Excellence is doing the best you can with what you have been given Verse 3 It is not perfection, you can be excellent without being perfect. Verse 3 Excellence is not about comparing yourself with someone else who is really good at what they do. Verse 4 Excellence is doing something and asking yourself: "Would God be pleased with this work" Verse 5 NB: Excellence comes from God God exhibits this through creation We are created by God in His image and must reflect the same excellence in our lives. Verse 6 Daniel 6:1-3 This is a bibilical example of excellence Verse 7 Daniel received great favour and promotion because of the excellence he displayed in his life. Verse 8 He became the most honoured advisor to the King of Babylon because of his spirit of excellence. Verse 7 NB: Reasons that Daniel's enemies couldn't find fault with him, is that everything he did flowed out of a posture of excellence Verse 8 NB: Excellence is not a skill. It's an attitude. It is a product of the mind that manifest itself in the physical Verse 9 To achieve excellence, there must be discpline and tenacity of purpose. Verse 10 Daniel 1:8-6 Verse 11 How do we pursue excellence 1. Be rightly connected with God John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit, apart from me you can do nothing. Verse 12 Mark 8:36 What shall it profit a man,to gain the whole world and lose his soul Verse 13 We may excel in so many things but it is unprofitable if we haven't first excelled in our relationship with God. Verse 14 It's a personal commitment to dishonor wickedness and excel in righteousness. Verse 15 Matthew 5:20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of God. Verse 16 You excel for eternity by confessing Jesus as Lord and savior. By not being ashamed of the gospel. Verse 17 Romans 1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, For it is the power of God for salvation Verse 18 2.Pursue excellence in your walk of faith 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new has come. The old is gone Verse 19 The pursuit of excellene is a habit, It is for a lifetime, a commitment that must be continually be renewed. Verse 20 Colossians 1:10 Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in every way, bearing fruit in every good word, growing in the knowledge of God Verse 21 We must choose to dismantle the unneccessary things in our lives that hinder our pursuit f Verse 22 3. Pursue the Power of the Holy Spirit John 14:26 Verse 23 4. Pursue excellence in service Taking every assignemt seriously for the glory of God We are expected to serve God with distinction, not because we have to but because we want to Verse 24 Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as to the Lord, not to men knowing that you will recieve a reward from Him Verse 25 I Corinthians 15:58 Therefore my beloved brethren, be steadfast, Imovable always(excelling) in the work of the Lord knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain Verse 26 Service comes with a sense of zeal A person with zeal will joyfully volunteer - they will have an infectious effect upon others- Excellence is contagious Verse 27 5. Pursue excellence in giving Jesus spoke about finances more than 2,000 times in the New Testament. Verse 28 He knew that the heart of our surrender to Him and the resulting Spiritual victory is our attitude about material things Verse 29 God has put a tremendous emphasis on giving. Why? We are naturally selfish and stingy-giving is hard, for all of us.But God is challenging us to give: i) Our time ii) Our Finances iii) Our Talents Verse 30 As we do, we increase the Kingdom here on this earth and receive material, spiritual and emotional blessings in our lives Verse 31 Three principles about giving from 2 Corinthians 9:6-10 1. The law of harvest applies to your finances The principle of sowing and reaping applies to our giving Verse 32 NB: We don't sow seeds and expect a plant to come up the next day. It takes watering, sunshine and time. Be assured, that just as a seed will produce a plant, your generosity will result in return Verse 33 2. We reap more than we sow 3.We reap in proportion to what we sow
