    Gave my baseline spec M1 MBA to my mom and got myself a 15” MBA with 1 TB SSD and 16 GB RAM. Love it! She’s very happy with the M1 and I found my way to slide into a 15” M2. Everyone wins!

      Very much agreed, I am an IOS developer and I have a 2020 macbook pro m1, it has handled everything I wanted to do without any problems, the only thing I miss is a bigger screen, but that rarely happens because I usually have it hooked up to a 24inch display.

    Apple M1 and M2 have changed the game for Apple in a big way. I've never liked Apple computers because of the inefficiency and lack of performance, especially for what they cost. I've always built my own PC. But now, Apple is 180 degrees different, and for the better. I now have an M1 Mac Mini, and a M2 15 inch Macbook Air, and have not regretted either one. I don't see an upgrade for quite some time

    Been using the 2020 base model M1 Air, and I am still in love with it. All the usual productivity stuff, a bit of creative work (davinci, garage band) and also coding (c# using vs code). Couldn’t be happier
    I did have a 14” max with 24 gpu cores which was spectacular for the video work though, especially when using fusion. So I can definitely see why a professional videographer would want the gpu power.

    Chose between base models - 1700$ MBP 16 M1 Pro 16/512 and 1300$ MBA 15 M2 8/256. To be honest, it wasnt too hard to choose MBP 16 M1 Pro: better battery life, faster SSD, better screen, better mics, better speakers and 16gb RAM is so needed in 2023 no matter what you do with your machine. I had the only argument that MBA 15 is slimmer and more portable. And ofc, MBP 16 is a bit heavy, though I got used to its weight after a week. And its slim enough for me!

    As someone with a vision impairment, I got this because it’s nice not having to shell out $2000+ for a bigger screen. Plus I love the new function row key size. I have a Magic Keyboard with my work computer with the larger function row. It took me a while to get used to it, but now the older style keyboard function row and Touch ID feel cramped.

    Very scary question at the end. It needed to be asked. I too got the 16 inch M1 Pro Max when it was announced, and I’m shocked by what Apple has done. They leapt so far ahead in one go, that I don’t see myself upgrading. At all. This machine is a beast and has been flawless from day one. I’m embarrassed to own one 😮. I’m a designer and I can’t make it struggle. It’s game over gents. Anyone who got any of the Apple Silicone laptops or desktops, you’re not upgrading anytime soon. It will be years from now 🫣. God I’m finally content Laptop wise.

    I don’t want to say that I love this laptop.. But it’s true I love this laptop. It’s everything I wanted in the MacBook Air. I remember back in my late 20’s I got the white 13 inch MacBook, it was great. I loved the 13 inch screen. With the exception of my company-issued laptops all of my personal laptops (Windows and Mac) ever since have been 13 inches. Now that I’m in my mid 40’s I hate the 13 inch screens. I share a M1 Air with my teenage and I just don’t like using it because it’s just to small. I held off on buying 13 inch M2 because of the rumors that a 15 inch was coming. I’m really glad I did, I love this laptop. The size of the screen makes all the difference. Having the extra real estate transforms the whole experience. I know this screen is not as good as the MacBook Pro but it’s awesome that I didn’t have to pay for a MacBook pro to get a bigger screen. I picked up the base model and it’s perfectly fine. It’s cool and silent and packs a punch. The battery life is crazy, I don’t know how long it last but it’s definitely several days. I would have liked to get more RAM but I’m one of those folks that is really offended by what Apple changes for RAM. If this was my only machine I would have sprung for the extra RAM. It’s not my main machine so it really doesn’t bother me. If I need to do any real heavy lifting then I use my M1 Studio. My only gripe is I wish they would have put a USB-C port on the right side of the laptop. It would have been nice to be able to charge from either side of the laptop. All in all this is a fantastic laptop and I’d recommend it to almost anyone

    The 15 AIR is such an underdog! The base M2 is so powerful and meets a lot more needs than people think. Not to mention it blows the previous intel chips in the pros out of the water! People assume they need the pro but they really don't M2 can handle SO much. I ditched the 14 inch pro for the 15 inch air and couldn't be happier. I love this form factor so much more!! @JohnXWilson ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you traded a 14inch pro for the 15 air then you didn’t need a 14 inch in the first place…
      The m1 MacBook Pro and air were so good that most people didn’t and don’t need more. I had the M1 Pro until I got the 14 inch m2 and it’s so much better for my workflow, having the 16gb ram and a good display, just everything about the 14inch is perfect for me, plus having the hdmi port is amazing, whenever I used a type c dock, my monitor would flicker, I’m sure if you bought a super expensive dock that be fine but I tried a few cheaper and more expensive ones and still wasn’t great, but the expensive once I got were adapters not docks anyways.

    September 2023 - I'm still rocking the M1 MacBook Air. Larger screen not required because I love the portability, and at home its plugged into my monitor anyway. Base model .... I'd definitely need more storage if I didn't pay for the 2TB storage from iCloud, however the 8GB RAM and faster swap memory than the M2 does me absolutely fine!
    I think if I do upgrade, it will be for the new 13 inch M3 Macbook Air, which I believe is coming with 12GB RAM base model, which is fine. I think I'll probably upgrade the storage to 1TB though, for longevity.
    Big thing I do not like about the 15 inch is you have to rest your hands on the laptop itself to type. Feels weird typing. The keyboard is too far away from the edge.

    Apple should have retained the clean design of the 2019 MacBook Pros while adding 4 or 5 Thunderbolt ports to each side for enhanced productivity and flexibility. I don't find the touchbars beneficial for productivity, so I'm fine with their removal in favor of regular keys. I like the thinner bezels and don't mind the notch. In addition, I believe Apple should have included both Face ID and a fingerprint reader in the MacBook Pros for user flexibility.

