Honestly, offering a raise after you've given notice because you have a new job isn't going to keep anyone who thinks about it. That's just an excuse to fire you in 3 months when you no longer have the other job lined up.

My boss did nothing when a customer was being racist to me to my face. The customer claimed I was trying to steal the laptops because she didn’t recognize me since I only had been working for 6 months there and she threatened to call the police. When I told my boss, he said well we don’t need her as a customer and then he went back to his work. I didn’t quit at that time because I needed the job but the final straw is that after my coworker quit he started putting everything on me and I couldn’t handle it. He turned off the phones then came in late then proceeded to scream at me at how I can’t do anything right. I quit on the spot and walked out. I have tolerated his as well as customers crap for so long and I couldn’t take the abuse anymore.

My manager told me last week me using my PTO to spend ONE impromptu day with my friends made me unreliable enough that he won’t promote me. I got COVID and came back. My mom who I live with and help got COVID from her job so bad that she had to go to the hospital and had pneumonia so bad she could barely move. Full recovery thankfully, but I came back after that too. I’m going on 2.5 years at this job. And I’m not reliable.

I've had my share of experiences with rude and belittling bosses and it taught me a valuable life lesson: How you choose to treat people directly correlates to who you are as a person. Some people are devoid of happiness or compassion and that is truly sad. But it also stands as a motivator to treat others better than how you were treated. I'm reminded of a scene from Jerry Maguire where Dicky Fox explains how to best achieve success. "The key to any business is personal relationships. If you don't love everybody, you can't sell anybody". Blessings everyone.

I had an experience similar to “Office Space”. I had five supervisors, none of whom had superiority over the other and each worked in different departments. One was the buddy of the boss’ father who had zero experience in my field yet was given the authority to influence the product. They never spoke to one another either. So I had to deal with each of them telling me what I was doing was wrong and required me figuring out a way to satisfy all their demands, which often directly interfered and negated one another. When I brought this to their attention nothing was done to remedy the situation. Later, when I brought this to their direct boss’ attention and nothing was done, I gave my two weeks.
The hilarious part was several of them attempting to guilt me into staying, as if my choice to leave a job that didn’t pay at all well on top of being more stressful and disorganized than it’s worth was my fault. No offers for a raise. No promises to change anything. Just a “you’ll be sorry”

I worked at McDonald's for two years and, not to toot my own horn, was one of the best employees there. After I graduated from college I switched from afternoon shifts, 11 to 6, to opening 4am to 12pm. For 5days a week I would have to get up at 3:30 in order to get to work on time & thanks to my second job I'd often have to work with only 5 or even 3 hours of sleep. This didn't bother me since I am an early bird and a generally energetic person but what did get on my nerves was when the new manager who was supposed to unlock the doors would show up hours late. One time she didn't see show up till 5. This was stressful because there were dozens of task I had to do in order to get the restaurant ready to open-putting dates on food, brewing coffee, etc-& would have to rush to get them done. My breaking point was when one morning this manager called me out to the lobby and in front of all of my coworkers chastised me for asking her to fix orders when I was in the drive thru. You need a manager to do that & it only happened to me once or twice in the shift. When I try to explain this to her she got petty and started personally attacking me. I left & came back 3 hours later to turny uniform in. Best decision ever.

I worked in a 2 man private chef/delivery business and this was just the last straw after 3 years of stressful work and furious phone calls after unreasonable days. My boss told me he would shop for the cooking for the 1 client we had to cook for the following day since I had an emergency come up the night before. Wake up to a message saying he didn't do the shopping so I ask for the menu. He sends me a very vague list with things like "the chicken dish she likes" when that client had received no fewer than 30 different chicken dishes in the past 4 months that she loved, etc. Call him for more details, he sends me to voicemail every time - phone isn't dead, just declining the calls. Shop for the menu as best I can, tell him I have everything, and head to the kitchen. For 5 hours he sent messages every 30 minutes saying "be there in 15" until I was done doing everything myself (we dropped off a weeks worth of cooked food once a week for this client). I loaded up and drove over to drop the food off.
On my way back to do the shopping for the following day I get a call from him screaming at me that the chicken dish was wrong and she was pissed, I told him he sent me 0 details, ignored all my calls, and never showed up to the kitchen. He demanded that the menu was fine, I told him to pull it up and tell me word for word what that chicken dish line alone said, not even mentioning the rest of the "menu" of vague half ideas. He read it, went quiet for 2 seconds, and came back with "You really should have known it was the one you just did for her last week!". He immediately hangs up as I'm halfway through my rebuttal and calls me back 2 minutes later screaming at me again for the same chicken dish being not what she wanted. We go back and forth for about 2 minutes until I said "This shit isn't working, I'm done. Find my replacement." He got really quiet after that, asked if I was sure which I responded to with a firm "yes", and said we would talk about it tomorrow. It took me 3 months after leaving that job to not wake up with my heart going 120bpm coming out of a work nightmare and now, almost a year later, I still have stress triggers when I drive through certain areas of the region I live in.

