Thanks for the journey it was a cliffhanger there for awhile I was on the edge of my seat waiting for Rob to pop back up with his phone but I’m just glad he was ok 👍 another great time with the kids hope they get more time there with ya 🥰Lots of love from Louisiana ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
And here I thought the most dangerous thing about the title "wild swimming in the canal" was Weil's disease. Yikes! Locks are where deaths happen... :-P I'd have just written the phone off.
Kids at this age enjoy adventures that break from their normal routine. I knew when you were rebuilding Sloe Patrol that their future visits would fascinate them. It’s even better if they can wander off on another boat ….it’s all “discovery. They will in fact be talking about this to their friends and spouses well into adulthood and beyond. One thing I did notice was the absence of strong winds ….as you might recall was the case… at North Kilworth Warf. As “Aussie Boater” noted in one of his vlogs: “The only thing that the wind is good for on a Narrowboat is…drying clothes”. 🥂 …as always Captain Jamer. Canada’s Eastern Seaboard 🇨🇦👍
Canals have got a magnetic field that pulls phones keys and sun glasses in , you need to cut the tiller arm down , been watching you from the start , enjoy your vids , thanks take care keep them coming
James I just got a post from Venetian marina of a dutch barge narrow boat that had a very interesting layout for the stern deck that has a drop down deck that covers the stairwell steps so you don't fall down in the stairwell might be adaptable to your boat for safety when you enter from that side of your boat the boat is called Tea & Oranges. If you need any other info just ask and l could forward that info. How is your weather we are getting drowned here right now we have had about 195-200 mm of rain since Friday night time to build an arc or buy a narrow boat .Best regards Neil.
Hi James :-) - mate, you were wrong about when the first red phone boxes come into existence - you said 1922. The first K2 telephone box was introduced to the London streets in 1926 - Four years out James, and it was odd how you sort of conjured up that date in passing one lol :-)
Wow, Rob in the lock, he didn't look good towards the end, When i came through on Sunday CRT were running water as the level had dropped agsin, A boat had his prop ripped off as the level was so low and it hit the sill. All fun and games.
I like the way "Slow Patrol" has a face. It's a little like a bulldog. It's somehow rather appropriate, don't you think? It's great that the kids get along well, and that you have helped create community for yourself and the kids. Aside from losing phones, it's living the dream!
You experiencing leafy propeller problems..they build up on the leading edge of the blades until it looks like a doughnut. Just knock it on reverse and they fall off
James... I've been trying to catch you up, no end of break downs and it's a brand new build 62ft x 12ft named Urselina after my late mother. So anyway enjoyed the video hopefully I'll bump into along the way, I'm heading for London...💙👊😎
Hats off to Rob for getting in the water, I was really hoping he’d find it after that great effort. Ex military man say no more. The diesel at Winkwell is very reasonably priced, good place to top up. I’ll say it as no one else as mentioned it, why is your mate moored on the lock landing?
Rob's brave! I've ended up in the cut a couple of times but I'm still deathly afraid of falling in a lock, there's just too many unknowns like the depth or submerged mechanisms or sluices & powerful moving water
Hats off to Rob for the recovery attempt. It was a risky call. After losing my phone when I fell in earlier this year I can testify how bloody annoying it is to lose your phone in that way and how scary it is being in the water. The ladder at the back of the boat is a fantastic idea.
Nice video and sorry to see your friend lose his phone. While people are moored the way you are, do they ever do any metal detecting along the tow paths? With all the foot traffic I would expect there might be some loose change to be had, as long as it is legal..........
As an ex-military member myself there is no way that I'd get into that water. Rob is very brave and very lucky that he didn't get hurt going barefoot in the lock. I guess that must be the difference between the Air Force and the Navy or Army
Getting in a lock is a very stupid thing to do ,obviously the phone is not going to be in the same place as he dropped it I’ve heard of people and animals being swept into the holes where the water goes in and out when the paddles are open .I’m Glad you had a nice time with your children
One of the joys of narrowboating, apparently, is that you can take your nice neighbors with you! That dip of Rob's was unexpected! Can I suggest a cord or chain on your own phone tied around your waist??
It's not what you've got, it's how you use it, James. Bigger isn't always better. ;o) Having some new friends is good for kids, and they generally behave better than when left to their own devices. Have a good one, mate.
Wow, looked like a cold dip in the drink! Got me wondering of ways to somehow secure a phone. Those things are expensive! Was thinking a bicycle would be helpful when you need to go move the car, especially if you need to move more than a mile or so. Do you have any trouble finding a place to park the car?
You can get those magnetic phone holders come with a disk to attach to the phone. Then u just need a good 🧲 good for fishing as well & a leaf rake in case it lands face down. Sod getting in the canal in November :)
My, that was exciting. I'm sorry for Rob losing his phone, which is so aggravating. How long is Sloe P? Serafina? What percentage of boats on the canals have thrusters? Please do take care and keep being the wonderful dad you are. - Leigh
Another great vlog James, hope Rob doesn't feel any side effects after getting in the canal and that he is okay, great that you get to have the kids for a while. Until the next vlog.
Robs lucky not to have sliced has foot open let alone possible Weil's disease. If you drop it in the lock forget about it or get a sea searcher magnet. The risks really outweigh the benefits. That being said, fair play I know plenty of people (loonies) who would do the same 😜. Also as a matter of interest do you do engine checks before firing up? Is it a Lister?
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt strewth the new coal is pathetic. someone i know has just had to start using those nugget things on an open house fire and i noticed how feeble they are as soon as i walked in the room. probably better in a multi fuel stove as the metal surface area is greater but nevertheless. he's hoarding his remaining stash of traditional coal now!
You Narrow boat folks should tie strings to your phones and tools around something so they do not fall in . See you later and take care James and friends .
James your channel is great your so down to earth and living the dream. Keep the good work up
Nice vlog, thank you for sharing, looking forward to the next one! Cheers!
So lovely seeing you enjoying yourselfs and the community! Thanks for sharing so much!
It seems Rob is constantly in the canal. Loving the content James.

