  • Dear families
I feel as though every week I start with the same sentence - a busy week at Dixons Unity. But it has been, again! Sports fixtures, recognition visits to Flamingo Land, trust visitors, reading tests and assessments, open evening and of course high quality teaching and learning!
I want to reflect on our visit to Flamingo Land, almost 300 students attending due to their attendance - a fantastic achievement. Attendance has increased in the academy by around 4% since last academic year. That means almost 1,600 more lessons have been attended - you can imagine the impact that this has on students progress. Unfortunately, a small minority of students are still absent too often, I implore those families to reach out and allow us to support attendance to school. As a reminder, on the rare occasion that absence is necessary a phone call must be made to the academy by 8.20am on every day of the absence.
Next week we are continuing our commitment to the wider student experience by offering a wide range of clubs and fixtures, and students who are going on the residential to France are also meeting on Wednesday evening to discuss final arrangements for the trip. On Friday we have some special visitors from Australia who will be looking at the improvements made by the academy and how this is supported by our trust - we look forward to welcoming them.
On Thursday we are hosting our Y7 settling in evening. This is an opportunity to find out how well your child is getting on and speak to their form tutor about any questions, queries or concerns that you may have. Appointments are bookable now and we are hoping for 100% attendance. I am told that the refreshments (pie and peas!) are worth coming for alone!
Finally, as always, a huge thank you for your support as we continue to make Dixons Unity a school we can all be proud of.
    Mr A Jacobs
    Principal
