I don't know I just went to the auto parts store and had them find me a car wheel bearing my pipe would fit through. Welded the wheel bearing on top my tower and made a small plate so my pole would sit on top. Worked great. The bearing was only $12
I believe the plates are designed for light duty and the 20 or 25 series towers were also sold for TV service or light duty commercial use. I would have liked to have stuck another 9ft section above the hinge but I don't think it would be safe. Thanks for your visit. 73 Leo
Great video....I am facing a similar challenge but it involves adding a rotor to a point on the tower with diagonals (the thrust bearing will go in the top section where there are no diagonals). The supplier of the Rohn plates (which do have the proper holes for the thrust bearing) suggests that it is only necessary to remove the diagonal on one side to get the plate mounted inside. Did you determine that it is indeed necessary to remove all 3 diagonals ? The less of that kind of stuff I can do at 45', the better.
Bob Hawkins Hi Bob, That is right you can angle in the plate with just removing one strut. In my case the top tower section was a cut off peace of a tower section, it was only about 4 feet long. I was trying to keep the amount of tower above the hinge to a workable length so as to minimize the stress at the toward. Thanks for the visit and good luck. 73. Leo
You have to bolt the rotor to the plate. Well it is 10 18 2020 and I am doing it all again ! I got very sick for over a year and sold the farm and moved to a small house in a neighbor hood in Ct. I am hopping to make a new video or 2. 73 leo
@@K1ZEKhope you are still kicking Leo. I’m here again wanting to go up another section. Trying to figure out what kind of mast pipe to use from the rotor out of the top of the tower. Maybe thick walled aluminum? Hope you’re doing ok
@@JayN4GO Hi Jay & Happy New Year. Most DIY hams use Galvanized schedule 40 fence post. It can be bought in 24 ft lengths., the suppliers also sell it in 8, 10ft lengths. It is NOT as strong as seamless drawn aluminum schedule 40 but you don't have to take out a bank lone to buy it. HI HI. Just don't make it to long and or over load it. Thanks for thinking of me and Blessings 73 Leo. K
I couldn't watch it all ! Too much talking ! Did he ever finish ? Lol ! I too have began a tower project, that I don't know if it will be done before the first snow flies ! Doesn't look promising from here ! I think many don't realize how much labor, not to mention expense goes into a tower project ! And like many, when I was young, I could do in a minute, what it now takes me all day to do ! Like my dear old (98 yrs ) Mother says, " It's Hell to get old " ! Which I typically reply, " It beats the alternative " ! "🥴" '73 !

Take a little time and learn how to use the controls built in to the video then you can zip right through it, back up, pause, instead of making whiney little complaints that nobody wants to read.

Hi Leo, been busy and need to catch up on watching videos, nice work, it sure is a lot of work to get it right.
Take care!
I dont understand why you cut out the Z bracing. 😮
Looking good, don't have one but just seeing how you did those plates I agree they will be quite strong.

One pipe from rotor through thrust bearing?
Why in the world would you cut a support strut.
Looks like it will be more than strong enough. I passed my extra exam Saturday morning.
Very good hope you many good contacts and DXing. 73 Leo
very helpful video - I'm about to do the same thing....thanks....wb5evo

My compliment
Can I ask a dumb question. Does the rotor just set onto the plate or do you have to use bolts into the bottom of the rotor

@@K1ZEK Tnx Leo! Yeah I figured most use that for smaller triband yagis. The price of dom galvanized tubing is pretty high too.
Never cut a strut out of a Rohn tower. KW4DX
I guess it is pretty off topic but does anyone know a good site to stream new tv shows online?
@Brody Jeremiah I would suggest FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
@Ford Eden yup, have been using flixzone for months myself =)
@Ford Eden Thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I appreciate it!!
