  • We need our horse to be paying attention to us when we go to move them. Here’s how I check the horse for that

Your horses WANT to understand you...
The reason I understand is because you try to understand them.
    Beautiful mutual cooperation.

A big welcome to Texas. Mighty glad your now in God's country. With that Kentucky/Tennessee accent you will fit in just fine. The scenery of the hill country of Bandera is mighty beautimous. As always I look forward to your informative videos, and the lessons of life you tell.

Over the years, I've learned to do exactly the same when I'm bringing in a horse from the field, every time, to see where their mind is today and get their mind in the right place as needed. Good to see what I do confirmed by you; I appreciate making your horse experience available to me. I've picked up a lot of good tips to help myself and my horses, and been entertained along the way. Great job.

Excellent point, Dwayne, on going out to horses even when you don't want to catch them so that they learn that many of your visits are not ending up in being caught. Also a good point that you did not feel compelled to have a pocketful of treats to do this. If they get in a habit in you always having treats is the whole herd will crowd you every time you come out. Thanks

Amazing horsemanship partner, you can tell you're a real cowboy because you've been doing this a long time no what you're talking about, and the horses trust you. Really wish I could work with you, best of luck to you stay warm I know it's cold here in Northern Texas I'm pretty sure back home in bandera Texas it's pretty chilly. Stay warm , and stay Cowboy partner.

Dwayne, greetings from a fellow Kentucky transplant. Now in CO. I’d love to hear your take on public land, grazing permits, balancing it all with wildlife management, conservation, etc etc. as anybody who spends more than a vacation out West, you learn quick that it lives on two life bloods. Public lands, and water.

I always figured that if you have time to feed and water a horse, you have time to catch 'em.
I would throw hay over the fence and then position myself between the horse and the hay. They didn't get to eat until I haltered them and lead them to the hay. Then take the halter off and leave 'em alone. Kind of a gimmick but it works.

A handfull of grain will catch a horse faster than chasing a horse around the corral or pasture. I've even used carrots and apples.

@@DryCreekWranglerSchool Not to mention, bribing a horse in a pasture situation, with other horses, challenges the pecking order of those horses, and can get a person hurt and something someone who claims vast experience, should know........Other than an explanation of the reasoning behind what you do,you dont owe anyone anything beyond that..You dont have to defend yourself, from the self appointed internet "Horse Whisperers"for anything you do that works for you and your horse in the real world..Carry on sir..Enjoy your content..
