- It's almost Swarm Season!
Time to get out and provide some prime real estate for some lucky Honeybees! Today we show you how to bait a Swarm Trap and a Main Hive so you have some good Bee Hotels for the spring. Baiting is very easy and local swarms are the cheapest and easiest way to obtain Honeybees.

These are so informative. You make it look so easy to do and they pass the smell test! 🤣I'm going to keep watching to learn more before I get started myself. Wishing everyone a very successful season! 🐝
Catching swarms is very easy, it just takes patience. 😄
This weather can’t break soon enough. Thanks for all the tips! Watching you inspired me to try Layens. Can’t wait to begin!
Thank you! Let us know how your journey goes!
Will do! 😅
Let's gooo! Watching now.
Dr. Leo owes you a couple free hives for all the advertising. 😁
What I would do for a sponsorship!
Spring swarms are overwintered swarms which are the best swarms.
Good morning, Wes. Mug up from central NH where we got 24" of snow since Friday. It took me 2 seasons before bees moved in to 1 of the 6 swarm traps I had up. It was a late July swarm. That was how I started. Be patient. 1" strips are fragile, Dr. Leo suggested to me to use 3" strips for toughness. Brown's Beef and Bees TH-cam channel has some great swarm trap videos, and he has a great hanging setup too. Have a great day, Brice
That's a cold spot! Glad you caught a swarm.
You can use as much foundation as you wish, we've used the 1" strips for five years now and they've been almost perfect. It's rare that they may fall off the wire but it can happen. Dr. Leo's foundation is not cheap so I try to be conservative with how I use it.
@@SecureAcresNaturalBees I have had foundation slip down on the vertical wire of the Layens frames in swarm traps and nucs in sun exposed boxes. I am going to try to crimp the wires with a crimping tool, then install the foundation to see if that helps. I think it may only a problem in warmer locations and box placements.
I'm hoping to catch a swarm this year so this is very timely!
Good luck! Let us know how you do! 🐝
Great video 👍🙏
Thank you!
Quick note Wes, I caught 9 swarms last year 7 were near a body of water.
That's fantastic! That's almost $2000 worth of Honeybees! But then again swarms are priceless. 🐝
I wish the snow would stop where I’m at I wanna see some bees
Won't be long!
Thank you once again Wes! What about using old frames with brood comb, capped honey and/or nectar on it taken from a dead-out? Thanks!
No problem!
I would just stick with empty comb. Not sure about using brood comb but I would definitely recommend against using comb with Honey on it. You will see lots of Bees but it won't be a swarm, it will be robber Bees! 🍯🐝🐝🐝
Would planting Lemongrass on your property draw in bee swarms?
Without a doubt so long as they had a home to move into. If not then at least your property will smell nice!
stEALING BeES from natuRE! i only used naturalized farm raised weak bees. they are much more likely to grow my Varroa hatchlings!
