Great Idea. The only thing I'm doing different, is using a hole saw, slightly bigger than the rollers, and mounting them from the bottom so the rollers just poke over the top of the wood. It would save about an inch in height. Great idea though.
OMG thank you thank you. You just saved me over one thousand dollars PLUS with the slide I was about to purchase I lost an additional three inches in height. YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
I went to dollar tree and bought a pool noodle, cut it to size, slit it and put it on the end of my slide so it fits nice and snug against my tail gate.
Great idea. Made mine today. Super simple compared to the ridiculous idea I had in my head. Have some finishing touches to add in future but got the main component installed and works great. Thanks!!
Man - I star ted counting as soon as you said you had thirteen of the rollers in there... just in time for you to call us all out and tell us to count them ourselves lmao. Perfect!
Very cool. I have been looking at videos on truck bed sliders. Your plan makes so much sense and seems to be alot cheaper than those 500 lb drawer slide. Great job. Thanks for sharing.
YEARS AGO, I think in 80's maybe. Might have been the 90's I stopped by an Rv dealer and he had a truck camper on a pickup for sale. As I recall the camper was a NorthStar. I think. The camper was MONSTEROUS 13ft sitting on an 8ft dually truck bed. One thing I noticed was this camper had a pullout drawer under the camper floor. It appeared to be part of the camper but I learned later like yours it can be added. When I bought a truck camper in 2002 I thought of parking it atop a truck bed drawer but even 4" would have made the camper too tall so I dropped the idea. That 13ft camper slept 8 had a full bathroom/shower in it. Today, you cant get a truck camper any longer than 11ft 6". !
Perfect for what im looking for! Thank you for this. I will be copying your plan. I love how low it sets in the bed....some of the builds on youtube are a foot high and i dont want to lose the height for truck camping with a shell on. Im subscribing just for this!
Thanks, it has been the best thing I've ever had in a truck. We do a lot of camping and I will load that thing up, easy to unload, no more jumping in the bed.
I know this was 2 years ago on the build but I am about to build one myself. If you still have yours, you can put some screw on rubber chair leg bumpers to keep it from rattling when the tailgate is shut. Great build though!
Great job! Thank you so much for sharing! I was thinking about buying one but they're so expensive. It seems like it's way better to spend a couple of days and try to build for oneself.
I’m digging it. I own a 4th Gen Ram as well and I don’t want to spend upwards of $1000 bucks or more on something I can possibly build myself. Thanks for the video. I’ll be hitting ya up in a couple of months when the weather is nicer and talk to ya more hopefully. Thanks! ✌🏽
I'm looking for something like that too. I might be putting a camper topper on my truck and want something easy to help me. I'm also getting back into cycling and that would help me get all of this put together. I subscribed to your channel too.
Great design I intend to make one, one question. On your bottom board where the rollers are connected are those sideboards screwed from the bottom and sit on top one are they mounted on the side edge and screwed it from the side? It was kind of dark inside the truck I couldn't see for sure. Thanks Bill
Thumbs up,👍 but I would just block the back of the base plywood so it does not flip up. Self tappers makes holes in your bed, and it's not really secure .
How is this holding up 1 year on? I'm specifically wondering if the rollers are creating raised grooves (inverted valleys) in the rolling drawer pullout?
Id like to do this but im concerned about weight and material fitment. How does sheetrock or plywood fit on top? Also with weight, how much weight have you had on it to where the rollers are digging into the plywood?
Typically a 4x8 sheet of plywood fits between the wheel humps, so a sheet would sit on top of the slide. I've had it loaded down with tools and it rolls just fine.
What brand tonneau cover is that? I’m looking for one for my 3rd gen. I think I would need one if building this sliding drawer? Maybe if you use bed liner paint on the plywood it could be weatherproof? Thoughts?
@@TheREALWeekendDIYer Also, did you put some sort of stop on the slide so it won’t come all the way out? What are your thoughts about bed liner the plywood? Would it make it more weatherproof?
Trying to figure out how far off from the bed dimensions you were so I can scale this for a Silverado short bed - as in how much smaller did you make it versus the actual inside dimensions of your bed?
@@TheREALWeekendDIYer thanks for the info... i bought all the materials today. 28 ball bearings in total, maybe its to much maybe its not. i have another question how did you make the side pieces so sturdy ?

I just bought 10 of those rollers just because I thought they would be handy. This is a perfect use for them
Thanks for the video. I was trying to think of how to make a sliding bracket and your use of those inexpensive rollers was great.
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for the video we are doing this exact setup for my sons startup mobile detailing business
Excellent build and video. Just what I need for my new Ram. I like how you used the ball bearing rollers, simple but effective.
Thanks, I has came in very handy. Able to utilize the entire bed without having to climb up in it.

I do still have it. It's actually in my 2023 F150 now. Fits great, and no rattling.
Thanks for sharing! Excited to use this as inspiration to make one of my own!
Sweet. I'm going to build one for my Toyota Sequoia pull out bed platform. Thank you
I agree with 4xpoppop "AWESOME". The rubber mat is excellent as a water repellent. Thumbs up!!! and thank you for sharing ☺
Thanks for the ideas to make my own. Good job.
Awesome bro!!!! I need to make this for my Ram!!!!!! Going to measure and plan today! Thank you for sharing!!!!!👊👍💥💥💥
Nice and simple design , Thanks for sharing !!

