I’m so glad I found this video. I purchased a nice set of pastels at Michael’s, on sale and they’re still packed up, but that’s going to change! 👏👏👏 👩🎨 🎨🖌️🖼️
Thank you for this demonstration. Good video. I understand using pencils on large areas is frustrating g. I have ordered pastels, still waiting for them. Anxious to start using them. This helps ease some of the anxiety. God bless
Hi. Thank you for this video, I have had a set of soft pastels for years, but no idea how to use them! I love my colouring pencils, and now have an urge to play. When using markers in colouring books, rather than tear out the page, I use an A4 cardboard sheet, the back of a pad, or the sheets that are inside a reinforced envelope are perfect, and not only does it protect the page underneath the artwork, it also gives a firmer surface to work with. The beauty is that you're using something that would be considered as waste otherwise. I do enjoy your tutorials, thanks again. 😃
Beautiful page! I love all the bright color. Pastels are wonderful things, I refuse to even touch a Kirby Rosanes page without them anymore, and they definitely make those double spreads of his less frustrating. If you like the look but don't want the mess consider investing in a set of pastel pencils. My favorite brand is stabilo, they're a little pricey but worth every cent in the color range and quality. Whatever their brand though, they let you get into all those little, tiny, places like the tree branches because they sharpen just like a regular colored pencil and your hands stay clean! The other thing I use with mine are makeup q-tips. They come in a few different shapes including pointed and can get right into all of those corners and cut down on that white halo. Happy coloring!
I love this!! The sky turned out very cool, a perfect mottled cloudy day look. And the cotton candy tree is amazing! I use these pastels all the time for backgrounds, and I love them, but have never tried them on a larger scale like this. Such a good idea!
I use pastels a great deal. I recommend a light application of pastel pencil to get into the nooks and crannies. A good tip is to keep a lump of Blue Tac in your left hand...you can use it to clean you fingers, and it's great for cleaning up the edges AND if you make it into a roll and roll it across your page it will substantially lighten whole area. Check it out!
I like how you use cotton swabs for blending. If you have an Ulta Beauty or a Sally's Beauty Supply nearby, they sell swabs for makeup application. These swabs have an oval/flat side and a pointed tip side that you can get into those small spaces!
I love my set on Mungyo pastels. I mainly use them for backgrounds now but I am following ColourandFelt Heather and use lays the pastels down as a base and then goes over them with an aquabrush. So I'm definitely wanting to try both techniques and see how I do. And watching all of the Kerby videos has made me want to finally order more of his books. I was petrified of them when I first started. Now I feel like I could conquer his pages.
What a wonderful idea, I would not have thought of using pastels with colored pencil for definition. I cant wait to try this with my pastels and chalk pencils and colored pencils. This turned out so beautiful! Great video!🤗
Your sky turned out beautifully, the whole picture is so creatively done and it really gave me new ideas. My only question is can you spray the fixative over pencil if you've added your pastels last? Thank you for the great tutorial. 😃
I just lay down a sheet of tissue paper under my page when using soft pastels. This works for keeping it in the book as well. If i want it in the book i trim tissue paper to fit my page and put double sided tape in the crease then place the tissue paper in :) that way it's on the left and keeps the otherside under the tissue paper clean. I also use a small detail paintbrush with a firm bristle for those small spaces.
You finally did it! I love the colors...very different from your usual muted tones. I want to try this technique as I find large open areas intimidating. Thanks so much for a great idea.
Excellent video & flawless finish! Love the tips on using a Q-Tip to apply & blend. I've only ever used stumps & tortillions with my soft pastels. Love being a subscriber! You have improved my coloring so much with your tutorials. Many thanks! : )
Fantastic tip about using the cotton swap to remove to much pastel. I was very intrigued with how you can about this video tutorial. Changing up your normal coloring application style, was it inspired by something you saw, read in a book, boredom? Do you read books for Audible? I think you'd be fantastic at this!
Just...wow! Great job Rachel! Your color combo choices are always spot on. If you can believe it, I am Still working on Brad! I've had to walk away from him so many times because my hands start aching after about 10 minutes😣. And you know how much detail you have to agonize over with these books😥😥. I really love the pastel first idea! How did your hand feel afterwards? I'm betting not as stiff as they would had you used all colored pencils! Anyway...I'm always so impressed by your work. Your cotton candy tree looks just delicious!😙😙
ur picture came out really pretty. do you think its possible to scrape a small amount of a pastel color in the areas you want to color and use a small paint brush and / or long handle eye shadow applicator and kinda 'paint' the color on the page? thank you
great tutorial! A solution to keep your fingers clean would be to use pastel pencils. There are soft ones that go down as easily as the sticks and are great for detail work.
This is beautiful! I am fairly new to coloring and I have never heard of pastels... you've inspired me to give them a try. You were concerned about smudging the pastels when blending in small places and tight edges. I have used pointy cotton swabs in the past and they have worked very well. Thank you for posting!
I love these techniques! I especially love the way those hills look. I need to try this. I see in your description that you are using both oil and wax colored pencils over the soft pastels. Does it make a difference? If so, what's the difference? Thanks!
Thanks for this video! I have also mungyo pastel but I don't know if it is okay with color pencils..very helpful! 😊 What kind of paper is good for pastel?
Hi, I'm having a difficult time locating the Grumbacher workable matte fixative; however, I have found the same type made by Krylon. Do you think there is much of a difference between the two? Thanks!
OK Yes! My heart went in a panic when I glanced at the title of your video!! I thought NOOOOO SHE CAN'T BE LEAVING!!! I have been watching your videos for about 3 years now (especially loved your obsession with The Romantic Country books) I'm not one to comment on videos very much, although I should, it seems that I get so engrossed in the video I just forget! Thank you for all that you have taught me and the encouragement to start my own colortube streaming channel!! I will continue watching quietly behind the big tall guy learning all I can! Again, Thank you, Rachel!!
Hello and thank you! I dint even realize that’s what people would get out of the title, I’ll have to revise it!! Nope, you’re stuck me 😋 thanks so much for being such a long time watcher @canjun sunshine crafts

