It's a wash stand, and I believe it's missing marble around the parts that are not stained. That's why there's gaps x
yes you need a marble or tile splashback in there
Make sense. It's possible to replace them. You have to go to a marble worker with your mesures and he will do those pieces to replace them (in the same kink and color of marble). You are going to have a perfect chest for men! :)
That’s what I was going to say😁😁. I know this is redundant, as I always say this, I love your style. It is classy, with a historical nod to the château, but with modern flare. It is all class.💗💗
How interesting about that pottery with the blue on it. I use to attend auctions with my sister's and was always drawn to that type of pottery. My ancestors are from the Alcase region and come to find out my kids father's family is from there too.
Agree you had a bowl and jug of water to use.
It’s a bedroom wash stand. It comes forward to protect the front from water as well as making room for the lid. Lovely piece
Historically,
Washstands were always open topped...
Not only because they were in constant use throughout the days and nights,
It also needed constant ventilation from inevitable spillage, etc
Those cats were having a meeting, I’d sleep with one eye open.
Hi guys. Fun finds. Those dogs are living the life. They were all smiles for mama. What on earth were those three kittys looking at. Omg. So hilarious
❤❤❤
They are talking about the 'dumbbell dogs' causing trouble again!😮 We Would Never!😂
I love the last photo on this video, the three cats in the window with divided attention. Thanks for the video. 🎉😊
Amanda I’m giving you both gold standard for sleeping in that bedroom, in my head I thought your master bedroom was already picture perfect. This transformation is going to be Epic.
Yep as someone said, a wash stand. With the inner lining panels missing! Hence the gaps and no staining. The inner panels were probably tiled or mirrored to help with water splashes (same as the marble) and old or smashed so removed :)
Beautiful antiques! I loooove the pottery. Gorgeous! You can get cork or dense foam or rubber and cut tops for the jars to seal them and use them for flour or seeds etc!
That's exactly right. 😊
Exactement. Et on posait une cuvette et un broc sur le marbre pour faire sa toilette. Un meuble très habituel dans les chambres à coucher à l'époque où l'eau courante n'y était pas .
😍The cats look so cute surveying the chateau grounds!!🤗💖
Your wash stand with the marble is superb. The inner missing panels might be replaced with vintage tiles, but you could use a bold wallpaper to enhance how unusual the piece is. If you plan to use the wash stand as a washstand, you might add waterproofing to the wallpaper to add a glossy finish. I applaud your collection of vintage and antique pottery pieces. My wife collects the same for our Medieval kitchen and enjoys the hunt, finding truly valuable but functional rustic ceramic items for a pittance. My wife tells me she has a small crush on your husband and wishes to know if Lincoln has a brother. I find her question highly suspicious 😂, but we will continue watching your vlog as it is, among all the other château channels out there, crafted, entertaining and genuine. Merci Madame.
🤣 Thank you and your wife for watching (no brothers though)
Concerning your special piece of furniture «chest of drawers» first of all, its for men. It's call «commode monsieur» in french (I am French so it's easy for me to explain). This is the place to put grooming accessories for gentlemen, to shave in the morning and take care of hair, etc. You have a mirror to do so. This is the reason why there is a marble tablet. We guess that water is used here. You can then close the drawer and thus cover the accessories. I suspect, however, that this piece of furniture is more of an English-inspired than French-inspired. This piece of furniture is not too old because the shaving foam (done with water and soap) is still more recent. You have found some beautiful pieces of furniture.
Your cats are waiting for their boudoir to be completed! You’ve made a lot of progress on your bedroom. Thank you for all your hard work.
Thank you so much for showing us what treasures you ended up with and not the seemingly “thousands” of hours of video subjecting us to viewing other people’s junk! Much appreciated 🥳
😂
I love window shopping through other people’s videos. I guess not everyone enjoys it.
"Debbie Downer" fabric?! Ha! I love your quirky humour! Whenever I reupholster something (with many years in-between each piece), I'm reminded of how paying someone to do it, is worth every penny!
