    It reminded me of the book / story written by Susannah Cahalan. She experienced similar things and thankfully was saved. They made a movie about it too! Brain on Fire. I remember reading it when I was pregnant with my son. Little did I know he would be diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis after having strep at shy of turning 5. I’m grateful for my son’s medical team who immediately began treating him. I’m so glad this young lady had her dad! 😭❤️

    They are so damn arrogant! she almost died because her father and his friend figured it out without them. I can totally hear them talking crap behind closed doors. "pshhh... Google Dr's am I right". "yeah. He went to the university of siri" too bad arrogance isn't a criminal offense.

      Agreed, most doctors tend to have egos where the common man cannot be correct or even taken into consideration which is quite sad and frustrating.

    People have a tendency to become complacent in their jobs, including doctors. Sometimes when you hear hoofbeats you need to think zebras.

    Bludy hell. From the title 'rare bird' , the video picture being a bird, and the video which was a nice snowy forest, I was thinking that some actual bird had somehow bitten her and passed on some disease like a hummingbird had mistaken her ear hole for a flower and injected her somehow with the saliva that made her hear the sounds of the birds! Or something like that LOL

    I’m a registered nurse, not a doctor. Having said that I knew right away she was dealing a brain issue. The symptoms of sticky hands and auditory hallucinations were huge clues. Most doctors would have caught this. However, there are some doctors, that jump to a psychological reason as soon as they learn the patient may have a stressful situation. I’ve seen this in practice and as a young patient. It’s a real problem, especially when a patient is very ill. I told my family and friends, never mention you are under stress when you go to the doctor, if you feel your symptoms are physical. We know are own bodies. We need to learn how to be an advocate for ourselves or have a good strong person with you. Like the dad in this very sad story. I’m just glad she recovered and is doing well.

    • @NoEconomyForSomeJen
      @NoEconomyForSomeJen 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      The sad thing is that this kind of bias sets back progress in neurological wellness because the brain body “physical vs psychological” false dichotomy is not only insufficient, the framework prevents many from getting the treatment they require. I know people who have had psychological involvement with neuro symptoms who insist they do not.. .everyone has a bit, but the stigma prevents one from accepting treatment that is required. Also vice versa. For me, I was sure it was “in my head” (due to being dismissed) and I even went inpatient for acute stress and while that wasn’t wasted time, I literally had a doctor say to me that it being in my head is in my head and I needed to just stop having the symptoms. Turns out I have a few issues with my brain I’m okay but even still because of the way I present (I’ve not the ability to separate my mind body as they would prefer I simply cannot i have synesthesia in so many domains. So i just take care of myself and stuff but i long for respectable care to improve outcomes for me.

    I think is so important to advocate for yourself and your love ones. I thankfully have never had to deal with something this severe. But I still remember when my boy was around 1 and he was having issues with his eyes. He kept running into things and I even noticed his eyes crossing. At the time I needed a referral to see an eye doctor and his primary refused saying it was normal. I kept making appointments every week and told him I rather hear it from the eye doctors instead. It took a while but we did it. He ended up needing eye surgery and glasses.

  • @katcel16
    @katcel16 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Ok, so about halfway through, here’s what I’m thinking: hallucinating music immediately made me think temporal lobe epilepsy, but could also be some lesion, like a tumor, or maybe an aneurysm? In her temporal lobe, specifically right temporal lobe once she started getting pain in her left side. Now I’m halfway through and HOW HAS NO ONE DONE AN EEG YET??? They’re quick and non-invasive. Granted, if not done during a seizure or while post-ictal it would be normal, but still. And if that shows nothing, then do a contrast CT to check for a brain tumor or bleed. If nothing there, then if she comes in again during or immediately following an episode (like what happened at work), repeat the EEG in case it is epilepsy that just wasn’t caught the first time. How has no one done these pretty routine tests yet??? Like it’s clearly neurological, why have they only done standard exams and blood tests??

    • @katcel16
      @katcel16 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      “Lauren had experienced a massive seizure” HMMM COJLD IT BE BECAUSE SHE HAS TEMPORAL LOBE EPILEPSY AND FOR SOME REASON NO ONES DONE AN EEG YET??? HOW are these doctors THIS incompetent? My go. Hallucinating music isn’t even something commonly seen in schizophrenia, auditory hallucinations are usually voices

    • @katcel16
      @katcel16 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Ok so I was wrong, but I stand by the doctors being incompetent for not doing more neurological tests when she had obviously neurological, not psychological, symptoms. Also, I’ve never heard of a teratoma being malignant, weird.

    One time when I was really tired I heard a shitty song on the radio continue playing (at a lower volume) after I shut it off. I got a shot of adrenaline when I realized it was a hallucination, it's vastly more disturbing than hearing "music" in white noise. The brain is incredible and you really notice it when there's a disfunction, many people are just one bonk on the head away from being a savant.

      Very few listen, but most of them do have a god complex where they believe no common person that has no medical knowledge could possibly be correct on the matter. It’s quite sad since doctors should work together with all and any information they are given regardless of the source. They aren’t the only ones who can be right about something even if they think they are.

    Doctor's need to remember who they work for. It's the patients Money if they want a test done do it. It didn't matter about your pride because you think you're superior. I lost close family because a doctor thought they knew everything. That doctor is no longer able to practice or work with the public in any capacity. Remember we're just human it's possible for anyone to overlook something
