Wow great technology, the first time I remember hearing about a LiDAR system was in a gymbal for videography from a company called DJI and the system when you put the gymbal down, like on a table the LiDAR system would track your face and as you moved the camera would move so you didn’t have to have the gymbal in your hand and it would track your movements.
I can’t wait for this to expand to more and more cars. Visiting family involves long monotonous freeway driving where I can zone out. Not only would this be more convenient as a superior cruise control, it’s reaction time is probably far superior than my own after 8 hours of driving
Yes! They have an algorithm that calculates the probability of you wearing sunglasses. In these cases they actually observe the angle of your head to ensure you're paying attention. Driver could always be sleeping if they could keep their head perfectly straight.
Love the video, but one thing you didn't touch on was supposed you doze off. Will the truck pull over and stop or just shut off where you are or just keep rolling until you hit something
No Kidding? he's asking what the vehicle will do when it loses sight of your eyes. We know bad things generally happen.. but this vehicle does have the potential to pull over and he asked a valid question.
apparently two morons don't understand that you're asking what the vehicle will do if the driver becomes incapacitated. Obviously we know you shouldn't fall asleep or try to drive when drowsy and bad things will happen. It's a perfectly valid question given the capabilities of the truck and the real world scenarios of incapacitated drivers.
Does it ever prompt you to touch the steering wheel or does it just use the cameras to confirm that you're watching instead? The Hyundai/Genesis system is very good but the need to touch the steering wheel can be annoying.
It will easily recognize the motorcycle in front of you, and it should stick to the middle of the lane, leaving enough room for a bike to get by. Would be interesting for future version to know to bias left a touch in California left lanes though.
I would suggest you safely maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road. Then either change the tire or call for help. Should not be driving if you have to ask this.
Do you need to purchase an On-Star subscription for this to work? How much does that cost? Will it work at all with out purchasing the subscription? I hate to have to pay $30 a month for this.
So if you’re not paying attention with your eyes for the required amount of time, does it make an aural warning of any kind? Or just flash the green lights (which you weren’t paying attention with - and would likely not see)? And then if you continue to not pay attention with your eyes, you said it would “shut off”? Would the vehicle then just wander any which way and still maintain your speed? My car will warn you with initially with yellow. Then if you continue to not tend to it, it will use red and a three tone alert. If you don’t tend to it then, the car will apply heavy braking and keep you in your lane (I assume with brake lights, then flashers once you’re stopped - I haven’t tested it to the complete stop in the middle of the interstate). This to me seems way safer than just “shutting off”. I imagine the driver alone on a trip, having a heart attack or major medical issue and the vehicle doing the best it can for the driver safety - not that stopping in the middle of an interstate lane is safe.
"They" say No. So...yes ( but don't worry, you won't be able to access it, they'll deny they do, and it Will be used against you, either directly or indirectly ). ☆
When I was a kid and couldn't wait to get my Drivers license it was because i wanted to be in control of the vehicle. That will never change for me. If i want to travel hands free ill ride a bus.

will it work with blackout sunglasses on?
when the car decides to change lanes by itself, does it automatically turn on the turn signal

Can it make a right or left turn? I'm just curious, because it wasn't covered in the video. Does anyone know the answer? If so much appreciated.
Why would anyone need cruise control when executing a left or right turn?
No, it is simply an enhancement to cruise control.
It's not a Tesla. Tesla's self-driving may be able to do more than super cruise but it's not as good as super cruise and, frankly, less safe.
Does it recognize and respond to posted speed limit, yeild, reduce speed curve ahead, stop signs and traffic signal red, amber and green lights?
