I just want to tell the whole My Golf Spy team that you all are doing amazing work. And every time I see a new "No Putts Given" episode dropping in my feed, it's like - Yeah, time to hang out with my friends again. So guys, thanks for making my week complete 💯👍
Tony, nice putter! I installed the BGT Stability Tour shaft in my Odyssey O-works Black #7 putter last year. It has a Super Stroke Traxion 3.0 Grip and a 75 gram CounterCore weight installed. Has it worked? YES!!! A story is in order: Well, a couple of months ago, my golf bag fell off of the cart onto cement as we left the clubhouse at the beginning of my round and the weight of the bag landed on the putter in the putter well. The shaft snapped. I was distraught. Immediately following my round I went on EBay to find and buy another Odyssey O-Works Black #7 putter. Then I bought two matching SuperStroke grips with CounterCore weights and two BGT Stability Tour shafts. I now have two putters built with the exact same components. One is my gamer and the other is my back-up and at home practice putter. My playing partners tease me about my non-oscillating putter. But according to my Arccos Stats, I have gained 1.2 strokes per round putting over my last 50 rounds and that is after a similar increase from my previous 50 rounds. One of my buddies just got fitted for a new putter and wouldn’t you know that it magically arrived with the exact same shaft as mine. People have taken notice that there is something to it. I also see that other manufacturers have started to copy the BGT stability shaft. LA Golf, KBS, and the recent changes to the Odyssey Stroke Lab shaft all emphasize stability and stiffness now. Maybe it’s time for a putter shaft head to head review.
What wasn’t pointed out in the discussion about Harry is that he is already multiple standard deviations past normal for driving distance. He has great mechanics AND high swing speed. The human body has a limit so his room for improvement is much smaller than the average person. Olympic weightlifters run into the same issue where in their first years they can increase a lift 25-30 kilos but as they get stronger and more efficient may only see 1-2 kilo improvement each year. You’re in a battle with your biomechanics
Jamie Sadlowski made an interesting observation about the tour. He said that his length was a definite advantage, but ultimately, everyone is the same from 150 in. He had no advantage in close.
Great show! Went to buy a new wood and hybrid and during the testing my current clubs were on their best darn behavior it was crazy. I told the fitter they know I'm abt to replace them so they are acting right today lol lol
7 KIDS.... Seriously can we get a day in the life podcast on that? Can you please inform Tony I'm getting iron covers for my new irons.? Tanks, that'd be great.
Funny, auto ad popped up "Fix your swing in less than 15 swings" lol. Im a bit confused, ive got a Momentus heavy club from 15yrs ago, its shorter and weighs significantly more then a regular club, is this thing doing anything other then warming me up? PS, i do own a Medicus swing aid and I think its helped me immensely, has the medicus still around, seems like a great product but dont see things like it now.
@golfspy Lots of talk about how much adding 20 yards would affect accuracy. How bout a study of how offline (in terms of degrees) on average shots are with a wedge and a driver. When I pull my wedge 10 yards left, well it's only 10 yards offline after a 100 yard shot. But if I hit my driver and it starts on the same line, now Im 30 yards offline on a 300 yard shot. Deceptively, same accuracy. This would be a way to quantify the purely hypothetical argument of how much distance actually affects accuracy.
What's missing from this distance argument is the value speed provides for all shots into the green. If you gain 20 yards off the tee that's a 2 club difference but with that speed gain you will also be 1 club longer with irons so in effect it's a 3 club difference. If you put Rory up against Inbee Park and said he had to hit a 5 iron off every tee to match her driver distance if they had 180y in Rory will be hitting a 9 or 8 iron and inbee will be hitting a 4 or 5 hybrid over 18 holes. Inbee is a good driver but the best lpga driver averages 75% fairways hit I would bet Rory will hit more fairways with his 5 iron than Inbee. This is the reason why you don't really see the stinger or other specialty shots in the lpga and further down the speed chain.
The problem I have is linked to confirmation bias- of course if you hit it further you are going to score better, and confirmed by the data. But what the data cannot show is how a 200 yard hitter ( average golfer 18hc say) is scoring better trying to hit it 220-240. I have great fun telling people they are not hitting it far enough and watch them go every where. I have not seen anyone show on youtube world that show their score has improved because they have hit it further- maybe it will show up more this year- and absolutely no one I play with :-) So what I an hypothesizing and create my own confirmation bias test ;-) is that swing faster only affects a small percentage of golfers who actually have the inclination and physical condition to work on it. Certainly the golfers I play with will score better if they don't have as many penalty shots and lost balls ( awful shots as Brodie calls them)
The question is, is there an optimal distance for you based on your skill and ability. Like if your a 20 handicap should you chase 10 mph or 2 more fairways per round.
