I sat here watching this crying like a freaking baby in my car... it was always a powerful song in my twenties but now that I'm in my forties and I'm a mom of teenagers I just get it so much more. Your mom is always going to love you no matter what
I can not, can not, can not even believe I ran across this. I don't know why I just never thought I'd see this on here. Okay, so here goes another piece of my life. This song makes me think of my daddy every single time. He passed away six years ago and I doubt I'll ever let him go. He pulled me through everything. I put him through alot of worry but he was my best friend. "I'm sober now for three whole months. That's one accomplishment you helped me with. The one thing that always tore us apart is the one thing that I'll never touch again and in a sad way I want to thank you for holding my head up late at night.. while I was busy waging wars on myself.. you were trying to stop the fight." I've been sober for almost nine years because he helped me. My daddy saved me.
YASSSSSSSSSSS! Loved your facial reactions to the lyrics :) Definitely threw you for a loop. But I'm sooooo glad you gave the song a chance. This song helped save my life in those darker days. Love seeing you give out there genres a chance :)
I have done something for you that I have never done for any other TH-camr. Just because I like you and your videos so I hit the notification bell!! You are the first and only!! Yes you are that special! Thanks for all you do both here and in your day to day life you are inspiring!!
YAY.. I love "Blue October!" The lyrics to their songs are so meaningful! One of their best songs 'in my opinion' is "Fear". The message is so inspiring & his voice is at it's best in that song! If you haven't heard it you should check it out! The official video is so powerful.
I went to Moscow for their concert back in November 7, 2013 from Istanbul, and once again I was in Kiev for the concerts that took place in 25th February. I am not rich but never thought about distance and money when I started this journey. The flight lasted 11 hours with two transfers, and the return was same route. I wish this wonderful concert had lasted three hours instead of 1.5 hours. Again it was amazing and worth everything.
I'm still here because of you; it was amazing to hear you review this song. This song has always felt very personal to me. It doesn't matter the addiction, you are 1,000% correct. Thank you for being who you are. You honestly don't know who you will reach.
Depression and depressive illness are horrible. Justin actually has bipolar disorder and depression/depressive illness is just part of it. I think many people can relate to the depression but in my experience, mental illness is highly personal. Each person's experience is different but so many can really relate. (As sad as that is ... 😐 )
Yes!!! I’ve been a huge Blue October fan for many years, just saw them live this past weekend. I’ve suffered from depression or a long time and ‘Fear’ saved my life!! Blue October saved my life 💙💙💙
I played this song for my mom after I got clean and we cried. I told her this was how I felt during my addiction and I couldn't understand why she wouldn't give up on me at the time and she said "because you're my son, what kind of mother would I be if I stopped trying to keep my youngest child alive?" It broke me down.
This song speaks to my heart, and I cry every time I hear it. It reminds me of my mother, whom I lost in 2011 when she was just 56. And I'd failed her in so many ways. This song is basically putting my brain to music, it's exactly what I would say to her. Wow, gonna make myself cry already!! Whew....
Blue October has been one of my favorite bands for the last 15 years. “Fear” is definitely a great Blue October song. But also, since you’re such a family man, check out “Home” as well.
Thank you for that ty and I thought that was a old game box to at first lol and u r so right there are so many things other than drugs that u can be addicted to. This song is one of my favorites, they have good songs with meaning behind the words, god bless you for listening to me
This is one of my favorite songs pertaining to addiction. I am glad you dabbled in the fact that addiction can be anything. Including things that are "healthy". People sometimes forget that all things should be done in moderation.
My heart goes out to anyone out there watching your loved ones battle a heroin addiction. My husband battled it and this song breaks my heart. It is like being in the mind of someone using heroin. This was my life and it is a scary place to be in. And as far as addiction I was just as sick as he was trying to make sure he was alive the next morning. Thank you for playing this one.
They were the last group of the Summer Jam concert and we had to leave before we got to see them. One of my wife's favorite groups. Lots of emotions/feelings in their music.
Blue October is an underrated band. Justin is a very talented writer and singer. Most of his songs are about personal events in his life. Thanks for this one. 👍👍
Blue October fear is amazing has a beautiful message also along with it. After my suicide attempt this song came randomly on my Pandora list when I get home from the hospital, I literally feel to the ground crying. Never again will I let fear or anything get in the way of my happiness!
Every time I listen to this song, I have a completely different addiction or deficiency that I hate myself for. And we all perform and suffer in a lifetime of silence. Most are too afraid to listen, and the rest don't care. We all fly solo. No matter how much we do not think we do. Respect Modern Renaissance Man.
Saw Blue October at the Warehouse in Houston and his Mom and a friend were in the wings up close to stage. It was pretty awesome. He looks so different today. Huge Beard. Calmer. He had a really hard breakup with some lady who did him wrong.
Great point about addiction. There are so many kinds of addictions. You can be addicted to many things as well! Great video and insight! God bless my friend
Reading the comments below makes me want to check out more songs from this band. This song Hate Me is so powerful. I so love the line "when I was busy waging war with myself u were trying to stop the fight." Wow...that lyric is almost as good as Dokken's "will I ever find love and peace of mind." The answer to that...my friends...is no.. Nobody will...
I’ve never done the first drug, but have loved two very special people who fought it. One made it (so far), but the other one did not. This song really strikes a chord with me.
I love watching your videos and listening to your opinions of it.........and sometimes it helps me understand them..........even if the lyrics are up, sometimes I don't understand the meaning of them..........If you could play Amos Lee "Violin".........I still haven't figured that one out.....it has the lyrics on it..........Thank You........
Awesome reaction. Also, it's "funny" that, at the end, you said "I hope you're happy", because, actually, that's the name of another Blue October song! lol
Much thank you to Justin and the band. I have lived the past four years with severe Depression and PTSD. Several times I thought of suicide honestly. I started listening to there music. I believe it was a video he was saying "open book". At that moment it clicked. Never speaking up didn't help even though I tried only to be shut down. I went through emotional abuse from several people. I decided to put fear behind me and speak up. The support is overwhelmingly awesome. I have put some things on my FB page of what I gone through. It was cool seeing them live in Baltimore Maryland (May 2018). Hopeing to go again someday. Thanks for your review. It was interesting to hear your perspective.
Great choice and reaction. I'm sure very few remember it, but to me the original version of this "Hate Me" video was much more powerful. Wish it was still on youtube

