A Simple Hack to insert Gradient into ANY Text (and ANY font!) in Canva

- Wondering how to insert a gradient into text in Canva? Not talking about letter frames here: rather any text, with any font! Until recently, I thought it wasn't possible but IT IS! We'll be using a simple hack to achieve it since this feature isn't available yet. Are you ready to create this awesome text effect with me, let's go for it, I'll show you how, in this step-by-step, easy Canva tutorial!

I tried your trick and it worked ! Thanks ! A trick that I came up with is that, when you create your text box, if you can make the outline of your text bigger, it will create a separation from the back ground, and you wont have this problem when erasing it ! :)

This worked perfectly first time for me! Thank you so much. I had tried another tutorial to create text masks from any font and no matter what I did, it would not work like it did in the video. I was ready to give up and then found your solution. Brilliant. (Oh, and I loved how you showed the "glitch". I'm sure that will happen to me many times in the future.)

Wow, i am happy I have found this video! I tried it with 10% transparency and after removing the background, i got more vibrant colors than using 42% transparency. Just try it out! :)

😃👍 the most I appreciate is the integrity you used showing the issues. Even if in my humble opinion, this kind of process is more appropriate by using a specific tool for vector graphics, such as Affinity design adobe illustrator.

Great tutorial Ronnie! If you put more spacing between the letters before downloading, it may be faster when removing the background from the upload (without having to use the eraser) :)

Canva just needs to implement a gradient fill for text. CorelDraw has had this for probably 20 years. Since I also have CorelDraw, I would create the gradient filled text there, then export it to Canva. Same thing for filling text with a photo.
Never heard of this software before. Definitely checking it out for the gradients

Thanks for keeping it real, Ronny! I bet you could do this with shapes, too.
Most shapes also have a frame version, so that makes filling them with a gradient easier.
@@TeamRonDi Oh, yes, good point! If you wanted to do something like a circle or a star, you could just use a frame.
I was thinking of something like a bird-shaped or butterfly-shaped element. If you found a solid element with a simple design - like a solid silhouette shape - you could use this technique to add a gradient to it.

Probably a faster way would be to create your gradient text in Photoshop or GIMP, but knowing how to do it in Canva definitely has its benefits. Very cool, thx. 🙏👍

Hey Ron,
You will be able to find most shapes in the form of frames. Under the “Frames” section of the “Elements” tab.
Then you can drop your gradient of choice in those frames.

Hi, always great content. A question: is it possible to animate font color where for instance blue color jumps from one word to the other when we try to follow a voice over? Hope I'm making sense. Thanks in advance!
You could achieve that result by starting a video project and having your text separated onto different pages. Each time a word changes color, it would need to be a different page.

No, there is no such features in Canva for now.

You can’t te create masks in Canva so far. That would be a good feature to have though 🤞

Hi there, it's very hard to say because Canva Print works with a network of Print professionals all over the world. So It will depend on that local supplier.
Please I need help, I’ve done all steps of the video. Now I have my text on a white background, but I want the text only without the background to insert it in a grey logo or can I change the white background to grey?

You’ll need to export your design in PNG format and tick the box that says “transparent background”.
You’ll need a Canva Pro account for that.

I'm having a problem with this and I wonder if it's because I'm using a vertical gradient instead of a horizontal. I've tried outlining the text and using various amounts of transparency. It only seems to work with straight black text, which defeats the purpose. I think one of my problems is that some of the gradient colors are very light so there's not a lot of contrast, which is why I tried using a text outline, but that' didn't work either. Any suggestions?

It's a great tutorial for dark backgrounds. I've been trying to figure out how to do gold gradient lettering using this method, but it's not working out for me, sadly

I wonder if you know or anyone in the comments knows what I can do, the top tool bar for some reason the duplicate and bin symbol disappeared and are now on the page when I work on something, and they keep getting in the way. How can I get them back in the tool bar up top?

yes I noticed that UI change too.
It's Canva testing new ways of showing things within the Editor.
Unfortunately there is not much you can do, except getting used to it.
If they see the experiment doesn't improve the product, they will roll it back, but as a user you cannot come back to a previous version...
Reach out to Canva's support and let them know you don't like it 🤔
@@TeamRonDi thank you for answering. It’s really bad, a few times it has gotten in the way and I accidentally pressed bin and I had to press the undo button to get my work back. It’s really getting in the way. They need to change it back immediately.
I want every post and reel on my Instagram to have same gradient text colour, is that possible? The post on Instagram has bunch of sentences, so is that possible to do this for bunch of sentences as well??

I think it should work, TBH I haven't tried with larger sentences, but I don't see why not.

Yes it's possible, try bolder fonts.
