I made the same hike with same guide back in 96. That river you cross is so clean you can drink from it, tastes sweet and so good. Me and my Seabee brothers(NMCB-7)
Hiked it twice, once as a little girl, second time in 97, both time from Georgetown, if I get another chance I will try Richmond next time. Thanks for sharing your hike up there, very nice.
Thanks for the post. I hiked it while at Kingston Medical College with Dr Baer and a few others. Inside the crater was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. There really is something mystical there.
this is really amazing.you must have soul to really take in the beauty of this hike.i hiked from the windward side twice but never got the chance to go down in the crater.you should also check out the "old" volcano.breath taking.got pics of that from my last hike.peace to all.1 love
Done this over year ago starting from East (Dry River) to West (Richmond Bay).Had to walk from Georgetown and hike all the way to Richmond.Departed Riverbed 7:am and reach Richmond 11:30am, all by myself
Back in the spring of 1980 I hiked to the top of La Soufriere with two friends: Vaughn Townsend, a student of St. George's University, and Marty Kane, a friend of his from college in the U.S. As we neared the summit there was no vegetation. It was like moonscape; covered with coarse, grey lava stone; fairly firm but like gravel. There were clouds over La Soufriere that day, so all around us at that elevation were clouds that would envelope us occasionally, like dense fog, and obscure vision beyond a few feet. Hiking/climbing briskly toward the summit, about 50 yards ahead of the other two, something made me pause. As I stood still, the clouds broke for a moment, enough that I could see across the expanse of the crater. To my utter astonishment I realized I was standing at the edge; two more steps and I would have gone over, down the steep wall of the crater to the bottom. To this day I do not know what made me pause, but I owe my life to it.
The same thing had happen to me in 1989.will never forget that moment .went up there with my aunty Aunty Rosy from fitzhuges/ chateaubelair.along with lots of other friends.my brother ruff/orvil Samuel was spending the Easter weekend at our late grand mother ,Beatrice Gills.
ohhh I love this place, was there in march 2013 with my family and friends, didnt get to go into the crater, but next time I visit WE will be going into it..
Was very grateful to be Franklin's 332nd hike as of yesterday. Definitely one for the books and one to be remembered for a very long time. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a challenge. Amazing views from the top!!! A huge thank you to Barry P for accepting this challenge with me.
This is quite the hike, not for someone who is out of shape! We had to go through a stream at the bottom to go to the trail, not fun. Any way around that?

Wonder if he stops half-way up to fire up a spliff....... ;)