I was desperate and worked at Jimmie John's when I did medical billing for over 10 years, but couldn't get a job in the field when our office closed. A girl there cussed me out daily and I said something to the night manager. He did nothing. I said something to the franchise owner. Then the night manager and the girl made my life Hell. I knew it would get worse so I finished my duties and left. That place was messed up. A former employee was dating the assistant manager, and her mom was a delivery driver, and step dad the night manager. She would come in often and yell at her BF or parents, and once came in wearing booty shorts and a spaghetti strap tank pajamas and flop flops, walked behind the counter, and made herself a sandwich. She didn't work there. Just, NO

worked in a care home one day a week. (the other 5 days, i worked in a school, having one day off a week). the start of national covid lockdown. got to work and there were no other permanent members of staff. no nurse, no senior carer, no other members of staff but me. this meant that all other staff that day were agency. nothing against them but they don't know residents or routines. having an agency nurse didn't help as she didn't know the residents either. this meant i was the most senior in charge. again, i worked there once a week and anyone who's ever worked in care knows, it changes from day to day. so it had been a week and there were residents who were isolating and on end of life. i didn't know this until i got in. i wasn't qualified or experienced enough to fully know what i was doing. did i get management support? nope. management didn't work weekends.
worst shift ever. and then half an hour before the end of shift, i banged my head on a cupboard which lead to a concussion.
fair to say, i left and never returned.

I had two incidents that made me leave jobs. The first one, the original manager and assistant manager left and were replaced with assholes. They pulled me into the office one day and yelled at me until I cried about how I "wasn't taking my job seriously", all because I had to skip one single shift because I dislocated my toe on the way to work and ended up in the hospital. They told me I should have just sucked it up and come to work anyway, despite the fact that I stood up all day at work, and my foot was so swollen, it wouldn't even fit inside my shoe. They accused me of not caring about the company and so much other stuff that I just found another job.
Then unfortunately I had to leave that next job because they were also assholes, except way worse. They accused me of lying when I tried to call in sick with flu, saying that I had to come in otherwise I'd be fired. I came in, sick as hell, voice completely gone and totally useless. They kinda just went "oh, you really are sick" but then forced me to work the entire shift. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I booked a single day off months in advance, and they "approved" it but then the week before, refused to let me have it, saying that they never really wanted to honour it and that I had no right asking for it off. The reason I wanted it was because my dad, who doesn't live in this country, was flying in for his annual visit. I only see him once a year and we'd planned this way in advance, and my boss knew from the moment the flights were booked. I just told them they could shove it and walked straight out.

My cousin worked as a receiving manager for K-Mart for several years. One day the District Manager (DM) informs him that he will need to cover for the other managers days off do to budget cutbacks and having to let others mangers go. A new manager is brought in and given cousins old job. While training the new guy to do his old job, he is told by him the DM is his dad and that he really doesn't need all of what stuff. Cousin worked filling in for absent management including DMs son. Cousin has to spend the two days covering for DMs son Correcting all of his mistakes. Other managers that had been let go tell cousin of the great jobs they had gotten with Walmart. Cousin quits, gets better money and Alot less stress. K-Mart store closes shortly after that and DMs son is arrested for grand theft from the company.

