I remember the first time I worked, there was a guy 4 years younger than me, he was so competent that I was ashamed, he already had his master degree while I was in 2nd year. It hurted my ego to be someone's second, my pride was on the line, so this same pride was what gave me strength to undergo this torture even if I hated it. When you first try to live in japan you fantasize about a young japanese gf and a nice comfortable home life so you can run off to akiharba or other nerdy places with cool games, anime and tech then come home to japanese meal and cereal. But now i managed my expectations and im more open to gaijins because shared interests.