10mph almost no doubt, as long as you’re staying in play. If you’re taking penalty strokes off the tee probably not. You’d have to track your SG to know but if you’re keeping it in play I’d take the 10mph every time.
Hey everyone after watching this ep i may have finally realized a few things about my game #1 im a male 155 160 5'8 and for my drives i always swing my driver at 110 120% i have a very high swing speed but was to scared to swing slower because i would shank it top it the whole 9 but im lazers if i swing outa my shoes center of the face most of the time and i think thats because i set up assuming ny arms will extend to the farthest point making it when i swing maxed out my arms only extend so far amd it ends up in the center more because i set up at full extension beaing the middle of the face just my little realization i had hope someone els can use this to help
I feel like distance can help but isn't the king. Their are about 12 gentlemen in my club that drive the ball at max 215 who are laughing at the young bucks driving it 300+ but are still 6 over par. Short game and course management reign supreme
I have no distance and play off 13hc. My friend can hit a bomb, I am jealous of his distance but his hc is 24. It comes down to chipping, putting and course management. I went from cavity to blades and I wish I had them 20 yrs ago. I used to be happy with 100, I now am trying to hit below 80. Accuracy is better than power.
If your not first your last.....oh hell son I was high that day. That doesn't make sense at all. You could be second, third, fourth....hell you can even be fifth
Its not....Viktor Hovland keeps on winning....at 170 mph....similarly Collin also keeps winning. It helps IF you can get it.....BUT if its in the rough or trees it wont matter. The example used wont apply if people are using different tees....long hitters still have to be accurate. Ask us when was the last time Cameron Champ, Bubba, Wolffe or Finau has won? Outliers are DJ and BdC. They can putt. The others cant.
@@JohnnyBagvieGolf I'm aware of Lou Stagners work. I think the length advantage is more hype than anything. Medium and short hitters have always had to have more tools in their arsenal to make up for it.
@@JohnnyBagvieGolf ok. 😄 . I'm saying short hitters have to be MORE exceptional in some other area due to giving up 40 yards off the tee. Not saying long hitters can't (re:TW easiest example, ridiculous short game)
@@LeeTrevinoFans who are they giving up the yards to? They’re only shorting themselves. Adding thirty yards is MORE important for the amateur guy hitting 230 than the pro guy hitting 310.
Why does it seem the LPGA ladies seem to hit a lot more fairways than the men? Are the fairways a lot bigger...is it that a ball going 300+ can't go as straight...is it the tempo of their swing is more under control...? For me I am impressed with the combo of how far and straight the ladies hit it... Watching the men slash and dash is less admirable for me especially when you watch coverage where the men are constantly in the rough. I would like more courses like the Masters where players like Bryson have trouble getting out of jail with his bad shots and it puts them at a huge disadvantage. It is more skillful to hit it far and straight shot than just far in my opinion and the most skilled should have an advantage and win... not some bomber.
The penalty of the rough just isn’t enough to counteract the added benefit of being closer to the hole provided there is a clear approach. And yes, the further you hit the ball the greater the distance offline all other things being equal.
Speed doesn't = distance.. smh.. really fast golf clubs hitting it inch plus off the center doesnt equal distance and therefore the correlation doesnt add up

Miranda is awesome. She fits in great with the guys and transitions through the topics they want to cover. Plus she is pleasant and very nice looking.
Really great distance discussion fellas and Miranda! Fantastic insight and honesty
-Dash Nation!! I have never hit a ball as well as I'm hitting the Left Dash.
I've been using superspeed for a month, and have gained 20 yards with the driver. Also hitting more fairways. Best equipment purchase I've made.
Great show! Went to buy a new wood and hybrid and during the testing my current clubs were on their best darn behavior it was crazy. I told the fitter they know I'm abt to replace them so they are acting right today lol lol
After testing the stack, can you compare all these training aids/programs and let us know which one works best or is worth the $?
Between the Bachelor-driver series and the club chatter, there is some room for an animator to take these ideas to the next level. just sayin
Super speed didn’t work for me but I have a very compact swing. I think it would be great for the long smooth swings out there.
Hey tony which version of the ventus black are you playing 6s,x 7? I’m right with you at 112 driver ss and am torn between the blue or black 6x

smh.. job stability coming sigh
There is no training aid that will overcome the lack of kinematic sequencing in a golf swing.. you won't get major added speed from these things
haha this is a discussion? Ive been teaching for 25 years.. yes speed is waaaaaaaay over rated
I wonder if Spieth is another one who screwed up his game by chasing distance.