18:04 I feel this because I had two bosses; one was the owner and the other was the owner's brother. They ran a cafe and could _not_ decide what the best way to run it was: with speed or with precision. I specifically remember being re-taught how to cut an orange. The owner said to cut it carefully through the rind so none of the juice was wasted. The next day his brother took the knife from me and said it needs to be cut fast so we can make the drinks faster, then he stabbed through the orange and squirted juice directly in my left eye.
    Edit: spelling

As we get older and gain more experience and knowledge we can look back and recognize many mistakes that we've made and our employers have made. Most employees (in my long experience) don't bother actively learning about their jobs, their industry, or how business works. When I became an employer (in my forties) I had people apply for jobs and they would say that they were always interested in business. I'd ask them what business classes they took in school . . . none; no bookkeeping, no sales, no marketing, nothing relating to business. I'd ask them if they ever read magazines called Fortune, Forbes, Business Week, Sales Management, Inc., the Harvard Business Review, etc. Blank stares or "none" were the replies. Most thought a living, breathing body was the only requirement for a job. On the other hand the young man who replaced me before I left to start my own business was smart and energetic. I stayed an extra year to help his transition, helped him find an apartment, showed him around the city, introduced him, etc. I wish I could have had him join me in starting my business; he was that good.

I worked at a non-profit that changed officers every 2 years. The one the staff saw the most was in charge of the building and operations. The first one I worked with was an absolute gem. She was in charge during several disasters, such as the pipe bursting during a freeze. Her replacement was a micromanaging narcissist. As soon as she was elected to office, one of my coworkers retired rather than work with her. That left 2 of us doing the work of 3. I was written up for saying "I don't have time for that," when told to learn yet another new task. This woman and the President were thick as thieves and chased away so many volunteers, isolating the staff. By the time they left office, no one wanted to work with them and I filed a 6 page complaint siting harassment and a hostile work environment. I gave my notice and ended up staying 2 more months until I found another job making 20% more with full benefits. My replacement bailed after less than 6 months. The treasurer reached out to me for help. So I have been assisting remotely charging my current hourly rate. It's been over 7 months and they still haven't found a replacement.

I once got a summer job with an awful manager. They constantly moved people to positions they weren't trained in and got upset when the grill cook couldn't run cash or vice-versa. I was planning to quit by the end of the month but the back end of the restaurant also had awful ventilation. I blacked out a bit until someone shook me awake. They told me to step outside and get some air but I figured that minimum wage wasn't worth literally passing out from heat stroke. I just left and didn't come back.

I worked as an after school care teacher for 5 months. My coworkers were covertly racist, and my supervisor would deny to help me despite being new to the job because it was "busy", which meant he was watching youtube videos with one student in an empty room. He would then yell at me for not knowing what to do and would demand to know why I didn't ask. On my last day, as I was leaving, my coworkers found out I had never received the 2 week training at a different center despite that being policy. Upper management had dumped me into the deep end because one was resigning in a week of my arrival. The other left a month after I joined. I can see why they both scrammed.

Had a female manager at Petco reprimand me for not saying, “have a good day” to a man who grabbed my wrist and aggressively demanded my phone number while making gross and lewd comments about my body. I was terrified. This manager, a fellow woman, just watched this happen to a teenage girl, listening to every horrible thing he said, and then yelled at me after he left.
This was also right at the end of lockdown, so people would come in trying to return things they had bought online only to be told they couldn’t get their money back because the return-by date had passed. I 100% agreed it was a stupid policy, but it’s not like I could change it and I was screamed at on an almost hourly basis while also being denied disability accommodations (which is illegal) and having all of my coworkers take lunch at the same time which left me as the only worker during the busiest time of the day. They would also change my schedule without telling me and schedule me for times when I had school, then would yell at me for missing my shifts, even though I had given my class schedule.
Never work at Petco. Never buy anything from Petco. They don’t treat their employees well, and the store I worked at never did the hourly animal well fare checks they were required to do. They also usually don’t know what they’re talking about and will advise customers to buy things that are expensive rather than practical, regardless of the repercussions to the animals- like telling customers “this fish tank would be perfect” when it’s entirely too small and wouldn’t be able to fit a proper filter or heater, but it “looks cool” and is pricey.

I had a micromanager that stressed me out so badly that I had to take doctor-ordered leave. I wouldn't go back until they changed my manager. They gave me a manager who hated white people so much and treated me so badly that my black co-workers were apologizing to me. She was just an awful manager in general, and people were transferring to other departments in droves. I decided to stick it out and stay until the end-of-season layoff because I had a chronic illness and was not planning on coming back if I had to work for her because the stress was unbelieveable.
So the call-back comes, and she's like "you are number one on the call-back list, you need to show up on such-and-such a date" and when I told her I was too sick to work she said "So am I to understand you are refusing to come back to work?" I told her "I CAN'T". She said "So you're refusing" with glee in her voice. Sure, bitch, whatever you want to say. Thank goodness for disability.

