I started wearing this amazing scent in college in the early 80’s. It was my only fragrance for 30 years. I have gone through so many bottles, I have lost count. The Warner bottles were the best fragrance ever made. Every time I purchased a bottle, I would be gifted Polo bags and other gifts (after shave balm, deodorant etc). I still have several of those bags in the classic green canvas to this day. I used the canvas briefcase for my first job out of college in 1984. The satchel bag I have still has the paper surrounding the shoulder strap tucked under the flap, and it looks brand new. I never used it. The scent has definitely changed over the years, and I am fortunate to still have a Cosmair 4oz spray and 8oz splash that I will never use up, because I have so many other fragrances in my collection now. However, when I want to go back in time to the greatest green, leathery, mossy performance beast of my young adulthood, I reach for this classic. I haven’t tried the most recent formulation. I hope, for the sake of this legend, that it is better than what has been offered for the previous few years.

I’m 38. Yesterday I was in a store and tried this BAM! Took me back to my childhood instantly. It reminds me of a strong masculine role model the kind of man you want to grow up to be. Classy, handsome, well to do and popular with the females.

I haven't worn this since the late 70's. A classic that evokes to me both the country club and the disco. Your review was so compelling that I just ordered a bottle of the vintage 1978 aftershave and a new bottle of the current production. Bravo on a great review. So nice to have met you today on Dan's show and to find that you have such a wonderful channel. Bravo.

This was a staple of mine in the 80’s with Aramis Drakkar Lauder for Men. I have gone on a fragrance journey in past 1 1/2 years fell in love with a couple Blues but feel like I’ve come full circle as I am buying Kouros Aramis Drakkar (Lauder is pricey) I will now have to revisit this one , been a long time . Thanks Kellen !

Polo "Green" has been my signature scent since the 1980s and I still love it. Of course, I have used other fragrances over the years just to mix in a little variety, especially during the heat of summer. I have heard some younger fellas (I'm 53) call it an "old man" scent, but I have never heard a female of any age say that. I still get compliments when I wear it and even after all these years I still love it, so I cannot imagine retiring my Polo before that changes. I agree with your summary and since I never rate anything a perfect score I suppose I agree with your ratings as well.

My advice for people interested in this fragrance is to not judge it by how it smells on paper or in the air. In my opinion, it smells really harsh on paper and in the air, but it really smooths out on the skin and it is a nice spicy green scent.

I find Polo Green a bit too musky and "dark green," but I appreciate the complexity and quality of the fragrance. I would love to see this channel review Stetson Sierra. Made in 1993 (and possibly now discontinued), it is like a brighter, toned-down Polo Green that I really enjoyed.

Thank you sir for your review. This product is still on their website , I checked it yesterday. I own the same small sprayer bottle from July 2019(previous one had longer sprayers I believe). I am from India and average temperature here in day time is 25-30 degree centigrade. This perform ok for initial 2 hours than it become skin scent. I even got my bottle replaced in hope of getting better performance. Though everybody is praising its performance, I only get average performance. Anyway, Its smell is so nice that it is extremely worthy to buy. It is unique , green , and will let you stand apart from crowd. About sourness, I get it in this version also. It seems that the sourness is present in few other green fragrances as well like BOGART SIGNATURE. If you get opportunity , try Bogart signature as well.
Another thing, your reviews are unbiased and very genuine, I believe. Thank you sir. Keep it up.

Great job once again !! ..on your vintage bottle is it an EDT or is it Polo Cologne? I have the Cologne version .. same exact bottle but fragrance is very tobacco heavy and a bit sweeter. Truly great . It’s Cosmair as well but I believe a bit older.