I love old furniture and I love love pottery! I have an old chiffonier that used to belong to my great grandmother. It's made from silky oak and my mother covered it with horrible laminated woodgrain sticky paper in the 70's!! She then left it in my grandmother's garage for years. When I was living with my grandmother while at University, she asked me if I wanted it and I said yes, but I didn't know what to do with it until I started dating my current husband, who flipped out when he found out it was silky oak, as they no longer harvest this wood in Australia. So if you have any silky oak wood products they are old old. He grumbled at my mother the whole time he carefully peeled the horrible laminate paper off the timber, but it had stained the wood, so to compensate he limed the wood with a pale white paint. It came up so beautifully. It has been a piece of pride and joy for over 40years now, first it was in my dinning room, then my hall way and now back into an open lounge/dinning area. My daughter is eyeing it off for when she has a home. My great grandmother was born in 1900 so I do hope this piece goes on in the family. In Australia we don't have lovely antiques like they do in Europe and Britain. At least the wallpaper peeled off pretty easy on the walls.
Absolutely amazing finds in the furniture department! You both have lovely taste, and each piece is so unique! I love your mixing of different periods of furniture. Your family room is so inviting and cozy!
Wonderful shaving cabinet! Great find.
I'm so digging those chairs. I never considered myself an art deco fan but those chairs and your chandelier changed my mind. I love old furniture, armoires, nightstands. Thanks for sharing your shopping finds, your home, your animals and your life.😻
I really like the chairs as well and what a score at €10 each. I have purchased “French” antiques in the U.S. and they are pricey. I have always been shocked by how inexpensive many antiques are in France. I agreed with you Amanda when you said that many people now just don’t have the space for the large armoires, newer homes are not as large. Also, the younger generations, for the most part, do not want antiques (their grandparents furniture). Brocante shopping is one of my favorite things to do when I visit France, so much fun! You’ve had some good finds!
The wash stand is beautiful. Take out the drawers and run a bar of soap along the underside. It makes the slide easier. Old carpenter trick my grandpa taught me.
It takes good taste, dedication, treasure hunting and ingenuity....You both have it! Thank you for sharing your creativity, love for history and for breathing new life into the Chateau....❤
The piece of furniture is called a "meuble de toilette" 🙂 Quite elaborate, since you can hide the "toilette" part 🙂 You bought very nice pieces of furniture ! Congrats !
I’ve just binged watched all your videos and am thoroughly enjoying following your journey. I really enjoy seeing everything that’s gone on during your week.
As someone who volunteers with rescue animals, I’m loving watching all of your animals living their lives and to see how you’re trying to help all the strays, so many don’t.
I just want to encourage you and tell you how much I look forward to your videos. I find each project fascinating and kudos to you and Lincoln for every one you accomplish. I would be so intimidated but you two take each one on even though you’ve not done things like this before. You guys are amazing! Keep up the good work!
Gee, thanks :)
Here in California, prior to indoor plumbing being installed at our cabin, we called them "dry sinks". A large ceramic bowl was used with a matching water pitcher. The water in the pitcher was changed out every day and the dirty water was hurled out the window and the bowl would be dried out and ready for the next person to use. Hense the term "dry sink" I do believe. Our cabin was built in the high Sierra Nevada mountains, which also had an outhouse. A creek was only a short walk away, so we were also able to use an old-fashioned wringer washer. At the time we had a pack of children up there, so one of our work details was to fetch water when needed. It was the early 60's and a great adventure for little kids like us to be set loose every day to roam free, fish, swim and take long walks during the summer months. Thank you for the flash back memories.
The cabinet had matching marble slabs lining the sides and back of the interior.
Hi, years ago I read a brochure from Sherwin Williams saying that if you had a dark or weird wall to paint a grey color was better to prime with. It would cover a lot better.
That's what I've read too, might try it....
Love the furniture antiques. The marble pullout must be for wash basin and a pitcher. Animals make the home cozy!
You can never have too many antique chests with drawers. I had an older house (not on the scale of a chateux 😂) where the closets were few and small. We used antique chests in the front and back hallways for our winter hats, gloves and scarfs. The bottom drawer held a games like Scrabble, Backgammon and playing cards. Also used an antique wash stand like you have with a marble top in the bathroom. Great for storing toiletries, hair dryer and hand towels. You have a natural way of blending old & new. Can't wait for your master bedroom reveal.
I used to be an antique dealer; Its actually not a washstand, but a gentleman's dressing/toilette chest of some kind, & I think it is Georgian. It's not a washstand originally, though may later have been used for one with the addition of the marble. I do not think the marble is original to it. There may originally have been shallow holes/indentations cut in bottom of that section to hold jars. The other option is it was used for wig powdering. Ihe surround wood which is in a bare state may have been lined with pleated fabric, or simply veneered which was so chipped and damaged it has been removed at some stage.