Then proceeded to tell me my other co-workers who were always on their phones had complained about me being on mine. I found a new job within two weeks with a 5$ pay increase per hour and full time off the bat. The company was poolzoom based out of San Antonio.

Honestly. This is worth reading. This is when I found out just how "Important" we are when it comes to these big companies and what they expect of us.
I hope (you) dear reader, take the time to read this...
    My lovely wee Mum died.
I had found out she had passed after I had just finished a 14-hour shift for a private medical facility. I got home. Completely exhausted to find my phone and messages on the internet had blown up from all my personal contacts.
(We were not allowed to have our phones in this facility.)
My sisters ... "Mark. You need to contact us. It's Mum."... My nieces and nephews... "Uncle Mark. Contact me as soon as you can". I panicked. It was very late at night. I didn't know who to call. Within an hour of getting home, I found out my mum had died.
I found out she had died on a fucking Facebook post, then I eventually got hold of my elder sister, and she confirmed it. Our Mum was gone.
I contacted my work a wee bit after that because I was due to do a backshift later that day. Told the night staff the basics of the situation and I would not be at work. Then I went to my family.
Later that afternoon, I received a call from work. "Mark. When will you be back at work?" I told them I wasn't sure. Can't think, etc. Told them I'd contact them as soon as I can.
The day after. The staff nurse contacted me. "Where are you? You have missed your shift. " I was just...Silent. I couldn't speak. My other sister (My twin) took my phone from me and just hung up.
After, maybe just over two weeks after my mum had died. I went into my place of work and spoke with my manager. I told her that I wasn't quite ready to return to work.
She said... AND I QUOTE... "This is your job. I know it hurts" She then went into a speel about how one of her relations died, but she still managed to do her job. I wasn't quite sure I believed what I was hearing...
But the next line she said was the clincher, the "cherry on top".(So to speak)
She continued to say... THIS... And honestly, I am quoting what SHE said...NOT what I THINK she said. This really is what she said.
She continued... "The next time someone dies, you need to call the right people. Call me. I might not answer but I'll contact someone who can "
I saw that she saw in my face that she had just said something that disgusted me.
You honestly could've cut the atmosphere in that room with a knife. I've never hated anyone in my life, but I hated that woman at that moment. Just for that moment. I realise now, she was just an idiot with a degree that was in "management" in her first job as a real manager (I had... Have a degree in nursing)
We both just sank into this uncomfortable moment and I told her that I didn't have HER phone number.
I then gave her my notice, told her I'd be leaving just as she was still trying to remove her foot from her mouth.
I walked out of her office. Walked to the Carpark and cried all the way home.
I was good at my job. I loved it. I really, really did care for all my patients to the very best of my ability.
Because of what happened then. I left medical care completely for a few years.
But a few years later? The situation we are all in now?
I really had no choice. I have to work for the idiots again.
But every day. I tell myself... I'm working for you. All of you. I just hope that I can just make it all that wee bit better.
I knew my wee mum was proud of me.
EDIT: I'm sorry. I know my grammar is awful in this post... But sometimes when you remember past things, anger just makes you type (talk) while you are thinking about things that hurt.
    .

Mate, you are what we need in the world. If every doctor walked out right now people would beg for you back, and in 2019 they’d have just sneered. You nurses and doctors deserve the best, along with Janitors and other people working in public service jobs. You all deserve better.

The doctors were all assholes with huge egos dictating what needed to be done, but it was the nurses who understood my pain and comforted me and made me feel so much better.

I wish I could have you as a nurse. i can tell that it's more than just a job to you, you really care for all your patients. I lost both my parents. After my mom I was out for over 2 weeks. The day I come back someone comes in and apologizes for my loss and one tear escaped my eye. Just one. She goes downstairs and tells my boss I had a meltdown. 1 tear that I couldn't contain is not a meltdown. That lady who told on me was always trying to sabotage me anyway. I think she wanted my job. @9:20. That 50% raise is a joke. What the employer is saying, in that case, is "It is inconvenient for us to fire you, so we're gonna throw some money at you and in 3 to 6 months, when it is more convenient for us, noy you, we're going to fire your ass for any silly reason. Why? Because you betrayed us!"

