- Tourists who visit the popular seaside town of Lyme Regis have been complaining about the smell of the river. After tests, a lot of sections were very reduced in any type of life. This polluted river water was discharging into the sea where a popular bathing beach is being used by up to 40,000 people a week.

Sad. Disgusting. All beaches should be designated as bathing / swimming beaches. All beaches should be safe for bathing / swimming. Re-designating a beach is not the answer. The government has failed its responsibility to the people.
None of the Government take their beach Holidays in Britain, so who cares?
This is a very real problem in South Africa due to the total collapse of sewerage systems in most of the towns and cities under ANC control.
In fact, it is the rule and not the exemption.

Back beach, it looks like nothing has changed in half a century or more. I recall dodging floating brownies and used balloons there back in the 1970's. I don't think its that bad now but obviously more needs to be done.