I'm thinking the little piece you didn't know what it was is a shaving vanity.
You collected some lovely furnishings. I think that is a wash stand and is missing the marble sides. I look forward to seeing how you finish it off. Jewelry storage is an excellent idea!
Your animals have the best life! ❤
I would love to shop the charity shops in France!❤. Great finds 👏👏👏
Great furniture finds!! Can't wait to see what you do in your room and those jugs are amazing!! Love the dogs and the cats sitting in the window....that should be a picture!!
That's what he said : )
Years ago when my parents were renovating a century old home in Canada, my mom painted the walls in the living room black. She had ordered a beautiful black background wall paper and thought the paper might separate in the old house and she didnt want to see any lines between strips. BUt the paper never arrived and we lived with a black living room. Fortunately is was a very bright room and really only two walls were fully black. Love all your brocante finds.
🤣
OMG I really need to move to France just for the furniture bargins. The last time I was in France I was weeping because I knew I would never find anything comparable in Canada comparable to all of the lovely pieces in France. I love your vlog's and I can't wait to see the finished bedroom. It's going to stunning.. You are both very talented and you should be very proud of yourselves. Well done! Cheers...
I think that's part of the reason we moved here 🤣 The furniture!
I am guessing that the antique wallpaper glue was from rendered horse, hence the stench. The essential oil idea was a good one.
I just love good quality furniture! So beautiful! Chandelier is perfect! Praying you both stay in good health. 🙏🏼
Your cats always look so contented. I had a chest of drawers and the top also opend with a mirror not a fancy as you have got, I used it as a dressing table I loved it when closed everything looked tidy.
It will be beautiful, you both deserve a great retreat. Liz
Several people with dogs and chateaus, because there is usually quite a bit of land, have the trackers on the dogs' collars so they can find out where they are with their phone. Might want to think about something like that. Love those kitties! 😘
Those dogs looked guilty and excited.
It looks like it’s missing some marble pieces. A shaving stand? Love the spectator gallery in the bedroom window.
The antique cabinet is a gentlemen's shaving and dressing stand. The velvet or marble lining is missing from around the marble top.
Such pretty and unusual pieces of furniture will look wonderful. The armoires are Gorgeous! You and other chateau owners find the best furniture at these brochantes and Emmaus shops. Love all the pottery too! That Italian chandelier is magnificent. Such fun decorating the chateau❤
Love your finds. Brocantes and charity shops (used clothing and junky stuff) are nonexistent here in Canada so you’re very fortunate to get such beautiful things inexpensively. 😊
I hope your long lost father has arranged for his millions to come to you soon....we must be sisters because I believe that too! lol. I love your purchases ...that piece with the drawers and the marble top...wow! A wash stand makes sense! The settee certainly is worth re-covering. Oh, the pottery jugs are fantastic...good purchase! The cats in the window....perfect closing pic!
Look forward to seeing bedroom progress. What furniture bargains you have acquired. Love them all. I think maybe the chest with the mirror was originally lined at the back and sides, probably with marble to match base and to make it waterproof as would have held a small wash basin. Looks more like a mans washstand as the female ones were prettier with tiles and lower. But it's a great find. You have a good eye. X
I need a house in Europe so I can go brocante shopping. Also, Enzo and Guava look so happy after their run
I think it’s a gentleman’s washstand I think I sore one on downtown abbey, great video❤🇬🇧
Fun brocante finds! Congrats. The bureau with the sliding top is stunning. My best brocante find so far has been an entire set of vintage Le Creuset cookware in mid-century orange for 5€; yes that's five euros for the entire set! I look forward to watching the transformation in the master suite. Cheers-
Wow - that's a great find!
@@OurFrenchChateau Indeed! There was no way I was going to pass it up.
Deff a wash stand. X
I was wondering why those black walls were in the master bedroom.
I laughed about why you thought they were there.
Great furniture finds - especially loved the dark oak piece.
Also loved all the pottery jugs/pots for your future kitchen.
You and Lincoln have done amazing renovations.
Maine USA
Almost looks like a gentleman’s bureau. Super cool and beautiful! Good find!!👌
Love that you are using antiques and unique pieces for your home. Much more interesting than mall stores. ❤
The marble top piece is a commode, ie for washing. Every bedroom used to have one, as well as a small cupboard with a door for the chamber pot.
(the equivalent to our en suite bathrooms).
Often these would have the marble visibly on the top, and a marble surround/splashback and there'd be a matching set in porcelaine on top, a wide bowl with a large pitcher placed inside it.