By brother in-law played this a lot when he got sober, he had Cryptococcal Meningitis that forced him sober but his choice kept him sober for over 10 yrs
Thank you for making it clear that addiction doesn’t have to be a substance, many addictions are behaviors based on attachments, a person’s past and upbringing and so on. This song hurts my ex sent this to me before he disappeared, our separation was he wasn’t part of it he ran away like I was dead to him. Moving and cleaning up that mess was in my lap and I was heartbroken. The video makes people think it’s about his mother yet it’s his ex girlfriend, he wrote this song after Calling me, it’s meant to be an apology. Personally I was angry, I saw this as a cop out way to leave someone you supposedly loved. The importance of his mom imo is she’s his crutch, the extreme mamas boy who didn’t detach from her, she may or may not have allowed him to live independently from her and his family. A man who doesn’t think for himself, does what others say is best, the man who lets his mom control his adult life and relationships, it happens and they tell her all about your issues that they won’t speak to you about. Avoids conflict to the point plays the disappearing act. These people have needs that are impossible to meet, expectations to be Saved by another person, that’s an inside job. My experience was the worst years of my life because I had no closure and he went to the next woman and he’d cheated and lied until he had a back up, the only thing he said was you couldn’t heal me. People who all but destroy another with this immaturity don’t tend to look inside themselves. They blame then leave you for dead. This song makes me sad and mad at the same time. My thoughts are personal and Justin said this song is about his ex Mamie.
It wasn't just addictions, Justin also struggled with serious mental illness which his mother helped him through. Justin is in a Much better place now. You need to check out their recent song "Home" which is juxtaposed to this one.
I was horribly addicted to soda for years. About a year ago, I started drinking diet soda, then went down to that stevia flavored drink mix, now I just drink water with essence of fruit (squeeze a 🍊 into some water). I've lost 85 lbs since I quit that stuff.
I know you have done some Chris Stapleton. Try his song fire away and video. It is about mental illness but from the person who is trying to help. It's really good. It also reminds me of what my husband would do for me as I fight with anxiety and depression.. Love your videos...👏👏

That's awesome bro!!! that you've been clen. Now put your focus on where you want to be. Don't focus on where you came from otherwise you may end up going back. Keep it up and sorry for your loss.
Saw this on another video of this song: "Just a happy thought for everyone, despite the ending of the video, Justin's mom is quite alive, and plays herself in the video. It's actually here. So yeah, she's good. He's also happily married since 2012 and has a son and daughter. He's moved past his demons, and he's ok. I hope you all do too. Coming from a guy who's channeled around 27 years of depression and difficulty into music. :) Bless you all."
This song is actually an apology to a woman he lived with for a time who he messed up with and broke her heart. It’s actually the same woman “Calling You” is about.
This is one of the most meaningful songs to me. I relate in almost every way. Sober since 11/1/2014
Good for you!!!!!!
Congrats.. I’ve been sober for 6 months..
💜
Congrats. :)
Congratulations! Stay strong
I've been free from a horrible heroin addiction for 19 months! This song hits home!
Congrats!!!! That is awesome good job putting in the hardwork mentally and physically.
Hang in, you've made it this far. Much pride to you for keeping it together. Respect. Still chill and take care.
Congratulations, that's awesome. I myself am a little over 2 years clean.

Try Blue October - Into the Ocean. Very catchy and cool video too.
I second that. My favorite song by them for sure.
There really isn't anything by Blue October that isn't good. Just about every song is awesome. You can feel Justin's pain and love in his music.
Into The Ocean has been my favorite by them since I was a teenager.
I had forgotten about this song until I found your channel and saw your reaction channel to the Fuel song In My Hands.
Please react to Fear by Blue October. Very powerful song about how the lead singer , Justin, deals with depression
Fear is such a good one, and such a progression from their earlier work.
Depression and depressive illness are horrible. Justin actually has bipolar disorder and depression/depressive illness is just part of it.
