Thank you for this wonderful upload. I am the world's biggest Oistrakh fan but I have to admit that the young to middle aged Elman (under 55) was his superior. Perlman isn't even in the discussion.
Hard to understand your lack of interest in Elman, certainly one of the outstanding violinists of his time, with a unique tone and great warmth of interpretation. Just goes to show how subjective appreciation of music is! Thanks anyway for uploading these delightful performances!
I must say that it is sliw but with a glowing colour! Of course the best il the Prihoda performance of this piece, but the Elman is so fascinating, so personal, so DIFFERENT...
Hi Thanks for this legendary recording. Elman is one of the many violinists that should not be forgotten. His legendary tone, slides and impulse vibrato leave nothing else to be desired. I really appreciate this. Do you Know where I can find all the recordings of Elman and Kreisler? Please! Thanks!!
The problem is that in this recording the legendary "Elman Tone" is lost. I have a vynil where it is felt( or heard). Check out " Mischa Elman plays Schubert Serenade"- it's closer to the idea though not fully so.
You dont understand the hype behind Elman? Sure he is not the most technically skilled but the sweetness of tone and intimacy he injects into his musicianship is second to none. I would say even addicting.
There are many excellent violinists. But Elman is an ARTIST.
I absolutely adore his performances, his sense of poetry, his sensibility...It's marvelous.