No problem, I'll help anyway I can.
Great idea. Love it. Just worried about what dust will do to the rollers. Here down in Africa we have lots of dirt roads
About once a year, I pull the slide out and spray the rollers with a silicone spray. There are zero issues so far.
Exactly what I’m looking for! I have a 2016 Laramie…..so this is perfect! Thanks
Great job on the BedSlide.
Speechless, brilliant idea eva😅
Overall cost I spend $10 haha thx u so much
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you, needed one today. Just don't want to buy a decked version

You could add mounts to the bottom of the slide to anchor the bike in place.
Interesting design 👍 Well Done
Good start video, maybe put amazon links for some of that stuff in your description.
All items needed are listed in the description, nothing was purchased through Amazon.
Great DIY video! thanks for sharing your parts list. You have inspired me to make one for my 2015 Toyota Tacoma!!!
Way to go Airborne!
So my bed has groves and I was thinking of just placing strips with roller bearings in the floor groves and then a OSB sheet on top.
You could do that. I just like this setup because it takes about 5 minutes to remove if needed and then I have just a regular bed again.
Very good idea 💪💪💪💪
Great idea
Brilliant. New subscriber.
Nice work.

The side boards sit on top of the bottom plywood and screwed from the bottom. I countersunk the holes and used wood glue.
@@TheREALWeekendDIYer Thank you sir!, Got all the stuff yesterday gonna start on it today. Bill😀
You're welcome, good luck.
Brilliant 👏 tundra here i come 😅😅
Thumbs up,👍 but I would just block the back of the base plywood so it does not flip up. Self tappers makes holes in your bed, and it's not really secure .
Been secure for a few years and a rear end that totaled a truck. Guess it's more secure than you assume.
How well does this slide under weight? if i slap a hundred or so lbs of tools on it i imagine it may bind and be tricky to slide back in.
Not at all. I've had that thing loaded down many times. No issues at all sliding it.
Question for ya? What # and size self tapping screws did u use? Thanks so much
To screw the base to the bed? I used 2 screws, don't remember the size.
Yep, 13 rollers
What did u use to attach all the wood on the C channel parts ?
Just what I was looking for
Hi Sir, I am getting ready to use your idea and build this. Only question: Where did you find the pull handles? Thank you again.
Home depot
@@TheREALWeekendDIYer thank you, I appreciate the quick reply
How do you secure the 1x6 to the plywood? Glue and nail gun?
I used tite bond 3 wood glue and counter sunk screws
What do you need to build a cargo glide truck box
How is this holding up 1 year on? I'm specifically wondering if the rollers are creating raised grooves (inverted valleys) in the rolling drawer pullout?
It's holding up great. I'll see if I can do a open year video on it.
How did you attach the base to your truck bed?
Thanks for sharing,
How does it hold up if you were to put a pressure washer (or something heavy) at the far end and fully extend the bed all the way out?
Holds great
What are the materials used
Genius

@@TheREALWeekendDIYer that's what I figured. Thanks
So I have a different dimension of my bed. How much space did you allow between the end of the slide and the tailgate?
No more than .25"
What brand tonneau cover is that? I’m looking for one for my 3rd gen. I think I would need one if building this sliding drawer? Maybe if you use bed liner paint on the plywood it could be weatherproof? Thoughts?
That was the soft trifold from rough country. I later switched to a hard trifold from rough country.
@@TheREALWeekendDIYer Also, did you put some sort of stop on the slide so it won’t come all the way out?
What are your thoughts about bed liner the plywood? Would it make it more weatherproof?
No stops on the slide. Tailgate holds it in place. This also makes it easier to slide it our and clean it. Bed liner would work find to protect it.
Trying to figure out how far off from the bed dimensions you were so I can scale this for a Silverado short bed - as in how much smaller did you make it versus the actual inside dimensions of your bed?
It might be close. I built it for my ram 1500, and when it got totaled, I put the slide in my new f150, fit perfect.
How much with can it hold when fully extended?
Have had a lot of weight on it and it hasn't failed yet.
Did you bolt down roller part base of slide?Or no need?
The base is attached to the bed floor. I used 2 self tapping screws and it has held fine. You could bolt it if you wanted.
Where did you anchor down the slide at? Self tappers into the bed towards the rear of the bed?
Yes, 2 self tappers. 1 at the front center and 1 at the rear center of the base.
Interested what kind of rails used
It's all made from wood
What size rollers 1” or 5/8”?
👍🏻
how does the slide not fall out of the truck when its full extended ? thanks in advance
You don't pull it all the way out
@@TheREALWeekendDIYer thanks for the info... i bought all the materials today. 28 ball bearings in total, maybe its to much maybe its not. i have another question how did you make the side pieces so sturdy ?
What keeps this from sliding all the way out?
You or the tailgate
So I can see the flag on the wall in the background, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SERVICE GO USA
Thank you, appreciate that
Great concept. Unfortunately as the bearings wear into the plywood no longer will slide. Need something on the bottom that will not indent or wear.
Not an issue at all. I've been using it for a year with no wear at all.
By increasing the number of roller bearings it would distribute the weight and minimize any wear on the slider.
How much u charge me to build one for my ram haha
If you're in the Baton Rouge area I can do it for you.
What are the rollers called ?
There is a picture of them in the ending of the video.
@@TheREALWeekendDIYer A part # for the rollers would be helpful.
@@gumbyd6066 don't have a part number with me, I picked them up and Harbor Freight.
How did attach rollers? Thinking a 3 pieces of 1/8 X 3 flat steel at three spots will make this glide like greased goose shit 😁👍
Transfer Bearings I believe
It's 13
