dark but good and that magical girl evolution to Patamon was adorable that it soothes out the grim reality happening. Will Tailmon / Hikari play a role when Weregarurumon does dark digivolution?
I would also point out another detail that makes this "Machinedramon" different from what we know.
He's smaller, and lacks the giga cannons he normally has.
Perhaps this is a incomplete evolution?
Like he could turn into a Machinedramon but is unable to complete the change, something is missing, maybe he lacks the energy or power to do it.
Or the data for it is incomplete, let me explain, Machinedramon's body as many other cyborg digimon parts in him.
Metalgreymons left arm, Gigadramons right arm and metal head plate, Metaltyranomon's jaw (possibly the body too)
Andromon's head is used as the knees.
And lastly 2 MetalMamemon cannons for the back guns.
Now what do all these digimon have in common besides Metalmamemon?

Although, that will matter more when you are talking about the *Digimon evolution levels* as that can get really confusing between the English/Japanese level names, especially when talking about the *Ultimate Level* which is VERY different between both versions (I personally like the *English* Digimon evolution level names more tho).

This was the momment that hooked me to this reboot
I’m probably late to the party, but man I loved this episode. When Yamato was thrown to the ground, I was on the verge of crying, but when Taichi was eaten, my eyes became a waterfall. I felt really sad through most of the episode, but when tokomon and Takeru helped agumon, I had a sense of hope and and was starting to cheer up, but then I got confused as to how Mugendramon/Machinedramon became Wargreymon. But overall, it was an amazing episode, not perfect, but the bad parts are far out weighed by the good. 10/10.
