    A good differentiator between the SP and the NP: the SP seeks sensory activity because to be fully immersed in the intuitive space is an uncomfortable thing and the activity keeps themselves from losing themselves to it or whatever Dan meant to say about that, the NP would much rather seek intuitive activity which mutes the dullness of (or keeps from losing themselves to) a mundane existence yet is uncomfortably responsible to sensory activity because failing to attend to it results in an accumulation of real-world consequences.
    in other words: the body is active while the mind is in a trance vs the mind is active while the body is on autopilot, or something like that.

    No worries, Kristin; I think that many of us ISTPs have the vigilante assassin/peacemaker fantasy. I honestly think that it is one of our archetypal social roles. It is only that modern society has watered down and narrowed these roles into a more socially acceptable and official form. But I feel what you are saying 100%!

  • @curtiswillet6431

    As an ISTP I agree with Carol it's much easier doing nothing, and sitting with my thoughts to process my ideas and then prioritize and organize them, but when my mind is being flooded with ideas I need to be doing something very active because it helps to just close my mind off from over thinking, and it helps me to focus on the one thing I believe hold the most important priority. I also do things very active to help me not overthink things, and to make my mind as free from thought as possible.

    I yearn to find others in my daily life that are into typology. When I ask someone about mbti and they know about it I geek out. I have to talk myself out of talking about it sometimes because I’m afraid that I’ll look like I’m function thumping. Thankfully the istp in my life I am constantly talking about it with has begun to understand it and patiently watches/reads the things I sends his way.
    Thanks Joyce for allowing us to be a part of the tribe in these gem interviews. 😊

    Good panel! Awesome to see a female istp. I'm a female estp and my sister and one my close female friends are both isfp's. My sister and I both love to crochet to relax, both of my isfp's love jigsaw puzzles, we all like to play fast, simple, competitive games like cribbage, slap jack, tenzi, uno, etc. Cheers!
    P.s. I also find it super easy to focus or zone in on something or someone and to just zone out whatever background noise or distractions exist. I also do my best thinking on walks/hikes.

    So natural and informal - thank you for your great work. As a female Estp, I can absolutely confirm many of the catchwords. Se is always there for me, but is also always tempered by Ti in the background. So you have a lot of fun and dare some things without doing really big stupid things. Basically, we want to interact with the world or things. If that doesn't work, e.g. because the frame is too tight or the people don't want to enter the 'bubble', we usually leave the scene. Maybe that's where our Se comes into play again. Waiting and being patient feels a bit like dying. We want to live, love and have fun ...

    When I was younger, I used to always assume the worst intentions from people , because it was hard to tell what they are. Basically, I assumed the worst and waited to be proven wrong or right. As I’ve gotten older, now I just don’t assume… I just wait for the proof. -ESTP

    • @b.l.9356
      @b.l.9356 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So true! Perhaps it is also due to SeTi, as I am aware of many details in reality and always in the background my voice says: 'The facts were different / This is not coherent with what was said before etc.' Basically an Estp needs a counterpart who acts 'voluntarily'. This doesn't always have to be super friendly. But people have to want to get involved with us ...

But I could just sit and watch my fish in my aquarium for hours. I am calmed by anything that pleases my senses but does not tax my mind or overwhelm my senses in a bad way. Staring at a fire or watching the water run in a creek. These things bring me so much joy.

    1:21:34 For me it’s basically like Carol described. My main creative outlet is photography but I usually don’t plan or create the things or scenes I photograph. I tried it but it isn’t for me. I’d rather observe my surroundings and capture what’s already out there. And even when editing the pictures I enhance the captured image and try to bring out what I was seeing in the moment but I don’t create something entirely new. Yes, it is a creative process and it is influenced by my personal taste and perspective (literally and figuratively) but in the end the essence is still objective reality and not an artistic vision.

    Yes, the kinesthetic element of moving while talking or listening, whether it be walking and talking, manipulating something in my hands, fidgeting, or doodling, helps me to focus. 1:14:35 To reply to Kristin's point here of "Are there people who sit and do nothing?":
    As an INFP, yes. I can literally just sit in my bed for hours and just stare at a wall and do literally nothing. After a while I stop even registering all sensory information - like, my eyes are open and taking in light, but I'm not consciously aware of anything around me - and I can just become completely lost in thought/imagination. And my brain finds this nothingness enjoyable and relaxing.
    I tend to do it more when I have things I'm supposed to be doing and my brain wants to avoid the things. I go "okay, I'm going to do the thing now" and then I have a distracting thought and I end up doing nothing instead.

