So much genius in this movie: casting, staging, and just plain letting the desert, mountains, sea, and sun speak for themselves. An absolute masterpiece.
The conversation between Lawrence and Ali from 5:03 to 5:28 is one of the most significant moments in the film…and contains some of its best acting. They’re discussing one thing aloud, but their eyes are having an entirely more intimate conversation. It’s moments like this that earned O’Toole and Sharif their Oscar nominations. Frankly, they should’ve won.
Yes, that’s how Arabic is written. And I think that's also meant to indicate that the characters in-universe are actually speaking to each other in Arabic, but the actors speak in English for the sake of the audience. The real Lawrence was fluent in Arabic.
Most everyone is on horseback, but O'Toole rides a camel. No mean feat. Check out interviews with him about how difficult this was, about Omar Sharif and O'Toole taking on this challenge.
@@12classics39 same goes for the Arabs and the British if you want to look at it that way... The Ottomans were hardly worse than the others during those times...
I have to say as a Greek the fact that the enemy are the Turks makes it easier to appreciate this movie😂 If I were a Turk it is possible that I wouldn't like it as much
O'Toole tells that he and Sharif (and crew) were concerned about men falling off camels and under horses' hooves during the charge. So they tied themselves into their camels' saddles---and sure enough, Sharif fell off his, so that at the end of the scene he was hanging upside-down under his camel's belly.
I watched a documentary on PBS America recently about how they treated the dead of the civil war. They showed a battle re-enactment and the camera scanned over the corpses.... One of them had an SMLE!!!!! How did that get in there!
Five minutes of Arabs hollering and assaulting .. turkish soldiers only think of turning their machine gun when their enemies are already past them ... great soldiers indeed
Saludos soy Militar uruguayo retirado.
I love the way they slowly pan the camera from left to right & reveal those big cannons. And the sunset scene after that is just magnificent

Liked seeing the detail of clothes drying from a line secured to the huge artillery piece. So practical and realistic.
That’s not a siege. That’s an assault.
in real life they snuck in during the night and took the city with 50 men

Very Informative movie. Ought to be watched by many. There were the Beginnings. Be wise and find out the Great informations introduced here.
an action movie so great that it didnt need ADDHD constant scene switching or the parkinsons cameraman
I bet there wasn’t a Coronation Street pub in the town then!
Oh Anthony Quinn, you're the most Arab looking Mexican actor to ever grace the silver screen.
Wonderful conquest. It was sweet to see the Turks put to shame. Served them right for the six centuries of tyranny they inflicted on their subjects.

The Arabs aren't exactly slouchers themselves.

"Siege"?? What bloody siege? Perhaps you should look up the word "siege" in a dictionary to see what it means? Correct: The Taking of Aqaba
