I have been watching your videos and I love this boat because it ticks all the box’s for me.
1. Can be sailed solo 2. Light weight 3. Fast 4. Easy to sail 5. Has oars / no need for motor 6. Keel and rudder can be pulled up for shallow water (very important where I sail) 7. Easy to build 8. No need for jib 9. No need for shrouds (looks like mast is free standing) 10. Main is easy to lift / set 11. Easy to right if to turn over 12. Enough storage for day sailing / overnight gear 13. Could be hauled in back of pickup (but I will put on trailer) 14. Easy to repair if something breaks or to modify 15. Low cost sail When I get caught up on my other projects….I am definitely going to build one. I just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the great work.
Those exact reasons led me to build the GIS!! And some guys carry the GIS on a car's roof rack! just build it in Oukume light plywood if you want to do so! 😉
I absolutely love your camera work, inspirational stuff. I also can't believe how easy Forager looks to steer - seems effortless when using your tiller extension.
Thank you very much! Forager balance is quite good, although I set my sail a bit further back and it creates a very noticeable weather helm when on a beam reach or running. But this is what I found works best for me.
@@TheBoatRambler Hope he has fun in it. Must say, with the weather you appear to have I can see the appeal of the open boats though, yours for lightness and the Princesssa for size. In UK weather accommodating changeable weather is a must!
@@TheBoatRambler I grew up in the Lebanon. I don't remember the rain being cold. It is in the UK. (Except in the mountains in the Lebanon where it snows)
Hi! depending where you want to live make sure to research berth availability. Here in the Lisbon area there are hundreds in waiting list for a marina spot! Also there is almost no mooring spots in the coast as the predominant winds make it hard to find sheltered waters.
SALUDOS!!
Hello Pablo!! Congratulations on your decision! Go for it, I waited almost 20 years to for the chance to do it. Never give up!! Building this boat was one of the best things ever!! Cheers! Teo
Wow Teo. When you see Forager up against another boat you can see how fast she is. I am interested in your camera set up. One day could you explain and demonstrate the forward camera and how it tracks of to port and starboard and stays in focus . Thanks gary in Japan.
Hi Gary! Forager is one of the fastest boats around up until 8-10 knots of wind, then, because i sail solo, I need to put a reef in and things get more "equal". Oh, and it smokes every boat when running reef or no reef 😁 As for the camera, I use an Insta 360 camera, then on software it removes the selfie stick. 😉
these are sheltered waters and depending where the wind comes from it might or not form some waves. Some times we get 15kts wind and hardly any whitecaps too... Of course there's still some chop but it's hard to capture on camera. Also as long as the tide and wind go in the same direction it's quite smooth sailing but when it's opposing forces it get's rough quick!
Hi Lou Bob! I don't know what was the fastest that I've sailed her yet but you can see her reefed and still reaching 16kt here: th-cam.com/video/4_CbrWSJb68/w-d-xo.html

Sun-drenched sailing, speed and slick seamanship. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Damo!
👍🏼 классная прогулка!
Я рад за вас!
3 times i have passed the Tagus heading South with no time to dwell. Hope one day to get more time to take a better look around the shallows.
Great weather, nice boat with berths and a covered kitchen!
It was indeed!
Pedro's boat is still not setup for cooking but he'll do it for next season! 😉

Yes our weather is very good for this kind of simple arrangements, only Jan and Feb are quite cold, any other time we can get away with it! 😁

I've bought a Albin Vega 27' to live on, I was thinking of living on Madeira, but mainland Portugal starts to look better.

The Insta360 is quite cool, just a shame it takes me 5 times more time to edit the footage than on my GoPro!! 😅

@@TheBoatRambler otra consulta, el fenólico (plywood) que usaste, qué espesor tiene? Acá el mínimo que hay, por lo que he visto, es de 8mm.-
The plans call for 6mm marine plywood but the one I could find and used for my GIS is 6.5mm waterproof birch plywood.
Beautiful sailing! Amazing video!
Thank you very much Robert! 😉

Great video, beautiful trip!
Glad you enjoyed it
Have you heard of anyone with a GIS installing a steel or weighted dagger board to create a higher righting moment? Thanks.
Not really. Some of the guys use 20l jerrycans secure under the mid seat for ballast in heavy weather.
Just wish I could have been there for a bit of extra ballast, sun sea and a breeze who could ask for more.
I have never sailed my GIS with someone else under these conditions...one day I must try! 💪
Were those gybes or tacking toward the end? Thanks.

From 9:45 onwards it's all gibes.

Is the GIS faster when heeled over or when it’s level?
