Good stuff Joe, always entertaining. I heard you mention that you had studied sports science at uni? You could tell us more about that and how it influenced your career and coaching style - in one of your next videos. Cheers :)
Skipper's crew is just elite. That grounding and positive energy from sticking to your roots is so refreshing to see and is clearly bringing the results too. Go smash them in Texas Joe!
@@joeskipper91 one more question, Joe. Do you include strength training as part of your overall fitness training- either in season or during the off season?
As far as questions for future videos, it seems that training approaches / strategies / advice that can be translated to a variety of experience / fitness levels for age group triathletes is always welcome. Great video and good luck at IM Texas!
Literally enjoy every second of these videos, keep pumping them out and I hope to hell you get more subscribers! Bring back your GIANT bowls of mixed nuts and yogurt and granola and fruit and raisins for a Joe Skipper Chefs Series!
Brilliant video & update mate. With all the hype around the Norwegians, Lactate, ketones etc do you just smile & chuckle to yourself? You're in the flatlands of Norfolk training with 2 pensioners (Powerful ones though) and absolutely smashing it even with a wonderful new addition to the family which must have disrupted your normal routines? Just goes to show what consistent hardwork can do. Best of luck this weekend, Norfolk boy will be watching from Bahrain
Yeah it does make me smile to he honest. With regards to lactate I actually brought a lactate monitor in 2018 and was using it for a little while as we had ised it at university when i was doing sports science but ultimately I didn’t find it added anything to my training and found perceived effort and being in touch with how my body feels was much more important and a better guide.
2 Questions 1. What would be the 3 most important tips you would give to an aspiring triathlete? 2. What data do you monitor and track? Has anyone approached you with machine learning/ AI models to help track data for you? Cheers, Wilson from Cumbria
I did your strength and conditioning after you posted the video and just took 2 mins off my Snowdonia half marathon time despite hardly any running 😌. Thank you so much for that video . Single leg squat on a box is for total fucking winners ♥️♥️♥️😌😌☺️♥️♥️♥️😌😌
Awesome Alison, you should contact endurance movement and they could give you a personal plan for your next race. We have an app coming in the future which you will find great as it updates reps and weights as you go, tracks progress etc as well.
Love all the vids! Would be curious to know how you change your training if you’re focusing on 70.3 vs full distance? Is it basically the same but just making the long sessions a lot longer, or do you alter efforts etc too? Give’em hell in Texas!
Good luck in Texas Joe, rooting for you. Any tips on sessions to do on the bike or do you usually just go out with a distance in mind and ride based on how you’re feeling?
@@beeds6 off power on the bike and pace on the run but also taking into account perceived effort but I’ve been training for as long as i can remember now so am very in tune with my body.
Great vid as always. Rooting for you in Texas Joe. Question: how do you manage your training intensity distribution over a build to Ironman? For the Run and Bike intervals do you focus on Race pace intervals or higher intensity with Z4? Best of luck to you and the Powerful Pensioners!!
Kudos to Mark (?) on the bike having to put up with that music for an hour... I'm sure it's not his style ;-) Maybe you can alternate days. Good luck for Texas !
What is the brand of fuel again, can you list it, also here in TX we are suffering badly with allergies, so bring some allergy meds with you have allergies, out counts are high really high.
Given the heat in Texas, how do you think about running in your tri suit vs taking a few seconds longer in transition and switching to an ultra breathable run singlet?
your saddle position seems quite low, you leave alot of knee extension range of motion on the table, where the quads are the strongest - is that calculated in windtunnel/velodrome to be still faster compared the mechanical ease (comparing to more knee flexed position) of pushing watts...?
Who do you envisage racing or beating when your suffering in training or what's your go to thought to get through the hard sessions.Maybe it's a cuppa joe?
QUESTION: As an 'uber' biker would you accept a longer swim, lets say 4km for a 25m draft zone on the bike? I ask because i have seen some recent videos from other uber bikers complaining that they cant drop the weaker bikers because the 12m distance is not enough and they still get an advantage from behind
Nice vid Joe, I'll give you a question 😀. This session gives the impression you have quite a relaxed approach to adding intensity in on the bike. So a few short hills in this case. I would imagine the training benefit is fairly small in the context of a big ride, is it a way of putting some extra fatigue in the legs for the run, or is it more a way of making the ride interesting or something else? Moreover, what is your general philosophy with regards to intensity on the bike and how does it inform the types of sessions you plan?
Its a nice little bit of VO2 max in the middle. Also great for improving top end and being able to surge in a race. The tempo at the end is good to do after this as it simulates riding hard on fatigue similar to how an ironman feels in the last hour of the bike.
Nutrition Question - have you tried Tailwind? Reason I ask is because it has Caffeine and wondering your take on quantity? And what you think of salt content in it? Also wondering if you think it makes you piss more? Caffeine that is 😂 Awesome training BTW .. I’ll be eating Texas live after my bike ride 👍🏽
Norses do th and tempo runs too... you need to work all energy systems all year, there is benefit in mechanic and metabolic efficiency too to run "overpace"
I find longer ironman pace reps add a lot of fatigue for very little fitness benefit and long term end up making you tired and slow. I prefer to do sessions that increase my thresholds and lift my race pace up rather than settling for a long ironman type session which i just feels adds unnecessary fatigue.
Are you finding any limitations to solo training without a coach? Have you always been solo? You clearly have a lot of training knowledge, is that just from years and years of training or were you taught at first?
