    man... amazing installing!! thank you for the info and details. I have a question though, after drilling the holes, how did you secure a bolt/screw there? since when you drill a hole, its not a threated hole? did you create the thread fot that little bolt/screw?

    • @BenRolfe
      @BenRolfe  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! Thank you 😊 once you’ve drilled the hole you put the supplied rivet nuts in the hole and rivet them tight. You can then put the bolt into them.

    I'm only sharing this for those like minded.
    I wanted to fit these just for cosmetic reasons so wiring them up was of no interest to me as the LED headlights are blindingly bright on their own.
    Thankfully the need to remove the cowl thing by releasing the clips attached to the grille wasn't necessary as I had sufficient room to reach in and undo the crossbar screws which will secure the brackets.
    Also, I opted not to drill into the metal to accommodate the secondary hole of the brackets as the single attachment to the crossbar screws held the brackets solidly on their own.
    If, like me, your only intention is to fit these solely for cosmetic reasons then it's not as difficult as it appears, in fact it is very simple.
    1. As demonstrated by Ben, remove the five torx screws to release the cowl.
    2. Pull the grill (with cowl) toward yourself and there's enough room to reach in to undo the crossbar torx screws (deal with one side at a time).
    3. Remove the screw, although a bit fiddly you'll be able line up the bracket outer hole on top of the crossbar and wriggle it through the exit gap in the grille before securing the bracket.
    (Tip: Put a strong magnet on the torx screw extractor so as not to drop the screws into the abyss.)
    4. No need to drill through for the secondary hole of the bracket, as already mentioned above, the single crossbar fixing screws hold the brackets solidly when screwed tight down.
    5. With the grille falling back into place, reattach the five cowl screws and all that's left to do is the fitting of the units to the brackets now extending through the grille.
    I'll finish off by mentioning Ben's video. Without it I would never have attempted this, was of great help to me. Thanks.

    Ben. I just ordered mine. LED Option so I got the interface, but I didn't see you install a switch as its an option.

    • @BenRolfe
      @BenRolfe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I’m aware, the switch is only an option on US models or the after market versions. UK versions of the OEM kit wire into the high beam via the BDC and an external high beam module.

    • @TVPostSound
      @TVPostSound 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BenRolfe Just researched it some more. The US kit is also wired into the High beam. The switch, when installed, defaults to the rally lights being disabled,. You must turn the switch on after starting the car, then it will work as designed, with the high beams. Shutting off the car turns the function off. Thus you need to push the switch prior to be able to use the rally lights. But, yes, the switch is an optional feature and is not needed. It installs on the lower column cover side next to the key icon. Right side for US. Left side for UK?
