I was born in Christchurch and we lived in South New Brighton with an amazing view over the estuary. We emigrated to South Africa in 1968 when I was 10 years old. The city centre in this video is unrecognizable except for the Avon river and the cathedral. Sadly our lovely former home was demolished after the earthquake. I'm retired and very settled in Cape Town but would like to return to NZ to visit someday.
I wish I got to see Christchurch before the earthquake, everyone here has mentioned how beautiful it used to be! I still think it's quite lovely although very modern now. Christchurch is so underrated as a travel destination!
I lived here for a year in 2015-2016. I'm from Canada. Literally my only regret in life is coming back to Canada. I don't know if I could have stayed in Christchurch specifically forever but its definitely under appreciated. The people are so amazing. I'm from a place with similar population so it was an easy transition. If you're a large city person it wont be for you but if youre someone who appreciates the necessities and likes being outdoors its a beautiful spot. So many awesome weekend trips you can do.
Wonderful!! Sounds like you had an amazing time there, I agree it's such a fantastic spot and base for exploring. It's a nice in between of a small/big city.
Gorgeous video and great commentary! Christchurch is every bit as beautiful as I remember it. Where do you guys think you’ll head next? Have you been to Akaroa yet?
Thank you so much! I'm glad this could take you back to good memories in Christchurch 😊. We're in Nelson in real time but the next video will be dolphin cruising in Akaroa! WOW Akaroa was so gorgeous, I definitely want to return there one day.
I’m from Christchurch born and raised. I moved over to Brisbane Australia back in April. I get homesick a lot so thank you for posting this video! Feels so good to see home ❤️
@@lfitz5579 that sounds so awesome, I'm so pumped for you & your travels!! I hope you love Canada and the US as much as I do, amazing countries to travel around 😊
Brief flash at 5.15 of three corgis off leash, one of them is nosing a fallen ice cream cone. They were installed for one of the Queen's jubilees, I think. Of course her actual corgis would never be allowed to go after spilt ice cream.
Have lived in Christchurch (last 40 odd years in New Brighton,) all my life and have never wanted to live anywhere else! How come no mention of the hot pools?? It has become much more congested traffic wise i the last 10 years, but i guess nothing stands still eh. Enjoy your time here guys(❤
I haven't heard of the hot pools!! We will be back in Christchurch in January so we'll have to check that out. That's fantastic, I'm so glad you love where you live 😄
@@brittanymorgan09 The hot pools are at the beach in New Brighton @ 2.02 in video where you said it looks like wash room/changing facility is actually the hot pools
Chch has some of the best wall art I have seen countrywide in part because there are so many spaces after the quakes. New Brighton is always refreshing and if the library is still open it has some of the best views. To you, everything is expensive, but you come from a large landmass and this is only a group of islands... It's never going to be cheaper, but it is going to be worth it.
There's actually a lot of things that are much cheaper in NZ than Canada, like phone plans, car insurance and internet! Lots of grocery items are cheaper too. So it depends, some things are more and some are less. $40 for 2 bagels and coffees is a bit steep but it's a really nice bakery and something like that would be expensive in Canada too. So no, not everything here is expensive to me. Agreed on the wall art in Christchurch, it's all so amazing! Really fun to walk around and discover it all.
Christchurch city was so much nicer before the earthquake, I can't even get my bearings there now. It's nice to see people who didn't know it before really like it. I used to live right by that beach, just up a bit in Parklands. Nice to see New Brighton getting such a good review 😂 IYKYK
Man Christchurch looks BEAUTIFUL It seems like a less busy, less windy version of Auckland and Wellington combined together.
It's seriously awesome and underrated. So much to do close by too!
@@brittanymorgan09 Yeah I wasn't really a fan of Christchurch until I started watching your videos, great job!

Such a shame about the earthquake, I wish I could have seen it before that happened but yes I do find it to be a very lovely city!
Honestly prequake Christchurch was sooooo much prettier, but post quake Christchurch provides a better quality of life
