In the UK now relinquished children are rare. Most children who are adopted were removed from their parents by social services because of neglect and abuse.
Ok so question what if a person is capable but doesn't have support or the other parent is that justifiable? Or if a parent has unplanned multiple pregnancy one can't not necessarily prepare for that.
@Meghan, I've been mulling over your question all day. It's not an easy one. It's such a sensitive subject. It's hard to make a judgment on anyone without knowing them and their life and situation. Each situation is unique and requires prayer. But I believe the over all vast majority of people who choose to place their child up for adoption do so out of selflessness and love. (Yes, I said it, love. I know that's not A popular idea but it IS loving to recognize your limitations and selfless to place your child in the loving care of someone who can give them what you can't for whatever reason you can't.) However, we can't be naive and have to acknowledge there are some who choose to give a child up for adoption out of selfishness and self-centeredness. But in these cases, the question becomes is the child still likely going to be in a better situation with parents who want to parent than with parents who chose not to? Would they have had a good life with someone who didn't want to be a parent? Sadly, we see in our own society and culture here in the US TONS of parents that don't seem to want to be a parent and treat their children horribly. Is it better that they are with their birth family yet treated awful? The foster care system hurtsy heart bc of the rights it gives to parents and the lack of rights to children who need a better and more stable and more loving environment than what they've been born into. It's not good. And it's not fair to those children. As Daveaux said, in an ideal world, adoption wouldn't be needed and love and blood would always go together, but sadly in our world I think love trumps blood always. Having said that, if the person in your example wants to be a parent I think alot of prayer is required before another adult in their life tried to persuade them to choose adoption instead.