The pichers would be filled with hot water from the copper water reservoir connected to the iron stove in the kitchen, or filled with cold water and put overnight in cabinets atop fireplaces or woodburners and the servants would bring them in the morning nice abd warm.
This one may be a gentlemans commode. Like a tallboy, but with this space for shaving and shaving utensils. The whole design suggests it.
You could set tiles around the sides, where probably the marble is just missing. Or mirror those pieces too.
Charming!
I like the rustic eartheware! Very classic and nice in a kitchen. Brings alot of warmth to it. I have a few pots for my most used utensils next to the cooker and for my window herb garden. Those mustard pots are lovely for spice storage or serving condiments. You could order kork tops for them.
Love your animals, the dogs look thrilled returning from their escapades! ☺️💕
Love your vlogs, really look forward to each new on.
Your manner of delivery is so calming. Your brocante finds are really neat.
Love from USA.❤️
Love your pottery haul. Those will be great additions to your kitchen 😊
As a vintage dealer deff a wash stand would say a gentleman’s wash stand lovely piece and very useable
Enzo does so well wirh his missing leg he’s a wonder
Love the 3 kitties sitting in the windows !
Need more blogs 🙏🙏🙏😊😊
You will make your bedroom into a lovely retreat, and the memory of the black wall will fade away!!
Enzo n Guava surely enjoyed their running away adventure, they just want it to tell you what they find out there 😂❤❤
Oh my gosh, your water vessels and the other pottery pieces are wonderful. You could never pay that little in the states. The piece of furniture as many have said is a wash stand. If you can find a piece of marble you might be able to glue three pieces of marble around the sides. Love all of your finds at the brocante’s. The photo of the three cats looking out the window is adorable. xx
I would love to know the brand of cat food you use. Your kitties all have the most beautiful coats!!
You have learned so much on renovations and how to do them. Very impressive! The Chateau is simply a stunning estate. It’s wonderful that you are saving this beautiful estate for the future 💕
These cats demand nothing but the best 😂 Good quality wet food!
This piece is a wash stand and mirror is to examine one’s face after shaving
I love pottery and especially the old! I collect Pitchers for many years.. The older the better! As for the smell, I know some paint companies do sell paint with odor killer which could help. The dogs and cats must feel like it's heaven's playground there!
I love your videos! Also love your pottery haul, what bargains you got, well done 👍
On the fold put piece! You should do a fun wallpaper on the inside behind the marble!
You have some great pieces of furniture. Those clay jugs are really nice. One person's trash is another person's treasure. Ooh, that black paint is horrible. I'm glad the essential oil worked. That chandelier will look great up. That setee will be beautiful redone. I love your fur babies. The 3 cats looking out the window was so cute.❤
The pottery is just beautiful. I can flowers inside of them in the bowls you can put decorate with pumpkins. I love that stuff in America that would be more expensive than what you paid for your decorating your château beautifully.🥰
You could use what was the wash stand as a dressing table as it has the mirror. Although it is missing the marble around the edges i am sure it will look great when its stained. Just love seeing all the animals. They are living their best lives.
Hi Amanda and Lincoln, what beautiful furniture you found, I love the pots as well, I can't wait to see how the bedroom turns out. I remember Lincoln working on the Italian glass chandelier, it was a hard and time-consuming project, but so, so worth it, it's beautiful. This was a fun video, thanks for sharing. Love from N.Y.
I agree it’s wash stand and the back and sides are missing the marble. It would have had a wash bowl and pitcher.
The cats at the end - hilarious. Totally judging the dogs. Oh, and the furniture you purchased is beautiful.
It's insane how cheap antique items are in France, have to chuckle when I hear the prices. Folks are correct, its a wash stand. 😊😊
The marble top is for a wash stand. Pitcher with basin to wash up before indoor plumbing.
I really look forward to your videos, they are so interesting. My only complaint is they are too short!
Glad you like them!
I’ve watched about a dozen of your videos (starting from the beginning and watching in order). I love them because they bring back 2 very fond memories. One is of my father who we lost about 2 years ago. In his day, he could fix or build anything! I grew up thinking all men were this way. Sadly, no! But Lincoln reminds me so much of my father, and that makes me happy. The other memory is of our old farm that we had as a second home. It was on old apple orchard on 50 acres. Not the beauty that you have, but wonderful in its own way with the old barns and massive stone fireplace built from rocks gathered from the property. I miss it, but it was too much work for a second property. Now that I’m retired I regret having sold it.
