I remember goin down to beer off with me brother to get mum and nanna some crisps an a soda...I was 4 then... I'm now 65...she never missed it. God Bless mum and nanna.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
“Weasel in specs”. How rude! “Somebody never went to Sunday School”. I love the way Christine checked out the plumber. Wonder if we’ll see more of him? I love how Elsie plucks her chin hair. This is no glamorous soap like Days of Our Lives. This was elements of real life!
@londonlady1966 Most series were in those days. Usually in a half-hour programme they were allowed o ly one "Edit", which meant that at worst only 15 minutes would have to be redone "from the top" if a disaster happened. Early Dr Who was recorded the same way and as the effects were the most difficult aspect of the programme technically, fluffed lines, missed cues and monsters bumping into the cameras were never deemed serious enough to stop and start again. The pre-Emma Peel Avengers were also recorded like this, and the plots would have to be adapted so that the cameras could run from one set to another without crossing paths with other cameras. There is one episode of Corrie on here where the camera doesn't get out of Elsie Tanner's way fast enough and several instances of the microphone bobbing into view. Sorry to ramble on.
Albert's daughter is supposed to be 38, in 1961. She looks old enough to be his wife. In real life, the actress playing Albert's daughter, was only 16 years younger than Jack Howarth.
See the way the mirror in Elsie's is fogged up so only Elsie appears in the mirror other wise the viewers would see the camera man and the rest of the production team 😀😀
When I first saw Betti Albert's daughter in modern day Coranation Street I thought she was perhaps his sister not his daughter. The age they both look around the same age. Like Gail and her Mam Audrey in modern day Coranation Street very little between them age wise. Saying that Gail did look younger than her real age.

Yes i agree - no disrespect to Americans they are fine people but at one point us Brits lapped up seeing how all Americans in soaps ,comedies ,and dramas lived in big houses and were living the dream it was escapism then times changed and it all got a bit too hard to swallow especially when we realised it wasnt how most people were living. It was ok in shows like Dynasty etc but otherwise it all became a bit to much
All true, except Coronation Street is set in a fictional suburb of Manchester, not London. The whole character of show would be different had it been set in London. The warmth and humour is northern, through and through.
Dennis is 22 & still can’t get his own dinner i no in this day in the 60’s men always expected their dinner on table cos they been at work all day so ave the women but no they still gotta cook & clean so glad it’s not like that now well some of us stand our ground & won’t take crap like this!.. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Haha loved the description of old Martha from Ena down to a t.Dont know how Elsie put up with that slimy son useless and a constant taker.Great episode and thanks for showing
Her personality was one of a neurotic woman...look at the way she dealt with conflict and rejection over the years....hysteria and desertion. She always took off or went to pieces after a man dumped her.
There was a gap/lane between the Rover's and No 1. That ment Albert had no window to the left of his house? Infairnes it would make more sence because the Rover's toilet was to the left of No 1. But when Harry and Concepta walked of of them lane they came from the right of No.1 meaning they walked out of Albert's house No.1 😀😀😀
The Rovers exists in another dimension. Beyond the snug is a function room which internally occupies the external space that is the main road down the side of the pub.
No proof, no ID, Christine just trusts this 'plumber', even tho there's no bathroom there, so May couldn't have bought any bathroom furniture! Sounds like a con to me! 1961's Richard Hillman?? He even looks like him!
That's true they did, although Jerry Booth may have put the bathroom in when he lived in the house. I'm not sure exactly when bathrooms were installed but I'm certain that originally those house would have been without bathrooms, hence the outside Loo

Brilliant acting from Elsie and Ena , all in the comfort of the Snug.
The doctor who saw Albert is the same one who saw Ena a while ago ( and won her respect by telling her to ‘shut up.’!
The White Guardian out of Dr Who.
"A certain woman 'oo comes in this snug, and you'll know 'oo I mean when I say she looks like a weasel in specs..." 😂😂😂
Love when Elsie starts talking ‘posh’. 😂😂
To say all of these episodes were live its very well done
You do hear the man at the beginning of the episodes saying "edited copy". These were taped, I believe the first one was aired live.
@londonlady227 They were "As live" meaning that once recording started, it didn't stop unless the set fell down and maybe not even then.
@@gilgameshofuruk4060 Going by that, then most of the episodes and mistakes made in them, they were all like that.

@@gilgameshofuruk4060 Yes I know. Ffs I was born in the 60's.
Ty so much for uploading these episodes great fan from nz here ❤
I miss Uncle Albert !
I remember that way of helping a fire to catch. It was an art form.
Dennis ( to Elsie) “Don’t tell me y’ve started shaving!” 😂😂
Flipping eck she’s a right battleaxe is Ena Sharples 😂

How have Ena and Elsie lived on the same street for so many years yet Ena cannot recognise Elsie’s husband?
And to think Rita married Dennis for a couple of years.
11:40 the fourth wall being broken, still a rarity in the 60's.
20:01 "The doctor can go and jump in the canal"
25.09 Mary from the Royle family.

The UK does kitchen sink grit like no other nation.

Agreed.
To be fair, Corrie has outlasted all but one soap over here - The Archers has been going on the radio 9 years longer than Corrie!
David Barlow was gorgeous
Yep we don't want to make Mr Tatlock poorly.
Oh Lawd - I just realised I know a Minnie Caldwell! Maybe I’m Ena Sharples? I get very sharpish with the silly old moo! 😁
“Yer’ late.”
Flipping’ ‘eck . You’re not Elsie’s dad, Dennis!

Elsi always appears to be rushed and on the brink of hysteria or nervous collapse to me
Rowan Bowyer pretty shocking acting!

10.43 Guess ‘He Man’ just meant muscular man. Pretty sure Masters of the Universe didn’t exist in 1961!
No but Charles Atlas was featured in adverts in most of the magazine's back then. Body building course.
I’ll probably be like Albert if I reach his age!
Harry and Concepta 😂😂😂
Ena was bitter as gawl
What does Ena say after "not ten yards away from me" at 5:00? Sounds like she mentioned Ancoats, but I doubt it...
she says brought up from the cells in hand cuffs
dlamiss legend thanks
10 /10
Dennis gives me the creeps, 🤮
I don’t like this Harry Hewitt character
it's a period drama now lol
Done
What a lovely plumber. Nowadays birds would be scared of a bloke like him. Shame.
A young Robert Onedin I believe.

Looked more like Alan Bradley.
The 'item of bathroom furniture' was a toilet seat. Even if number 13 didn't have a bathroom, there was still the outside loo
The Hardmans had been quite well to do before they came to Coronation Street they might have had one put in
@@derekhorne8076 When Stan and Hilda Ogden were viewing the house, hilda said to stan that the bathroom was lovely? 🙋♀️🇬🇧
