Love my grill! Remember to always oil the cooking surface when done. Can avoid any rust forming if properly coated. In Florida here, it will rust in like 5 mins if you don’t. So there is that.
As person who has and regularly uses cast iron pots and pans, bringing it in the garage won't stop the rust. It will slow it down. Keeping it well seasoned will also slow it down. If you know you aren't going to use it for a couple months or more, I would recommend putting a good lawyer of cooking oil on it, heat it up so it soaks into the surface then let it cool down. If you can get to the sides and bottom, I'd recommend doing those surfaces also. As I've never used an outdoor grill, you might try putting plastic wrap or disposable cloth on the surface. When you want to start using it again, pull the wrap off. Then heat it up slowly while wiping and scraping protective oil off. It will smoke. Once the smoke slows down, it should be ready to use. If you were able to do the sides and bottom, that can just burn off. As long as it wasn't put on to thick.
Just ask a person where is snows how they grill? Just winterize it. After the last cooking of every grill season. Clean the thing. Wire brush, high heat clean it with fire. Then store it beside the house under the eve. As a canadian all I do is this.
I own an outdoor griddle and i wont use it for weeks at a time, and dont use it all through the winter. Just keeping it covered and putting a good layer of oil on it completely prevents it from rusting as long as its cleaned properly.
This was balm to my soul after that drill sanding Blackstone video. Thank you for looking it up and not immediately choosing the most abrasive option possible used by unsteady hands 😅 yall nailed it, it looks GREAT
Its actually a lot easier to clean than doing all that. All you need to do is get some cooking oil and heat that bad boy up and let the oil and heat do the job. The hot oil will just cook the rust right off then just wipe it down with some paper towls and you got yourself a restored clean grill ready to use.

Heads up, it may be wise to wear eye protection when using wire wheels. I’ve had wires fling off and get caught in clothes before, and your eyes are worth protecting. You only have two after all. Best to you and the family.
Also a mask! There’s evidence that even the wire bristles on normal bbq brushes are super bad for you because little tiny pieces fly off and people inhale them into their lungs. This would have the same issues I would think, but on an even larger scale!

Your drill batteries should always be fully charged to help them last longer, also keep your griddle well oiled like a cast iron pan and that will help prevent rust like that. Most problems occur because people do not prep it for storage properly. Before you put it away for the season, clean it, and oil the top generously. You can even drop some lard on it, let it melt, and then cool down. You end up with a nice protective coating on it for winter.
Next time after using it, clean it right away. When it cools down, take the top off and put it somewhere inside. Exposing to moisture can cause the top to rust. I would also invest in a grill cover.

I ran into the same problem with mine the first time I ever used it. I cooked on it July 4th of last year for the first time and seasoned it after the first time came back 6 months later and used it again and it was completely covered in a layer of rust colored oil. I love my Blackstone griddle I do but the griddle is not set up to be put away like that without rusting.
Step 1 for cleaning any grill or griddle is to turn it on. For future reference, always clean and oil IMMEDIATELY after removing the food. If you have rust when you go to use it again, you still want to heat it up first. Hot rust is easier to remove in the same way that hot water cleans better and hot grease is easier to wipe off. Im a cook now but when i was a painter i would use a propane torch and a wire brush to remove rust without using any water or cleaning products. Rust is actually pretty flammable. You can burn it off.

The ambient humidity is enough to rust a grill if it isn't seasoned (oiled and heated) properly.
You don't have to sand it.
Secret trick:
Put a big layer of water on it after scraping and heat it up to let the water boil for 15 minutes.
Then dry and season twice.
This would turn the mini layer of rust into a more stable (black/blue) rust variant which is actually non-stick.

Good job calling the makers and followed directions! ❤❤❤
Woah in white shorts too? Great work
You called and they said "alright then clean it DUH" Lmao what was she thinking king that they maintain a product she bought if she neglected it??
Is it that unbelievable that not everybody knows how to clean rust? People don't just learn from nothing 🙄
I’m glad i’m not the only one satisfied by seeing it done right lol
Is it me or is her man genuinely happy that she knows how to take care of the grill a little confused but happy.