What a big help this is indeed! For the large backgrounds!!!💁🏼♀️ And that I can use my pencils on top of the fixative, just fantastic!!👍👍 Thanks!😊🌸

Ooooohhhh thanks!!!! I’m definitely going to check out those pencils
@@PencilStash please do and get informed how to sharpen them.. the can ruin your sharpener! So reserve I separate one.

I really like that & will definitely try this technique. Love your videos

Ooh this is really pretty! I love the tree and the sky, and the tiny trees by the water. So amazing!
Muito lindo seu trabalho. Gostei do seu tutorial c várias técnicas para colorir. Obrigada por compartilhar 😍😊❤️
Thanks for this video! I have also mungyo pastel but I don't know if it is okay with color pencils..very helpful! 😊 What kind of paper is good for pastel?
Messy but do an exceptional job! I am buying a set of pencils to add to my Mungyos!
Wow turned out wonderfully!
What a great idea & it turned out so well. Sometimes, I just feel overwhelmed by large areas and this is a good answer for that!
This turned out very nice!
Beautiful. Pastels scare me. Thats why I enjoy someone doing them. I enjoyed this video very much. Thank you. Take care
Between the Sea Serpent and this beautiful page, I’m really loving your channel again! Thank you, for the inspiration! 💕💕
Love this technique, thanks so much!
Just fabulous. I'm a happy coward when it comes to this sort of thing. Thank you..

Are these colorsheets made on pastelpaper? In normal
Draw paper pastel doesnt hold
Enjoyed immensely!! 😍 thank you!!
Do you have to spray a fixative to fix the pastel?
Thats a really good idea, thanks for sharing 😊
I'm saving for the soft pastels. Loved the video
Very nice 💝
I just love watching other artists draw while drawing myself at the same time. It's so relaxing 😌
Great video
WOW!!! is all I can say!

Tip: q tips also come in a point to help with your white halo
You'd like pastel pencils or pan pastels
What a beautiful pucture
Nope, I think they are too....challenging for me. I'm an admitted slob. If a mess can be made, I'll be making it.
Does this mean that this the last vid we're going to get then?
Uh oh, did I say something to that effect?? Certainly didn’t mean to! Nope, I’m still up for weekly videos. TH-cam is stuck with me 🤣
@@PencilStash ohh great that's a relief the title frightened me a little making me think you were leaving, thanks Rachel
You could use pastel pencils they are more clean and have a nice tip.
And use an old newspaper for the environment ;)
Use surgical gloves when working with pastels, and change often as they get messy.
Superior!
wrong color Poska. I think it would better if it was brown.
Love learning... too much verbiage. Just saying, not hatin.