This is what all the work is for, time with your kids. Although children need structure, adventure opens their minds to new things. Happy days.
What makes this channel special is the interaction. :-) Glad my little comment got to Rob and we learned why his boat was sitting so low. :-)
And here I thought the most dangerous thing about the title "wild swimming in the canal" was Weil's disease. Yikes! Locks are where deaths happen... :-P I'd have just written the phone off.
Great to know you have a good time with the youngsters, poor Rob. Take care and thanks for the update.

Ok James, I think you could make some money by inventing a phone case that floats for narrow boaters 😁. Thank you for the cruise.
It's already available, it's called a lanyard. It's the same with cameras people drop them and wonder what the wrist strap is for. 😂

Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. 1924.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
Lovely and Happy VLOG, very nice.
that genuinely gave me the chills watching rob in the water, ex South African military jees that's a good man to have your back!
That looked such fun, not the impromptu swim though. Glad to see you are all settled in. Christine x

My neighbors have a red British phone box in their horse pasture (in Massachusetts/USA!)
Enjoyed the video, what's your next job planned for inside the boat?
Rob is pretty brave. I would be afraid of broken glass, sharp metal and such. Could cause a nasty wound.

Always something happening on canals. It's great..
Those telephone boxes are extinct now in NZ, what we have is glass enclosures when you can find one that is they are few and far between.
did you used to have the same red cast metal ones like uk?
@@MsVanorak some of those but most were wooden, you see them in private yards in out of the way places.

Use your magnet we sent you that will pick up the phone if you can find it

It’s still so funny to watch and I was there 😂🤣

Leaves in the canal get around the prop and slow the boat down. Honest. What we do is put the boat into reverse to get rid of them.
Hi what are you going to do after 2023 when they ban coal? Is there a special deal for narrowboats.?
They’re not banning coal, they’re banning traditional house coal. It doesnt apply to low-smoke or smoke free coal like what we on Narrowboats use.

30 minutes in the "Cold Cut". 1st Prize = " A good old English Cuppa" ! Top Prize Giving Young James :-)
Hope grammar not listening glad the kids are happy to

Magnet fish the phone out. Might be able to save the memory card
