- Brown-headed barbet is one of the familiar bird sounds in neighborhood but many would not have spotted the bird. During the breeding season, a continuous kutroo kutroo or kura kura will be heard throughout the day. The birds hide well in Neem, Peepul , Fig trees. With their green color they hide well. So even though everyone heard this bird sound, they are not famous like Kuyil (Koel) Or Crow. But once you hear the sound ,you cannot unhear it. Also, when you hear the sound you realize, oh that's the bird we heard all day :)

This is my most favorite bird sound! Brings back childhood memories goofing around in the afternoons with friends/cousins! 😂

I saw this bird for the very first time today. I’ve heard this sound though, never knew the bird until now. Very cool looking bird.

How can I differentiate it with lineated barbet?

You can't believe what happened to me just before i write this comment. I found a brown headed barbet fallen on the ground but there was no injury on her body but I don't know why she was not try to flew when hold her. I gave her water but she was not drank i gave her mango but she is not try ate. And then I don't what came on my mind i saw her this video you don't believe what happened next she thought that this video is real and she suddenly woke up and desperately to find where the other bird was and suddenly she flew away and all this happened during night.

Kutturuvan bird in local language Malayalam, its different than here in kerala
In Kerala we see White-cheeked barbet. It is comparatively smaller in size. Both these birds' calls sound similar.