Left my job at a grocery store because my boss kept making comments about my body/nsfw jokes in general. I don't mind a little double entendre here and there, but don't outright make comments about me (a minor at the time) crossdressing in front of everyone, including customers. (Yes, that happened)
Anyway, he's in jail now for inappropriate actions with kids. Awful person, but glad he's no longer at that store terrorizing youngsters.

You can tell a toxic work place when you're in one just like you know you're in a Third World country when you're in one. I've worked at a place over 11 years and it was great for a a lot of years but got worse and worse - a combination of very bad management and crappy replacements. It's shift work and daytime got so toxic I switched to overnights. Other than adjusting my sleep schedule it's been great. That says a lot about daytime work place here.

It wasn't a bad boss it was bad corporate management. They kept taking stuff away and making us do more work. Supposed to take care of a department but was always at the register at the other end of the store.
Then nobody is there to help the customers. No wonder they are going bankrupt now.

All it does it get you more work because they don't want to deal with shitty employees doing it wrong or giving them attitude. But I got the same pay and hours as those shitty employees. Never got a promotion until I stopped giving a fuck. Because why promote someone who is willing to do the most work for the minimal. At least that was their logic. So glad I work for a decent company now.

Have to laugh at the dude at the 15:00 minute mark. “Unfortunately nepotism prevailed and the level of smugness I had to deal with was bad enough, but then they decided to treat me like an idiot child for the next year, rather than the experienced professional I am.” Then proceeds to act like an unprofessional, idiot child. I don’t think nepotism is the reason why you didn’t get the position. I think it’s more of the abrasive entitled mentality. Your colleague probably was a bit more humbled. This isn’t the 80s anymore. Shark tank tactics will not get you anywhere in life.

Greetings I work at a supermarket bakery in Australia known as Woolworths As a qualified baker But I also have a trade certificate in being a pastry chef. Anyway I really did genuinely like my job for the first three and a half years. It was pretty good . Yeah I really did have to bust my butt and the job did have its challenges but you know what? Everyone has Their good days And bad days . I really legitimately so myself working at this place for Years & years .
But that all changed when We had new management Coming in . The messed up thing about The managers at my company is that they're Commission based Depending how much profit they produce for their respective departments They get a bonus . So in other words they are Incentivised To exploit their team members to the max . Which was essentially what was happening to me.
I was coming in early Working through my brakes , And occasionally staying back longer than I had to To do the work to their standards . Because we were Incredibly demorally understaffed . And when you think it couldn't get worse When they did offer us people to our department . There was literally no time scheduled to actually train them So it ended up being more of a hindrance than an actual asset .
My new store manager seem like a nice guy but He was there to do a job . When you're a kid and you see other kids bullying other kids they will disguise it as We're not bullying We are just playing a game It's just a joke you're overreacting . But when you're an adult They will do the exact same thing with the feedback and Constructive criticism . We're not bullying It's just feedback And constructive criticism .You are overreacting
Anyway my fuck it I quit moment was when I was extremely busy Baking things off in the large Industrial ovens And I get called to the office . There were 3 managers and 1 Baker Which was me, Then I got a condescending And intimidating lecture about how they expect more out of me And that I need to step up . At that moment I knew that I had to leave . I finished my shift An hour late I went home and Typed out my resignation notice Put on some office clothing Went back to work and asked my boss for a private professional conversation . And that was when I Handed in my two weeks notice . He constantly persuaded and begged me not to quit But I respectfully declined Because of the fact of the matter is I know I have options there are other places where I can work There is currently a skills shortage of bakers I don't need to look for a job Because I know there are jobs looking for me . If anything he needs me way more than I need him. My fellow Co workers who I get along with congratulated me and said It's sad to see you go but we understand .

They they bitch about not getting paid enough while it is bullshit the new hires make the same as us and get a retention bonus. They are also the reason another good employee left this position and went to another within the company. I also dont give two shits if they or anyone else I work with ever finds this because im tired of this shit, I wont have to do more work if someone else doesnt, ill be able to take time off and not cancel becuase they have a doctors appt. or their vacation,or they call out.
