I made a similar stuffer awhile back. I've learned a couple of things from your version, that I will try out, heating of the copper to make the PVC threads. I had to make my own piston and O-rings for my piston. Piston was a PVC plug, which was lathed down to desired OD. Had to make my own O-rings because I was not able to obtain the desired firmness/softness to obtain a proper piston seal. O-ring was made from black Ace food grade silicone caulk. Made some drawings. Thanks for sharing.

Very cool. With hydro, over pressure will just break the pvc. Pneumatic pressure is where you get
In trouble. That's why high pressure cylinders are "hydro" tested.

Pretty slick idea man. Way to be frugal in this day and age. Thanks for sharing.

Good video, can't wait to build my own. Another way to make the piston is to just cut 5 disks, 3 that are like you said around 96mm and then two that are smaller. Stack alternately and the two smaller ones are the groove. I used this method on a water ram for a different project and it worked great.

I made the same type of stuffer 4 years ago. We made it with water pressure to start, and it was a bloody mess. Water dripping on the floor and exiting the system into a bucket when you are done, carrying buckets of used water out to throw away. We now use a compressor at 10psi and slowly open it. The speed it fills the tube is faster than you can get the sausage stuffed under control. Once the tube goes to the end, we open a vale and let the air our. Quick, and no mess. Some bleeding heart is going to say how dangerous this is, just use some common sense when working in a controlled environment. The tube let's you know when you reached the end, and all you do is kill the pressure. Quick release valve. We crank out 200 lbs. of Polish sausage in about 30 minutes. It takes longer to refill it than it takes to make it. We are in the process of making an 8" diameter tube. 3 feet long, and a floor mount. The sausage comes out the top. This allows for faster refilling and more meat loaded between cycles. we can fit about 13 pounds in the current model. The current model we made is also able to go into the dishwasher for a thorough cleaning after we're done. We also made a ram type loader for pushing the meat all the way to the back of the tube. It eliminates air pockets that form while loading meat. Air is a killer when stuffing. Nice job.

Spot on. First thing I thought of while watching this video was "watery mess". Compressed air is safe if you know what your doing.

I started building this but I came across an issue that might be a problem. I've noticed the male and female connectors are attached on the outside of the pipe and that for the last couple inches on the extruding process the plunger will have an extra 1/4th inch of space between the walls. Is there any way to fix this so it's an air tight fit the whole way through?

Thanks for sharing your experience. Any thoughts on how well compressed air would work instead of water?

How did you cut out the piston circles to that diameter? How did it work? Any leaks

schedule 40 is good for 160 pounds. schedule 80 would be overbuilding. most municipal water pressure is regulated down to below 10 psi so that it doesnt blow the glass out of your hand when you get some drinking water. 4 inch hole saw. will leave a hole in the center. sandwich a layer of semi soft sheet rubber in between and tighten the nut down to adjust the washer thickness to pipe clearance

We need to hang out, great video, I am going to be shopping for supplies, someone said he would never eat food that came in contact with PVC, Hope he processes every thing he eats

Not sure if you realize or not.... What you actually have is 4" foam core pipe. It is physically the same size as 4" schedule 40 PVC but is NOT rated for pressure. You can clearly see this written on the pipe in your video. I just want to make sure the people watching this will get the correct pipe so they don't have sausage and water all over their kitchen.