I love your aerial shots-so glad that Lincoln fixed the drone! Your home is lovely and watching your channel is a great way to start the day! Blessings in your endeavors!
Thank you so much for watching, happy to hear your nice memories :)
You picked up some beautiful antiques for steal deals. I love seeing the brocante finds.
Your pets are an absolute delight. Today the dogs were the boys out exploring. The cats were the chatelain overseeing the chateau workings.
😁😺🐶
Lavender supposedly calms kitties too. Too bad I have lost my sense of smell. No, not from Covid. Stuck a crayon up at five which a doctor, thinking it was shoved down my esophagus instead pushed it way up my sinus where it sat for 20 years. Now they are trying to help but it looks like surgery to remove polyps among other issues might help. No guarantees. I had the best smeller too. Knew when litter boxes were not done when I visited my mom. Hubby would say he could take me out far in a woods and I'd smell my way back. Oh well. What neat finds with the antiques! And your scenery pictures could be framed and hung. Gorgeous. I so enjoy finding a video I missed when I binge watched last week. That chandelier was stunning.
Put your crockery on a drying rack because it will absorb the water & weaken them.
Mama we weren't doing anything bad, just chasing pesky invasive wabbits! They're always sneaking about!😊
Maybe tear down the wobbly wall & rebuild it with metal studs plastered over drywall?❤
Beautiful pieces of furniture
Thank you so much 😊
I love old piece of furniture. They are mostly well built but a lot people prefer now ikea or modern style and I believe it’s also more adapted to the reality of the space we have now with the condominium. I have a 1980 Canadian stucco cottage … most people guess from outside it might be a 1950’s cottage but I agreed it’s timeless. I love buying second hand wood furniture. I feel like I am saving them by giving them a new life! It’s so sad when they end in the dumpsters.
Great tip about the the oil. Looking forward to further progress. Great second hand fines.
A cautionary tale-As a long time cat owner I worry about your kitties wearing a collar. I once had a kitty who got her collar caught on a nail & almost chocked to death.😳We rescued her & all turned out okay. Your cats look beautiful & are very lucky to have you as their human mom. 🐈⬛🐈⬛
They are breakaway collars :)
Love the antiques! All the pottery is lovey but I especially like the jugs.
Love the treasures you bought and that chandelier 🤩😍Your dogs 🐶 are so naughty 😂😂😂Wonder if it was a bug the three cats were looking at in deep thought 😹😹😹😹Thanks for sharing 😍😎
The last cabinet would be good in entrance way put hats gloves scarves dish to out keys underneath in the cupboard portion could put baskets for each person slippers or shoes also kids could put book bags in the bottom ! The wash stand would have a large bowl and a water jug to wash up with such a beautiful piece of furniture such good prices ! Thanks for sharing love the window of cats Fun! 🐺🐙😀😍
Love all your newly aquired pieces. Yes it is a bedroom wash stand with B.S. missing in marble. Love everything about your Program no matter what the subjet. Fidel follower.
Great antique finds. Love each piece. Can't wait to see the progression on the. bedroom and dressing room. Thanks so much for sharing.
Adding the essential oil to the steamer is a great tip.
For future wallpaper removal, you can also use downy fabric softener and it also help release the glue 😮😮
I was laughing when you were lecturing your dogs there like children who were caught in the act and the three cats in the window watching thinking oh are those two in trouble time out for them love your video great finds love every piece of
You always make me smile and laugh out loud.. ❤❤❤
Fun video. Love all your purchases. Can’t wait to see how the bedroom turns out.
I love all your wonderful finds! The furniture will be awesome when you get it refurbished how you want! ❤
This is a wash stand. What you need to complete it is a washing set comprizing of a washing bowl, waterjug, soap dish, chamberpot an and it was always made from from porcelaine in the same pattern.
It is a wash stand. Beautiful piece.
The piece of furniture with mirror looks like what is called a gentleman's chest of drawers and maybe in the Empire style.. The concealed marble top with mirror were for washing, shaving etc. It's an amazing piece and looks like it is very good quality. Lucky find!
I concur with wash stand... nice find...actually many nice finds!!!
The market in Dinard has some lovely fabric. 👍🏻
The antiques haul is great. So well-made. Probably not very old but perfect the chateau. You have great taste, the artist in you both.
It was for a wash pitcher and bowl
