    Did you know that, concerning giving, or tithing, or prosperity, Malachi 3:8-12 is not the full counsel of God? It is an excerpt, quoted to the church for centuries (believe it or not), which is a misrepresentation of God's counsel. We've accepted it because that's what we have always been taught. Here are a few points to consider.
    -- Who did God appoint to receive tithes? God said, "And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth [the tithe] in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation (Numbers 18:21-23). In this scripture, God established who receives the tithe (the Levites), and why they received it (they received no inheritance, and they served in the temple). This assignment is exclusive to Levites. A pastor cannot assume this assignment, he has never been scripturally assigned by God to collect tithes, he is not a Levite. In that same sense, only a Levite, never a pastor, could ever serve in a Jewish temple. The church has not replaced the Jewish temple, and pastors have not replaced Levites.
    -- People are blessed when they give, not because of Malachi 3, which is based on the Law of Moses, an Old Testament law that has been replaced by Grace under Christ, at the cross. They are blessed because Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38). It is this principle of giving and receiving at work, when we give and are blessed. Not the expired law of tithing, which was required of the Jews (never Gentiles), and could only be received by Levite priests because they received no inheritance and were set apart to work fully in the Jewish temple.
    -- There is much more to this, such as Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek, Jacob's promise to tithe, the history of when and why the New Testament church tithes (there is actually a date!), and the scriptures that speak to these issues. To be clear, every pastor has a right to collect offerings in support of the ministry; I fully agree with supporting the church financially. But our giving must be godly. It is wrong to require people to tithe, contrary to the scriptures, then say that we live according to the scriptures.
    Four biblical truths, regarding tithing:
    (1) There is no scripture that authorizes anyone but a Levite to receive tithes.
    (2) There is no scripture that authorizes a pastor to receive tithes.
    (3) There is no scripture that requires a Gentile to tithe.
    (4) There is no scripture that requires the church to tithe.

      Praise God for giving you excellent understanding in the tithes and offerings of the law.
      Gentile ministers have no authority from God to receive tithes and offerings under the works of the law, because God ordained the tribe of Levi to receive tithes and offerings from the children of Israel, according to the law.
      { Hebrews 7:5 }
      And of all the tithes, the Lord commanded a heave offering for himself.
      { Numbers 18:28 }
      Gentile pastors are robbing the church of their money. And robbing God of the heave offering, according to the law. And God took the heave offering very serious.
      { Numbers 18:28 }
      The love of money is the root of all evil.
      { 1 Timothy 6:10 }
      It is written; God loves a cheerful giver.
      { 2 Corinthians 9:7 }
      Jesus said, it is more blessed to give than to receive.
      { Acts 20:35 }
      Freely you have received, freely give.
      { Matthew 10:8 }

      @@fernandogallardo3458 Amen to that. We are called to give, and to do so generously. My only issue is when the church tries to tell people that they are required to tithe. There is no New Testament requirement to tithe. Or that if you don't tithe, you're robbing God. That is not scriptural, and it is false. While giving is a clear requirement in the New Testament, there is no requirement to tithe in the New Testament. I covered this and a lot more in my book, "Tither, You Are Free!" So many people are still bound by the belief that they are required to tithe, and needlessly suffer financially as a result. On the other hand, the church is waking up to the truth that tithing is unscriptural and are being set free. Freewill offerings have always been a part of our service to God. But tithing died in the Old Testament, along with the Law of Moses.

      @@joyelizan9519 Joy, you said "those who don't tithe are robbers indeed said in Malach 3:10." Who is the scripture speaking to? I already showed you that God established the tithe for Jews to support the Levites who serve in the Jewish temple under the law of Moses (see Numbers 18:21-23), because the Levites were not allowed to receive an inheritance of land or possessions for themselves, under the law. The tithe was their income. As you study the Bible you will see certain things: (1) Only Levites were ever authorized to receive tithes under the Law of Moses. (2) No one but Levites received tithes under this law, in either the New or Old Testament. (3) The tithe paid by Abraham to Melchizedek, and promised by Jacob was not based on any law. It was the practice in those days (I wrote about this in depth in "Tither, You Are Free!"). In other words, if Jesus -- God Himself -- had received tithes while He was on earth He would have been guilty of disobeying the law. So, if Jesus Himself was not authorized to receive tithes, even as a Jew, by what scriptural authority does your pastor or any other pastor receive tithes? Tithing in the New Testament is scripturally unsound. It is heresy. And it is wrong.
      On the other hand, if you wish to continue tithing, that is between you and God. My concern is when people start telling believers the lie that they are "cursed with a curse" for not doing this unscriptural thing. That "curse" belonged under the law of Moses, and only applied to the Old Testament Jews who were under the law. But God's word says, "For sin shall no longer be your master, *because you are not under the law, but under grace"* (Romans 6:14). It also says, *"The former regulation [meaning, the law of Moses] is set aside* because *it was weak and useless* (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God" (Hebrews 7:18-19). It is more scriptural to give an offering than it is to tithe.
      I am also concerned about the guilt the church has been placed under when they don't tithe. This is unhealthy because, again, tithing in the New Testament is unscriptural. There is literally a recorded date when tithing was introduced in the New Testament church, and it had nothing to do with the will of God. That is church history, which Christians know so little of. Joy, I fully agree with supporting the church with our giving. But you are not bound to the false doctrine of tithing. Unless you choose to be.