Hey Richie, the vintage is a Cosmair edt but the top notes are definitely sour it’s difficult to use the scent since it’s so foul initially, I got it in a bid bundle for the aftershave and aftershave balm, I even asked to make sure and the seller said it was good. Fantastic review, I've really fallen for Polo this year - I've owned it for 2.5 years but it's taken me a while to wear it a lot & appreciate it.
Shame that your vintage has spoiled; I have several older ones which have stood up. My first bottle of it is actually "gone" a little so I was surprised at how fresh another older bottle was, which made me realise that my first bottle had faded somewhat - it goes straight into the rugged dry down
p.s. Modern Reserve ain't that good. I owned it but sold it. It's too modern in feel - that suede note is no match for the leather in the original

If everyone is so stuck on trends and chasing their fruity body wash frags, where does this one stand? Does it die? Hard to imagine. It's my favorite all time. Hands down. Love it love it love it! I did end up getting the new formulation and must say that to me, it's missing quite a bit in the top and mid compared to the original, although the base is still very close. There's just this sourness that I don't remember being in the Cosmair version and the overall blend is kinda thinned out (especially the leather). Don't care though because I still love how it wears and the longevity remains very good. A few of the notes are similar to Vintage from Varvatos but part of it is closer to Quorum imo. Neither are good alternatives, so we'll have to keep an eye out.

Thought I would share this with you: After hearing so much the vintage Polo and how it was so much better than the reformulated version, I decided to order a vial of the vintage. i received it yesterday. I sprayed it on my skin and it brought back memories of my college days back in the late 1980's. I had forgotten, but now realize what that ubiquitous scent was back then. To be honest, I never liked the scent. To me it always smelled like a really fancy cologne that would go bad on everybody's skin. It definitely never inspired me to go out and buy a bottle. The reformulated does smell much different, and I think it smells better than the original, especially when applied on skin and allowed to develop. It is more mellow, and albeit "old mannish" , but does not have the brash harshness of the original. Also, the original just reminds me of all the douchey guys that wore it in college lol.

In the opening of Polo i get a pretty harsh (but nice) juniper berry note, in the heart i note the pine and some rose, when it starts to dry down the leather is very noticeable, and in the drydown i get the tobacco, moss, musk and amber, plus an amazing earthy tone from patchouli i guess.

Hey there brother, greetings from Mexico. Since this is so versatile (Elegant, day / night, dates, office / university, et cetera) do you recommend getting only this (A clone, there is an excellent clone brand here in Mexico that makes this Polo and also makes the next fragances i mention) instead of specific fragances for certain situations? (Such as Chanel Antaeus for elegant night dinner and stuff & Egoiste Platinum, CK One Shock as a warm date frag, etc) I am also really using Paco Rabanne Pour Homme (again a clone from them, copied exactly) a lot... Do you also think PR PH and this Polo Green are similar? I assume the Polo is heavier with the tobacco and stuff and the Paco Rabanne is more refined, less raw... Thank you, and thanks for this review, i am really liking your channel. They say this is an old school animalic tobacco cologne...

First thing I get, was a higher quality version of…Pinaud Clubman. All the reviews talk about how unique the scent is. Honestly most people who like this scent talk about how it makes them nostalgic; either their dad or grandfather wore it or they used to wear it back in high school etc. The sense of smell brings up the most vivid memories so it makes sense that people attach positive emotions to this scent, especially if they are based on emotions and experiences from a long time ago during a period they look back upon fondly. That being said, I really don't like the scent and feel it is extremely outdated. Both Polo Green and Polo Blue just smell like... department store fragrances. Blue smells nice and fresh on the opening but as soon as it dries it literally just smells like scented hair gel. Green also smells better in the opening but when it settles in it's like... one of those musky sprays they sell at the convenience store; the ones that come in the same cans as axe body spray but are somewhat no name and likely to be picked up by older guys or mothers for their teenage sons. A lot of people say these are 'old man' scents and I agree to an extent, but to me they are moreso scents people who don't know much about fragrances would buy. Polo green, imo, is equally at home with the out of touch 50 or 60 year old as well as the 12 or 13 year old who is trying to impress girls for the first time and puts on way too much hair gel, a shitty fake gold necklace and a tacky 'fancy' shirt. Yeah... I wouldn't be caught dead smelling like this. It makes me think of Phil Leotardo from The Sopranos showing up for Christmas in a green sweater.