    This was such a great video!
    As for Kristin being thought of as an ESTP for her being so Fe-ish, I think socionics describes this well with the concept of the demonstrative function. So to put this shortly, the demonstrative function is the function opposite in orientation to your auxiliary; ESFPs have Fi as their auxiliary and thus have Fe demonstrative. The demonstrative function is a function we're good at, or at least, we're good at showing and have no trouble with. The F/T dichotomy could explain this but, IXFPs are less Fe-ish than EXFPs. IXFJs have less trouble with personal principles and going against the group in something than EXFJs thanks to their Fi demonstrative and so on..
    So yeah, Kristin being so good at Fe shows that she's an ESFP rather than an ESTP if these two types were to be compared.

    • @JoyceMeng22
      @JoyceMeng22  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Fantastic insight, @AbdulRaouf Algehany! Thank you for sharing. I think IxxPs being less expressive could also be explained through a dichotomy analysis too. IxFPs seeming less Fe-ish than ExFPs could be explained by them being Introverts, thus causing them to be, on a whole, less expressive than the ExFPs. The IxFJs may have access to something that looks more Fi-ish too possibly because they are Introverts, and have an easier time connecting with their personal view even if they are Fe. However, the 8 function explanation makes sense too!! :)

I first think that I could do it easily. I can conjure up the FE and reflect the person back to themselves which people love. So, I can get in close anyone. I'm thinking I'd have a lot of time alone. I decide which contract to take and when. I wouldn't take the job to better society or anyone. Ideally don't care about that. Is take the job because I'm good at it and ecause it gives me alone time. I'm thinking I'd need training in some physical skills life knifes and guns and self defence and I don't want to have to do that unless forced in some way like to be able to take care of my children

    • @PowerRedBullTypology
      @PowerRedBullTypology 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think people get just get annoyed if one function 'works harder/faster than the other'. In the case of an INTP or even any other P there might be more novel than they can process like you said, whilst the J types sometimes get annoyed by them compulsitoy ordering things without looking at things in the moment or enjoying the moment. It's like just like a factory where ideally each phase of the production of a product goes as fast as the part before it and after it..otherwise either things pile too much or or there is a shortage.

    • @MichaelGrundler
      @MichaelGrundler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As an ISTP I would rarely describe my Se as annoying but it can be intrusive at times. Generally sensory stimulation doesn't bother me and often it even helps me concentrate like listening to music, podcasts or TH-cam videos like this one while working on some problem. But if it's to much it can be distracting or the other way round I might concentrate so hard that I completely fade out what I'm listening to and I have to pause it for a moment if I actually want to hear what's being said.

    The part in the beginning about planning for the future reminded of the scene from The Office where Michael Scott drove into a lake because the SIRI told him to keep going straight. A good example of overrelying on Ni and refusing to adapt to an Se obstacle that Ni overlooked. Although Ni seems very God-like, it is not a God function -- or at least not an omniscient one.
    It's also interesting that the driver (Michael) is an Ne dom. Kinda speaks to relationship between the iNtuitive functions -- Ne following the lead of Ni (and then resenting it when it steers him wrong).
    You're right, Joyce. I see type EVERYWHERE now.

I thought everyone thought like that. He was a master at living and enjoying the present though. He still is but he’s also the same person doing the same thing when we met 15 years ago and I’ve moved on doing different things in my life.

  • @MichaelGrundler

    17:08 That’s funny. Over the last weeks I watched several of the LockPockingLawyer’s videos (thank the TH-cam algorithm for that) and I thought: that seems like an interesting activity, I should try that. And now I learn that another ISTP is doing it. I take that as a sign! 😉 Oh and I can definitely imagine myself picking locks recreationally while being in a videoconference or similar situations.
    24:38 I would get stressed or frustrated if I was under time pressure either because someone made me to do this or I got it into my mind to finish this but would actually rather do something else. But if it’s just to pass time then I could probably do it for hours. It’s the same with video games like for example Dark Souls. Once it took me many hours over several days just to beat one boss. Ok, in that case it can and will be stressful but nevertheless I’ll try again and again and won’t stop until I made it. The feeling of relief and achievement is usually worth it.

  • @bb_ghosty
    @bb_ghosty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1:13:50 I don’t know if this is because I’m double activated savior Se while my Ti is single activated (ISTP glass lizard; sleep last), but I also cannot stand to just sit and do nothing. Or just go for a walk with only my thoughts to keep me busy. That is the recipe for instant depression for me. It’s an extreme sense of under-stimulation that makes the world seem grey and my life seem lifeless (not to be hyperbolic here, but it’s the best description I can come up with at the moment). So while I can, in theory, see this pattern being more common in ESxPs than ISxPs due to having Se first vs. second, I just wanted to comment with my personal experience since it probably falls into the “exceptions” category of this general pattern. I think the OPS animal stacks can help add some useful nuance to a lot of the generalities brought up in this conversation. :)
    ( I should note that yes this is from OPS self-typing, but also yes I am confident in my self-typing.)
    Edit:
    1:19:40 On the topic of binge watching, I also relate to the ExSPs more here. If I watch more than 1-2 episodes of a show in one sitting, I feel gross and tired and like I’m wasting the day/evening away. I don’t enjoy movies at all, one reason being that they’re too long. I can (and love to) consume new information all day - I’ll go through SO many TH-cam videos/podcast episodes etc. while I’m going about my day and doing things. But when it comes to TV/movies, you have to actually sit down and watch, you can’t just listen and learn, so that’s a totally different consume experience.