    Consider this perspective everyone who takes the time to read this: a device priced at $1000 should not be labeled for the so-called "average consumer" that we in the tech community often refer to. The typical consumer likely has a budget that only extends to a few hundred dollars for technology. Therefore, the MacBook Air should not be termed as an "average consumer" device, and Apple should not market it as such. Instead, they should design functionalities that align with the expectations of a premium device. Utilizing a MacBook Air merely for checking emails and watching TH-cam videos is an underutilization of its capabilities, especially when a Chromebook can handle those tasks just as effectively.

Ppl outside of professions like lawyers, business owners etc prob don’t even need a laptop to even worry about it. I’m not a fan of big screens so, while this MacBook Air 15” looks (and is) great, I’m gonna stick with my Air 13.6” base model - it works great for what I need to do, the “slower” SSD is not slow at all (you will never notice any slowness unless you do 4k or 5k video-editing or run the whole Adobe CC suite on it), despite continuous hours of working on Photoshop it doesn’t even get _warm_ let alone overheat….in short it’s awesome - and if I had to buy a new MacBook I’d go with the Air 13.6” again. 💕

    I have a M1 Pro Max with 64GB RAM from my company for work and I bought a M1 Pro with 1TB/32GB RAM for myself (both 16 inch). I am using both for software development (including VMs and Containers) and both are simply amazing. I can't imagine any other laptop in terms of battery life and noise (fans almost never turn up and the laptop barely ever becomes slightly warm, usually when starting up VMs and compiling enterprise applications).
    The only downside is, that I dislike Apple and its consumer-unfriendly politics. I also generally dislike Apple, but I am no fanboy of companies and therefore use whatever is best and whatever I want to afford.
    So I can imagine this 15" MacBook Air being awesome, too, and am recommending it to the sister of my wife (she asked for a good and solid, yet light and durable (battery-wise) laptop). If only Apple wasn't as bad in terms of repairability, these MacBooks would've been generally a no-brainer.

    I have a Mac Mini M2 with 16GB of RAM at my office. I tried to use an M2 iPad Pro 11" with Magic Keyboard to be my on-the-go device (this was to replace my 2015 Macbook Pro), but wasn't satisfied with the size. I went into my local Apple Store and thought that I was going to get the 12.9" iPad Pro. I decided to go with the base model Macbook Air after seeing the 12.9" with a new keyboard was going to be more expensive than the Air. I realized that the iPad Pro was never going to be the Macbook replacement that I needed it to be. I have been extremely happy with the 15" Air!
    A nice bonus is that Universal Control works better on the Air and Mini vs. the iPad Pro and Mini. The link with the iPad would consistently drop and it happens far less with the Air.

    I got the 14in M1 Pro and don’t see a need to upgrade anytime soon. I feel like it’s more powerful than my actual needs are. I probably would have gotten the 15in air if it was out back then

    7:55 That GF13-017NJII God Gundam decal looks good on the laptop. It definitely is _official_ . 🤣
    I have to say that this MacBook Air is leagues better than my desktop I've been using. It's using a Core i5 6400 and a GTX 720 Ti. 😐Suffice to say, I probably should get a new desktop soon; especially since I'm currently using an iPhone 13 Pro Max and the phone is probably more capable.
    Anyway, if I had to change anything with MacBook devices, it'd be to make it a little more modular so you can at least upgrade the RAM, storage, and replace the battery as needed. I really hate how a lot of Apple made computers have soldered on components that turns it into e-waste and has is so you have to buy a new Apple device by then or pay high repair costs.

    • @brandonchutt312
      @brandonchutt312 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get that now, it called a Samsung galaxy book3 pro, 16in 2880 X 1800 amoled, 120Hz. When Intel releases their EUV process node, it will as efficient as the M3 in terms of power consumption.

    • @cpufrost

      @@brandonchutt312 Two things
      1) It won't be fanless.
      2) It will still have a serious performance drop off when on battery.

    • @brandonchutt312
      @brandonchutt312 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cpufrost The fan is a good thing, your CPU won't throttle after it heats up. The M3 is a 20W processor; that thing needs a fan.
      Also, you can always change the power profile so it doesn't throttle on battery. They reason why they do that is because they want to increase battery life. And that was my point, once Intel implements EUV, Apple will no longer have an advantage in performance per Watt.
      One point I will add of my own ☝️the Samsung galaxy book3 pro has full size ports, not just USB C.

    • @cpufrost
      @cpufrost ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brandonchutt312 Time will tell. My experience with M1/M2 Max has been positive. I do like OLED but miniLED with true tone in real world use is just as good and gets brighter in HDR. I'm not staring at virtual stars on black all day! ;-)
      I do see the fan curves on Intel getting more aggressive towards allowing more heat. Which is better as I should never hear a peep from the fans when surfing the web! I only need a USBC for TB4 my my dock at my desk. Any more is extra and that's fine.

    I dont think many people realize how much smoother the experience is with 120hz. There is no reason the air should be without the option of the increased frame rate. The Air definitely seems like a worthy device, but i think ill wait until apple adds pro-motion to the lineup of macbook Air’s

    Ok serious question here do you all think the factory 8 gig of ram with the M2 chip will be just fine for a basic computer user for web browsing, streaming internet, occasional photo editing? Or is it worth getting the 16gig of ram? Currently I’m using a mid 12 MBP 2.5 intel with a 256 SSD and 16 gig of ram.
