a traditional practice of the town folks to honor a birthday celebrator during a “cumpleaño,” a gathering of the members of community to sing, dance and celebrate the honoree’s natal day. The song narrates thanksgiving to the Creator for blessings the celebrator his/her life.
The celebration starts with the “dalit” where the celebrator will be summoned from their house to come in the midst of the people waiting in their backyard. Once seated, one from the crowd would deliver the pasacalle - a series of poetic lines, to praise and give the celebrator well-wishes and prayers while the guitar player accompanies. Once done, the people will start singing the song. When the singing reaches the “Reviva!” part, the flower crown will be then placed at the head of the celebrator while the other folks would shower him/her with flower petals. This will be followed by spirited dancing or “baylihan” by the visitors.