    around 42:00 what Carol said about Se annoys her sometimes when she want to focus on something or someone...i have this too sometimes. for example when i have to read something, i can´t do it with music or people speaking in the backround...the Se around me has to go away then. At a Party i can block that music and loud crowd too to an extend if i want to.
    Around 1:14 yes, i also can´t just sit and be. I try sometimes in the morning...just my coffee, no phone, for 20 minutes...it is sO hard!
    lol, Carol 1:16 i sometimes have to stop washing the dishes or doin a workout immediatly because i have good idea bc if i do not stop i forget it.

      Interesting, I think Se can be annoying to everyone at times. I was wondering if it annoys Se doms and Se aux differently. I've heard some Se doms say when Se is annoying, it is because it keeps reminding them of what else they could be doing, like FOMO. I get annoyed (Se aux) because I'm really interested in what I'm doing (researching, thinking/talking about something, etc...) and outside Se feels intrusive and unwanted, not like a possible exciting experience I'm missing out on. Is it the same for you?

    • @kadsenvieh

      @@Psylocke-2.0 my FOMO went down a lot over time (im 40). :) Se only annoys me, when it is for example a rly loud sound from the neighbour and i cant do anything about it. Hard to block that out. Also sometimes in the panels are klicking sounds from someone and they drive me crazy. when im rly interested in a book (fiction) and im rly in the story i can block the Se but when i have to study and read something, what i maybe find not that interesting, i hear everything around me and it annoys me. then, yes, i have a bit ob FOMO. ;) sry for my bad english.

    I feel like I need to chat with Joyce ahha ESFP demon jumper so, like a weird INFP or INTJ upside down? I love these videos seeing types in real life. I definitely can binge watch like for real, but I’m pretty introverted for an ESFP according to OPS. So, I don’t know haha.

    I wanna hear about Storm's dual relationship with the INFJ chick
    Actually, Joyce, could you do segment(s) on dual relationships? Maybe an individual of different types who are in one? Very interesting topic to me. Or even better, if you could have both of them on.. But maybe just one would be great!!

    I really love Kristins energy❤️ But as an ESFP there is a lot I do not recognise. Sometimes I feel like a weird ESFP🤔 I often love to listen more than I love to talk. I absolutely love talking about the meaning behind things. I really like spending time alone, and I really enjoyed the COVID time where I could spend more time alone getting to know myself. I am really confused about extroverted sensing and what it really means, because I sometimes feels so overwhelmed with stimuli and I heard it is a normal things for SE doms… hm🤔

    • @Psylocke-2.0
      @Psylocke-2.0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting. Se doms may be social introverts because they get energy from interacting with the world, but not necessarily people. You may love alone time but still be constantly, actively engaging with the things around you and feel a need to be physically doing something . I'm not sure if this is true for you, but Se can be a tricky function to nail down at times.

    • @KathrineMarie4
      @KathrineMarie4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That makes so much sence!🤗 I also think there is a big difference between how ESFP’s values their fictions and maybe their past also have an influence on what was needed for them to develop. I use Se and Fi a lot, and I do not always feel that I am in the present because I want to figure out if things are in alignment with my values. Sometimes I resonate with isfp a lot. The difference is that I act first and then I think… with age I try to also think and feel first before jumping in to action☺️

    What has two butts and kills people...? An Ass-Ass-in :D. Also about who talks the most is the starter types and the behind the scenes types when looking at Linda Berens Type Grid known as informative/over explaining in their interactingstyle vs the rest of the types that are more directly speaking and tend to under explain or struggle to explain something fx.
    I first learned about it from this video and it also was my inspiration to learn everything about type from this channel and other channels. Everything is also elaborated way more in
    season 2 & 15: th-cam.com/video/5ASWxOXmF1M/w-d-xo.html&index

    any correlation with dopamine level?
    Kristin gives off a vibe with high dopamine level.
    Seems as though she is using the outside(se) environment, activities and her internal emotions to give her constant dopamine hits.

      She has an opinion. You have an opinion. The only difference is that her opinion is not even negative but yours is. You'll relate to people who had a similar past or will have a similar future which is natural. You can trace back to prokaryotes if you want but that doesn't mean anything. You can even do DNA tests but that would not provide any sort of meaning either. No offense from my part. :)
