Forbidden energy gap is not diffusion barrier..it is just that how much energy electron needs to move to conduction band if it is present in valence band..no diffusion is occurring in calculating energy gap.
Diffusion barrier is the barrier which is preventing diffusion which is occurring at depletion region
Diffusion barrier, potential barrier,barrier height,knee voltage are the names of same thing
