    I already loved Beth, but after hearing her discuss how feminine sexuality is inextricably linked with patriarchy I love her even more. She’s right about the beauty industry too, and I say this as someone who rarely leaves the house without a full face of makeup that I wear “for me.”

      I never wear makeup. When I do, not only, can I not wait to get home and take it off, I’m also surprised at how many people look at me like they are looking at me for the first time like wow. I get comments about how beautiful I am when I have make up on. But I feel more beautiful when I don’t.

    Jamie, you have every right to meet your biological dad and not feel guilty about it. Your parents both clearly knew, deep down. At the very least, you deserve to know that side's health history. When you go to therapy with your mom, do it with no ulterior motives (like getting your dad on board eventually). It's great that your mom is willing to go and this could end up creating a deeper bond with her.❤

    I feel like you created a vacuum on your cervix and thats why it hurt. It does create a seal, so you use your finger to pop the seal otherwise you are basically sucking your cervix out if you just pull it out but I believe the same thing can happen when putting it in.. Like how cupping works.. So make sure it expands all the way in there before you create the seal, otherwise that baby sucking out the cerv.
    I also agree with the pad idea that it feels like it gets it all out. I hate pads but after being lifelong tampon girl, I used period underwear and I SWEAR my period was over in just one or two days, as opposed to 5 with tampons period underwear are great. They don't feel like pads at all

    Tampons, until even the jumbo size couldn’t stop the flow. Every time I was out of the house I’d have to check behind me for blood. Ruined so many uniforms and underwear.
    Pads were hideous back in the day; the humongous absorbent logs came with weird flaps on the front and back-with zero explanation-which evidently used to attach to an actual belt back on my moms day… ugh. They chafe, leak, slip, clump. No thanks!
    So happy to be in full menopause due to removal of my ovaries and uterus. Turns out the heavy flows and random clumps were due to scar tissue binding my lady parts to the wall of my abdomen. Ouch.
    Love being a woman.
    Adore being a mom.

    Happy to be free of the mess and the pain.

    There’s definitely a learning curve with a menstrual cup, but once you get how it works with your anatomy it makes life so much easier. I had a lot of issues with leaking and discomfort until I figured it out and now I’m so glad I didn’t throw in the towel. Besides the environmental and health implications, you also save moneyyy!

    • @Naejakire3
      @Naejakire3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the suction is the main issue. It creates a seal so knowing that you have to break the seal when removing it, I feel like you could easily accidentally squeeze all the air out of it when putting it in so if it opens a certain way, it could create a suction too. I experience the same thing that she described once with a diva cup and I had no idea why it hurt SOO bad compared to all the other times but now I think it probably was because there was some sort of suction happening inside

      Sorry, Rachel. The women of the podcast didn't pass the vibe check.
      This isn't just about Patriarchy Or Nah (speaking to Beth's view). It's about Women Envisioning New Modalities Of Owning Our Sexualities. And just because they didn't affirm that quest, which many women of all ages are engaged with (Miranda July's new novel is an example), doesn't make Rachel wrong, it just makes Beth & Natasha unqualified to hold space for these new frontiers. ❤

    I think that is the big difference with cis men and cis het women, is that men were boys where doing what feels good and it being fun for them was not nearly as shamed about it in their upbringing as cis het women. ALSO, in the days when sex ed and birth control was no where to be found, men could insist that a pregnancy was not their doing and/or run from the responsibility and women were pretty well stuck with going to term with the pregnancy, then expected to raise the kid or give it up for adoption (or sometimes the child taken away to be aborted after birth by a family that could not stand the social stigma), which was psychologically damaging to the child...all while the bio-dad is going around fucking other people without a care. So women have been brought up culturally and by evolution to have a sense of the _heavy_ responsibility that they could be saddled with.
    But, since women are not a monolith, some women can have sex for fun and still feel secure in that all involved are doing their part in protecting each other. I'm sure they still feel the heaviness in the back of their mind of _what if..._ which might enhance sex with a sense of danger or "naughtiness?"
    And all that is just if the sex is consensual.

    Tampons are uncomfortable. Also, they cause infection, dry you out, etc. and they’re difficult to get out. They expand and it’s much larger and more uncomfortable as the time goes on. Pads are easy. I’ll use a tampon in an emergency or situation that warrants it. Period panties are okay for lighter days.
    The cup is too intimidating. You have to reach in there with more than one finger to pull it out?!

    • @JDMimeTHEFIRST
      @JDMimeTHEFIRST ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can imagine the cup is painful, because when you get a Pap smear you get that cramping pain. And if anyone’s ever had an endometrial biopsy, that’s like someone with daggers fighting their way out of your uterus. I threw up from the pain. I’m not sure why they don’t give patients painkillers or put them under for that. Probably because we’re not men 😅.
