  • Join experimental archaeologist, Dr. James Dilley, for #KnapTime to learn how to thin down flint for finer tools. Thinning in the Flintknapping process is one of the trickier aspects to learn. There is a greater requirement for understanding the fracture mechanics and edge angles. James shows how to approach a nodule with the first hammerstone flakes before demonstrating how best to use soft hammers. Typically antler, soft hammers can be used for fine flaking, but require an experienced hand to work most effectively.
